They are doing it to get attention to focus on the real issue of those animals getting skinned alive, which is an abhorrent practice that absolutely should be condemned.

I don't always agree with PETA, and sometimes they are pretty loony, but I definitely see what they are doing here. It's not attacking Nintendo so much as getting people to say "Did you hear PETA is after Nintendo now? This is so dumb!" and then follow the link and read about what's actually happening in the real world.

It really is disturbing how many people there are that don't grasp the fact that an animal feeling pain is every bit as real as any human. It's still a conscious being subjected to horrible torture, and when it comes to something like that being human or other animal doesn't matter, the pain is just as real and being disgusted by such things being done to humans while shrugging off when it's done to other animals fails the very basics of logic.

Racoons are pests, they are everywhere and cause alot of damage. They also spread disease. I know alot of people that just shoot them.

I am against sick people that torcher animals for some sick pleasure. First sign of a psychopath is the killing of small animals like cats for fun.

But people really need to get over the idea that meat/fur is murder. The animals are killed quicky and as humanly as possible. People also need to understand that humans have already screwed up the animal kingdom. We removed pretty much all the apex predators, which means without some kind of regulation (hunting) other animal populations like Racoons will explode and cause even more damage to the ecosystem. Hunting is a very well government regulated sport and in Canada and the United States, most money for protection of wetlands and forests and the wild life in them comes from anglers and hunters! Most wetlands we have around today are thanks to duck hunters.

Banning of Seal fur has put alot of people out of work, people that really depend on the seal hunt.

They are liers and hypocrites.. and really who gives a crap what Pamela Anderson has to say?

So PETA can go cram it with walnuts :meh:

Mario gets the flying ability from the skin of a Tanuki right? So what ability would he get if he skinned everyone at PETA? <_<

Come on, you were all thinking it! :P

PETA is a terrorist organization, petty attention [censored]s who like to scream and punch but not do anything that actually helps. I'm also not a fan of the rumors of PETA euthanising pets in the thousands.
PETA engages in some of the sloppiest, cheapest marketing gimmicks to promote its goals, most notably the famous use of scantly clad women. Also, luring American celebrities who most definitely do not live eco-effectively is against all reason. Attention [censored] with no rational goal, simple as that
PETA, while allegedly protects animal rights, does very little to fight the real threats - climate change and deforestation - and their activities promote the aforementioned crises.

When I think of PETA, I think of some high school girl from a rich family, has a pet hamster but it's okay because it's mine, gets taken to school by daddy in family's big SUV, then eats vegetables at the diner because it makes her look so modern. Animals are cute hurrr who cares that insects are dying in millions, they're acky.

I myself promote World Wide Fund for Nature. It's much more sane in its activities, takes attention to the real problems, and actually does something else than troll and just being a bunch of attention [censored]s.

/rant, I guess.

And don't let me get started about ALF.

EDIT: P.S. I strongly oppose any maltreatment of animals and any human involvement except as protection, as a food source and as pets if the species is not suitable for nature, but terrorism and hypocrisy are not going to solve our problems.

I know, but all these weird attempts to get attention make them look so ridiculous that I can't take them seriously at all, which isn't going to help make me care more about the issue of animal cruelty and such.

PETA's Logic:
Tanooki =/= Tanuki
A raccoon dog is the same as a magical shape shifting animal?

Also "Super Tofu Boy"?! Really!?
But yes, Clubby the Seal was a great game.

So.., we have, in exact wording:

*Mario wearing a fur coat*

So what? A paisan can't dress like a p.i.m.p. these days??

A goomba from Jersey can't get his bling on?!

wtf people???

Is wool bad because we are humiliating the sheep by leaving it naked infront of its friends after sheering it :o

So they do, I was foolish enough to give this website a hit.
Looked at the thing about wool, it is incredibly useful for clothes, blankets and other stuff that benefit humans, but those people just seem to focus on the negative part of it some process called "mulesing" instead of looking at how it also benefits the sheep. If sheep weren't sheered they would grow too much wool causing all sorts of problems like dehydration, suffocation and an inability to walk. So its pretty counter productive to be againist all wool instead of a process that some places use. Fools.

How is the life of a vegitarian healthier than that of a meat eater.....

Next time i'm going record a video of me going to go hunt a rabbit and shoot it, then play a video of me dancing around in a easter bunny hobbit with the name 'Bunny-lo Bill' and say "The furs soooo soooooft...!" and post the video on youtube and see what PETA does.

Irrelevant, they use Mario in an insulting manner. It might not seem so to you, but the way it appears even at the core is 'Mario wears a racoon suit > Mario MUST have skinner a racoon > Clearly Nintendo supports Nazis, Animal Abuse, Baby stomping, and killing elderly people'. Is pretty much PETA's mindset. Even IF this is just a joke, if this gets out on a broader scale, this could be potentially damaging to Nintendo's image.

http://features.peta.org/mario-kills-tanooki/

I was thinking of something witty to say, but... really?

I'm lost for words.

Does the tanook get to wear a mario fur?

As for PETA, I'm an equal opportunity organism ingestor. Whether an animal or a plant is killed to provide me with sustenance, it is still being killed. It is a fact I, as an apex member of the food chain, have come to terms with. I fail to see how plants should be valued less than animals, when they contribute immensely to the well being of humans. FFS.

And how they provide the oxygen we breathe and fundamentally need, should push that into their light and see them implode :P

But hasn't remaking the same set of games over and over again with little to add except 3d hurt enough?

Something about the plants either having a seriously high pain tolerance, or that they're unable to scream while being tortured..

It's obviously a rigged popularity contest at best <_<

I actually heard that there was tests in the past to test if plants have feelings.

sure, but when did you last here anyone making a case for it.

I've slashed through some serious green, leaving utterly crippled plants in my wake.. meh.

not.a.peep.out.of.them

I mean, if you cut me, not only do I bleed in the proper color, you'll actually get a reaction out of me

As long as plants are playing it silent, tough cookies for them.
