People who play as female characters.

I'm a guy and I usually play as a female character because the hair styles usually look better, it's also a video game so I really don't give a [censored] most of the time.

On Demon's souls and Dark Souls I roll female characters. For demon's souls it was just because I couldn't get a male face to look right. For Dark Souls, it had become a habit since then. Most other games I simply roll male characters, as their easier to role-play, though in Dragon Age 2 I rolled a female hawke, for reasons which are not entirely apparent to me.

I typically play females and males

Not all character archetypes match male characters as well as a female would and it's less restrictive to be able to play as both males and females.

I tend to play female though, simply because I can relate to it easier, if a game captures my imagination and I get into it. :)

It's not difficult to relate to the opposite six, at least not for me anyway, so either six appeals to me when choosing a character. Being able to relate with a character doesn't really have so much to do with their gender so much as their actions and what they stand for.

The only exception to this rule is when playing MMO's only in the sense that it cuts down on confusion and awkward situations.

I have a couple of reasons.

1) because I could.
2) because I wondered what it would be like.
3) I get to watch the back of a girl run around (in a 3rd person game) which is cooler than watching a dude. ;)
4) I get to dress a chick the way I want her to dress!
5) roleplay...do I react differently?

I was gonna play a dude in skyrim but I may chick out. in the end, it is not a big difference....in some games it changes dialogue (like F NV)

Male characters are boring to me. Boring hairstyles, boring clothing, boring faces.

I would identify as gender-neutral myself, though physically I'm male. When I play characters, I'd say about 3/4 end up being female; perhaps it's a way of "evening it out"?

In any case, I just feel more compelled to play female characters than male characters (Not to mention my male characters always end up looking like my dad  ). Can't really explain why, it just is.

I (almost) always play as a female character where that's an option because it's like I'm "dressing up" as that character when I play a game. It's like putting on protective gear to play paintball - yes, I'm "in character", but I'm inhabiting that role like a costume.

As others have I said, I like to play female on occasion because they're easier on the eyes. But also, my wife enjoys watching me play and a female character helps her get into it more. On Free Realms (PS3), I play as a female pixie with her name. She'll tell me what she wants to do and I'll handle the controls. It's a fun way to spend time together. And she calls Playstation Home her dollhouse because I dress her up and run around while she watches, then we laugh at all the guys hitting on her.

I generally only play as a female character to simply see the difference with how items like armors differ from a male character. Other than that, it's just for fun really though that's rare. Never finished a game as a female character though.

I've gotta be honest here...In MMO's, whenever I roll a healer, it's a female. It's sixist and I know it is, but I've been convinced for years that certain females posses very real supernatural healing powers. That 'Awwwww!' that they do that's super cute can make any pain disappear. I guess there's exceptions, but it's my twisted reality...

Generally in single player RPGs, my male characters are mages (named Elmic) and warriors (named Jerhicco) while my females are archers (named Alex). This stems from WoW with my girlfriend.

I don't roleplay, so for the most part my attitude towards a character doesn't change regardless of gender. However, I do find myself liking female/slightly effeminate male characters more these days as I really don't care for a lot of the industry's beefy manly men characters.

Whatever, just make the characters not svck and I don't care what gender they are.

"People who play as female characters"? So women playing female characters are weird too? :teehee:

For me it's mainly a question aesthetics (including clothing and armor mods), the unconventionality of a "heroine that saves all", and not playing "as" the character.

Well, unless we don't have the choice, I usually play as a male, but I tried playing a female in Mass Effect once. Don't ask why. :whistling:

Look, Garrus can be very charming and I'm pretty sure we've all made FemSheps to romance that sixy bastard. You don't have to be embarrassed.

I have a hard time (no pun intended) playing female characters. I lose interest. The only game I've managed to play a female character for any real amount of time was Diablo 2 with the Assassin character.

Actually, no. My female shepards haven't romanced anyone in ME2. And only Liara in ME1. Obviously :hubbahubba:

I play as male when the mood strikes me, it's just a different perspective.

I have never played a full playthrough as a male. Not sure why but about 95% of the time I play as female and the few times I've tried as male I lose interest. I think it's a lot to do with what Stomper and Leyenne said - I'm sort of channeling myself through the character so playing as a guy wouldn't feel as 'realistic'. Its probably for the same reason that I find it difficult to play a 'nasty' character or a renegade in ME. I just don't like being horrible to people - even fictional characters. ;)

God I'm such a loser. Haha.

To those males who roll a female character - please explain why.

Because my character is not me. They aren't based on me, I don't make them look like me, and they don't usually act like me.

When I play a female character I like to think of it like I'm some sort of guiding spirit to the character, or that I'm reading a book, instead of actually living out what's going on. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/0d/Mulan_Screenshot.jpg. Kind of.

In Guild Wars my first character was a male ranger named Miklos Solkim. Years later when I picked up the game again he was long gone, so I made this whole little backstory where he had a family and all of my new characters were his daughters, the Solkim sisters.

I didn't play a FemShep in Mass Effect though. Couldn't pass up the absolutely http://segmentedreality.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/1263856214400.jpg the default male Shep made. It was like being guiding spirit to a mentally handicapped super soldier.

Sometimes just because it's more aesthetically pleasing.
All the male clothes to me in Fallout 3 look like simple bland re-textures or lacking in detail compared to the outfits for female characters.

Black Widow perk is hilarious IMO.

No other reason.
