Patch, when?

Post » Mon May 28, 2012 5:35 pm

Any confirmation of when a new patch is coming and if it will address the most serious issue of saves over 18mb producing game breaking CTD's. I know beth are working on quest fixes, but tbh this save game issue is far more serious than any quest bug...

Personally i won't touch the game again until a patch has addressed this issue.

Yeah it better come soon or we will see an overload at stores trying to return the game. I am super pissed. When you put 180 hours into a game then you start getting problems like crashing and what not, you get this anger that makes you want to punch someone in the face for ripping you off and stealing your time for nothing.

I think game should have been released 12-12-12, because the engine needs more polishing and pc testing.
Btw, what is he main difference between this engine and Oblivion engine ? Oblivion engine is much more stable.
I'm playing on Single core Cpu.

Also, I would like they would skip this Jan update if CTD would apper, so they will have more time to overhaul engine.

Never get a CTD anywhere outside bonechill passage.

The biggest problen is not CTD or fps (yeah it runs very smooth on my pc). It is freakin broken quests. It;s when you playing and get stuck with some heavy items in inventory, or when you cleared dungeon before speaking with npc and cannot finish quest. And with later patches it also broken game rules like reisists(fxd) and fortify potions. Destruction was broken from very beginning and not fixed yet.

Does Bonechill still crash with 1.3.10? Load http://www.mediafire.com/?lpjny75fff85q9q to get through Bonechill Passage w/o a crash if so. It just disables a few MSTT REFRs.

This simply is not true. Broken quests are easily fixable with a console command. Quest items (which dont weight anything anyway) can also be removed with a simple console command. CTD's related to save file size occuring so often that they make the game unplayable are not fixable at all. Hundreds of hours invested in a character to be taken away by sloppy game code is surely a priority fix....

There's already a mod to make weapons stay in the corpses to reduce save game file size. Just need a mod to make ash piles disappear, maybe remove some useless clutter...

Not if you're on the PS3 or 360, which are a 70-80% market share last I saw.

Using console is slightly weakens interest of game. And not anything can be fixed that way. Some cases when npcs become hostile for example.

As I said CTD is not an big issue. Even bonechill passage was passable in 1.1 (and now it is fixed).

Also I realy doubt that CTD related to save file size. In theory save file may be as big as master file or even bigger. Those CTD which follows after certain actions is linked directly to broken scripts. So it is not some engine issue but broken quest/script or something. It is like crash near megaton in fallout 3 which unavoidable if something (I do not exacly remember to which quests that was related) is done some special way.

Addition about save game size. It is not size that causing problems, it is number of conflicting errors in scripts and quests. So number of ash piles or kicked away things in houses are not important.

You don't know that for sure.. you're speculating. Please explain why the save file CTD's for the vast majority of people are at 18mb. We all suddenly messed up the same amount of scripts in the game when our saves reached 18mb? Sorry but you know as little as the rest of us as to what's causing this issue.

Sometimes the console makes things worse!

Spoiler
The MQ bugged out for me during the infiltration of the Thalmor party.  Ok, no problem, unlocked a few doors, set a few stages, bam, not a problem.  Except, all those NPCs which were also attending the party are now stuck with those "Sure, I can cause a scene for you" dialog options even though they are back in their respctive places.  Not a problem for, say, Maven Blackbriar, because I'm not doing any of the TG quests on this character, but a few of the other Jarls, most notably Balgruf, have caused a problem with the MQ.

I never had CTD problems either, until they started. and the game became virtually unplayable.
There is a large (and apparently growing) number of players who, when approaching the 18-20 mb save file size mark start to encounter areas, upon trying to transition into, constantly CTD.
It may be coincidence, but there it is.

I'm in no rush to go back to Skyrim. I hope they push out a polished and well tested patch along with the creation kit. Bethesda announced a big quest patch and the creation kit for January, but the patch will probably be released first, as there isn't any point in releasing a construction kit for the build of a game that is about to be updated.

While I haven't had any crashes, the sheer number of issues with buggy quests was getting frustrating. "Wacky" bugs like Louis Letrush multiplying are a lot of fun, but having to pacify entire cities that aggro on me for no reason and googling quest chains to figure out where to teleport npcs or start quests that don't work sort of ruined the experience. I was also unlucky to be hit by the refresh rate issue that makes 1st person view stutter constantly and a lot of "sticky" weather effects. As it is, I'll keep checking the forums every couple of days until I see a significant patch has been released and isn't particularly broken.

Btw, what is he main difference between this engine and Oblivion engine ? Oblivion engine is much more stable.
I'm playing on Single core Cpu.

The main difference is that Skyrim was made for a newer generation of hardware and was probably never tested on an old single core. You are lucky that you can run it at all.

Just for your information: Being anything less than appreciative and grateful towards Kivan is not to be recommended. He is behind all the unofficial patch mods to Oblivion, and is currently working hard to supply Bethesda with Skyrim bug reports.

True that! One thing though: Where is the official info about "a big quest patch?" In other words, Where did you find this & What is this patch supposed to address?

Thanks!
