People need to stop using incorrect terminoogy

Post » Wed Jun 20, 2012 9:46 am

Sorry for the mis-spelling in the topic title....terminoogy should be spelled Terminology..

Anyway

If the editor for Skyim has not been released by Bethesda then people need to stop saying the game was modded.

The correct term is edited.

People do not have the capbability to actually MOD the game yet because Bethesda has not released the tools in order to do so.

It's really annoying for people to use incorrect terminology so please stop

They are commonly referred to as "mods" and will most likely continued to be called that.. Sorry, but it is true.

mod

To modify

Which means ANYTHING on their game that is modified is modded

I have modified my Ini files since I got Skyrim before I even started it to increase view distances. I have modded my game. You do not need tools to modify the game as I have modded BF3 as well using a FXAA injector and color correction.

Yeah, they're still mods. They're not .esm files, but they do modify the original game.

(...)

Mod is short of modification, so as long as the downloaded file modifies a game it can be refered as a mod. Don't embarrass yourself.

Ninja'd be several other people.

Umm no you're all wrong because the only thing that can be done at this point is to take already existing files and edit them...editing a game is not modding it.

There is a huge difference between MODDING something and editing current filles.

The tools for modding the game have not been released and until they are there are no mods for this game there are only edits and tweeks.

This is the problem with people on the net...People find a general concensous and tryto say it's right...A general concensous doesn't mean anything.

This is why that 3/4 of the so called reported bugs/gltches in the game are not bugs/glitches at all...I posted another topic (Link Below) explaining that when people don't like how something is programmed or it doesn't work the way they want or think, they are too damn quick to cry bug/glitch or it's broken instead of stepping back and ooking at what they did that caused it. As I said read the topic and you wil see what I'm talking about.

again as I said comments like this are incorrect

NO all that does is EDIT the original game

I'm starting to question how many people on this forum and others have actually gone to school and started taking majortity rules over the reality on what something is.. It's realy sad how the internet alows people to get this misinformed and corrupted and then people defend and condone this type of misinformation

It rarely fails. If person A attempts to correct person B, person A is likely to make a mistake than is equal to or greater than the mistake he is attempting to correct.

You're an idiot.

"Mod" is short for "Modification". "Modification' is defined as making ANY change to the subject matter.
It could be a quest, a house, a tweak, it really does not matter. its STILL a mod.
That means that even the slightest of changes to the original game is a Mod. It does not matter one bit what tool is used to do it. The end result is a mod.
All the editor does is make it easier, it does not define.

People have created mods that add NEW content to the game, not just edit it... How, they use/create their own tools. You don't need Bethesda's tools to create a mod (once again MODIFICATION), it just makes it easier to mod certain things with the CK.

At this point I truly believe OP just made your account to troll.

Or is really just clueless and new to PC gaming, Modding a game does require the tools from the developer to do so. They do help and expand what you can mod but they are not required INI files for example can be changed and if anything is changed that is not what the developer intended they are indeed modified aka Modded resulting in modding the game.

Edit- To Change

Mod short for Modify - Modify - To Change.

You have all of 4 posts under your belt and instead of introducing yourself or throwing your lot into a constructive thread you already try telling people Is and Is nots?

I SAY GOOD DAY SIR.

:lmao:

But on a serious note, no I don't understand why you felt compelled to do such a thing ;p

Did anyone else laugh out loud at "terminoogy?" Just say it outloud. Terminoogy. Best word ever.

Oh, but yeah, modding Skyrim is the same as editing the game. But you're just arguing semantics. Everyone knows what it means.

LOLZORZ

Don't take my word for it. I'm no English Scholar. Take Google's word instead:

From define:edit

Verb - Prepare (written material) for publication by correcting, condensing, or otherwise modifying it.

You may have noticed that the term actually refers to http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/edit, and Skyrim is a digital material, which makes your accusations of wrong terminology even worse.

Now, as for define:modify

Verb - Make partial or minor changes to (something), typically so as to improve it or to make it less extreme.

There you have it

If I remove the air box from my car and replace it with a cone filter, I've modified my car. Did I need tools from the manufacturer to do it? No.

'nough said.

Lets not forget here that people are already using modding tools outwith the dev kit, and have been for years with Betheda games. Wyrebrash, nifskope, milkshape etc etc. OP is extremely misguided and incorrrect.

So, mods created with an editor are called mods, but mods created without an editor are called... edits?

Normally, you use an editor to edit, but perhaps that's just me.

Also, check out my post above about define:edit

Sorry you're wrong because you think Changing the skin on a sword and then editing the stats in a file IS modding or adding a new weapon to the game. When in fact it's nothing new

You see a picture of something and then think it's new content when in fact what you fail to understand is that all someone has done is taken current existing coding the game accepts and changed the skin and stats so IT APPEARS as something new. When in fact it's nothing more than something that already exists in the game.

FYI to all of you smart asses who have no clue to what the hell you're talking about and trying to act smart..This is the actual process for modding...
True and actual modding requires access to the games programming code WHICH NOT ONE PERSON HAS and will not have until Bethesda releases the tools to do so.

Modding requires the games progamming code to be programed/reprogram with non-existent code, so that it accepts coding that is not actualy in the game. After that coding has been made you then have to create something out of the new added code and then texture and mesh it with it's own coding NOT SOMETHING ALREADY IN THE GAME, you then need to programming (Said item) to be implimented into the game.

THAT IS WHAT THE MODDING TOOL THAT BETHESDA HAS NOT RELEASED YET DOES..

So when any one of you jack asses can show me one thing on Skyrim nexus that you idiots here are calling mods that has been done with I'l shut up...Until then all of you please just Please continue, my good sir. and learn.. Go take programming and learn the difference btween an adit and an actual mod.

OP Point:
-Creating a new file int the game is to EDIT the game
-To EDIT a file is to MOD or Modify a file.
My Point:
-To EDIT the game is to MOD the game. It's not necessarily implying that you're modifying the created files within the game.

Am I overlooking something?
