One of my characters in Oblivion was female, because i let my sisters make a character, so maybe it's the same for those people.

I don't get why you do it. Do you wish you were a woman or are you just a horny? I really don't get it...

It's just a different way to experience the game. I play females partly because (and this has been my experience from many games) armor simply looks better/more detailed on them.

Yes.

This question is just as tiring as the "which race is best" polls. I play as characters that pop in my head. Some are male, some are female, some are human, some aren't. Because you struggle wrapping your mind around what role playing is, doesn't mean other people do.

The Elder Scrolls games are role-playing games. Most of the point of RPGs is to play a character who's not like you - to play a role. I'm a guy every single day of my life, why wouldn't I want to play a female character in a game?

And logically, you could make the same argument about playing an elf, or one of the beast races. I've played both male and female characters over the years in dozens of games, as well as all kinds of things that weren't human. It's not that big of a deal.

Also, the way you put it, OP, it's like you're assuming only guys play these games. That's incredibly far from the truth.

My man character is a representation of me. My female character is the polar opposite. In gender, race, morality, skills, etc.

EDIT: Also, you may want to edit your topic. You seem like a [censored]. I say that not to start a fight or to make you angry, but because I'm partially afraid that everyone else will think the same way and we'll see a never ending list of people debating and fighting. That, and this does seem like a troll topic...

Because some people are not insecure adolescent boys (or Freudian psychologists), who believe copulation is ultimately the reason behind every universal concept.

Seems like a kinda instigatory topic, but meh, I'll bite. Originally it was due to name constraints. I've got one character name that I used to use as my online name a lot, but it never would fit within the character limit when I went to name my character. Rather than butcher that name ridiculously, I just went with another name that I rather liked, but just so happened to be female. After a while, it just got to be a habit, even after the name character limit expanded enough to include my original character name. Now generally I switch back and forth between the two names at whim, or sometimes depending upon which gender has the better armor options.

yeah i play both. If i feel like a female orc is the most likely hero to save tamriel well then hell, I'ma do it with a femorc. but if i meet an argonian assassin in my travels, he might inspire me to play through the dark brotherhood as a male argonian. OP needs to put a sock in it. IMO

Why do you need an explanation? Is the fact that it's a video game not obvious enough?

I don't get off on animated characters, don't wear women's clothes, don't want to be a woman, and am a perfectly normal father of three. Why do I almost always play women? Maybe precisely because I am a man in real life, and playing myself, or anyone similar to me in any way, in a fantasy game set in a dangerous, magical world that only resembles ours in superficial ways, would feel a bit bizarre.
You are 'roleplaying as yourself', you are surprised in a damp dark dungeon by an ancient, palpably evil wraith. Do you :
A. Attack it with a sword, just like you would in real life.
B. Destroy it with fire magic, just like you would in real life.
C. Wet yourself, run screaming, and wish you had never left the comfort of your mother's bosom, just like you would in real life.

Its Different playing the game though a female perspective.
I usually play a mage or archer type character...... So long as its a play-style that avoids as much damage as possible/

I'm sure you've got the cause and effect reversed on that. The mods exist due to the prevalence of people playing as a female. It seems to me that people, male or female, who play as a female character are generally more concerned with their character's appearance than those who play as male characters; either that, or people who play as male characters are generally more content with what the vanilla game has to offer.

I used to exclusively play as a male character (I am a male btw), but I started noticing my girlfriend always made her characters guys in video games
when I asked her why she said " because if ima put countless hours into playing a character, then I want that character to look good.so, following her advice I sometimes pick female characters. it pays off in the third-person tames, so you're not staring at a same-six butt all the time.

I don't have an issue playing either gender in games that allow it, for me it's not about being "me" in the game but enjoying being someone else for a change.

Hi - your thread was moved to CD, because although this question comes up periodically, it's not specific to TES games. Welcome to the forums, sorry if your thread got a little disrupted.

I am a female and I usually play a female character, if I have a choice. But if a game is just a male character - like, say, The Witcher, I don't mind. And sometimes I roll a male character - like in the Mass Effect games, in WoW and Rift and so on. I tend to play female though, simply because I can relate to it easier, if a game captures my imagination and I get into it. :)

This topic has been brought up many times already AND this thread belongs in the TES series dicussion forum.

Really? Because no other games besides TES give characters a choice of gender? If you weren't interested in actually answering the question, then you needn't have replied.

Why do you answer a question with two questions? Why do you complain about the forums being all "teh svck" in other threads and then charge in on a perfectly normal thread to make sure a newer member feels unwelcome?

I can't believe people are actually responding honestly to such obvious troll bait.

I can't believe our members are so frequently calling troll without taking the time to either actually determine that fact, or reporting the thread. :stare: It's an ugly little habit we are seeing more and more often and we have started warning for it when it's an obvious attempt to just shut someone down. In the future if you feel a person is trolling, report the post or thread and let the moderators deal with it. I

If you want an answer to the latter feel free to PM me as this would be going off-topic. :)

As for the question pertaining to my answer, that's why they call it rhetorical -- it answered itself.

I actually imagine my character is as bad ass as Leydenne when I'm playing RPGs.
