Patch 1.4 Unoffical Thread #3 With Changelog!

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 3:26 pm

Some Beth people said that some modders have been given the CK early to test it for bugs. Not sure if they want, or can, say anything about it yet.

They can't. We signed an NDA. I have not gotten mine yet, I may not get it. I can't remember my Steam password.........

It's initally going to start as beta through Steam. So I'm expecting few bugs and glitches to say the least.

I must say I love Bethesda's community support! So many other games fail to patch things, if at all despite knowing exactly whats wrong. Look at a game like Battlefield 3 for example.

If the game still crashes after this patch, there's going to be some exceptionally [cencored] off people on this board.

I'm just glad they decide to tell what the patches do, unlike with Fallout 3 where the more excitement came from "will it work at all" than "what's included". I still get nightmares from the 1.5 patch.

Thank you Bethesda for the patch on behalf of everyone else, but the one fix I need still isn't there :(. And I'm not about to collect all 15 daedric artefacts again to get the achievement. (The Taste of death is broken for me).

I couldn't tell if there was any fix for the game performance suffering with big save counts.

With a game like this, it's highly beneficial to save early and often. Yet that also causes the game perfomance to suffer and potentially become unplayable. I had to abandon my Oblivion character after a 400+ hour playthrough due to constant freezing and glitching.

I'd just like to see and do everything that the game has to offer, without needing to play a dozen different characters.

I think the whole community wants to give Beth a big ol' hug for this one.

Judging by lots of posts on the forum, I'd say they want to hug them just to stab them on the back with a poisoned dagger.

They're under NDA... nothing they can share currently.

What is there that we can really discuss? There's the list. That's what's in it. I can either confirm it or deny it, but since it's official I might as well confirm it.

We can all conplain about what should be in it or whatever, but that's kind of a boring thread.

There are a lot of things I wish were in it, but discussing that here isn't going to make them suddenly be added. What I wish for has all been mentioned before and Bethesda has ignored it. Thier practice of letting modders fix their game is going strong, though with the large number of console users now they might want to consider another option that involves them fixing their own game.

To be honest I don't think a single bug fix listed has ever affected me and I've done about 90% of those things. The only issues I had is the broken house in Windhelm and marriage canidates not being available. No mention of those being fixed.

I have not had a bug either. Most bugs are really glitches and loading an earlier save will fix it. However, game conditions can be fragile, for lack of a better word, and can more easily cause a quest to mess up. Most patching is really just making the quest conditions more robust so that weird things don't cause problems.
Okay, feeling rather dumb here. I had thought that bugs and glitches were the same thing. What is the difference between them?

A bug will generally repeat itself every time you do the same action.

Glitches are unrepeatable issues. By that I mean, the 3 issues I have had, I reloaded a save from before I got the quest and the quest worked, even doing the same things. That is a glitch.

Yes, the code could be bugged, or it could be just fine. However, the risk is to fix the glitch, will bugs or other issues be introduced? As bad as bugs sound, that is actually easier for the devs to fix, as they can step through things and see where it breaks, then fix it.

Thanks, in conjunction with the other answers that makes it clear.

I didn't see a thing about marriage options.

Lydia still remains glitched and unable to marry and Muiri still repeats "Thanks for taking care of my...problem".

Glad to see that ash piles are fixed, it's been putting me off from playing a necromancer.

Guess patches will be limited only to bug fixes and optimizations, no balancing huh?

I think all spouses tend to repeat stuff. In addition to Lydia, Grelka is supposed to be a marriage canidate, but her quest will never start so her disposition never raises.

There are no "balance" issues. You don't like some of their design choices, but there's no helping that. Some people like what they've been given, and others don't. Don't expect a patch to cater to that.

Most the balancing problems I've seen have been due to the players choice to break the game.

For example making 100 iron daggers to quickly max out Smithing. No one makes you do this, it's a choice. How's Bethesda going to stop you from doing this?
