PETA's next target?

I was thinking of something witty to say, but... really?

I'm lost for words.

I was going to say "Don't they know it's not an actual suit made from fur, but a costume?" then I instantly realized the answer is an easy no.

-Shrugs- I'd be more annoyed they're offended, but at this point, PETA is like Al Gore in the Manbearpig episode of South Park, mentally [censored] and seeking attention from people. It's no real secret PETA does and attacks ANYTHING they think is 'big' or 'popular' because it shines the spotlight on them for 5 minutes of fame they don't get normally.

PETA needs to defend the rights of mushrooms, then they'd have an argument.

I didn't even assosciate it with fur when I played it. PETA is just grasping at straws with that one.

Reminds me of a recent article where PETA bemoaned the fact that you could kill rats in Battlefield 3. They're being a bit hypocritical here: after all, they whined about being able to kill dogs in the original Wolfenstein 3D, to the point where some people (such as Nintendo and Apple) handling their own ports had the dogs switched for rats... And PETA was somehow satisfied there. Yet they aren't any more?

Ah well, at least I'll always belong to the BETTER P.E.T.A: People Eating Tasty Animals. :D

PETA does that with just about everything these days. I wonder if they'll ever realize that people might actually start to take them seriously if they'd just pick their battles.

It wasn't as good as Clubby the Seal. :P (not linked as I question the permissibility of doing so on this forum given its content)

Either this game is teaching about the horrific clubbing of baby seals to death or it's about a smooth seal who loves to party the nights away at the clubs.

Ugh. Things like this frustrate me. It's activists like PETA that make it difficult for vegetarians and animal rights activists to be taken seriously, we all get tarred with the same brush. PETA are going too far and they're now working against themselves by just becoming an object of ridicule. They need to look at threads like this to see just what their 'campaigns' are actually achieving.

As for their issue with people killing rats, I've been burning elk to death in Skyrim, shooting foxes with arrows, electrocuting mudcrabs...I'm a vegetarian, shop cruelty-free, I don't engage in any animal abuse, I love animals. Their arguments are just ridiculous.

And yet no mention of Mario's actual animal abuse. How many thousands of turtles has he stomped into oblivion? Turtles not cute enough for you, PETA?

Also, how do they not have lawsuits flying out their ears for this and the other games down there.

Sad thing is, people like you are in the minority. I will admit, subtle people like you don't come to mind because you act like a sane human being. PETA people do the most bizzare pants on head insane things to seek attention. Ultimately, when an average person meets someone who's a vegetarian and doesnt support animal abuse you'll likely hear people think ' 'Oh god if this dude/chick goes on a protest X because its cruel' tirade, I'm killing myself.'

The problem is that the idiot with the microphone is more often seen as the voice and face of a cause than the calm, collected, and well spoken debatist.

Only mammals have rights, everyone knows that.

Because technically they aren't doing anything wrong. In US copyright law at least, these games would probably be considered "educational" (using the term very loosely here), or "parody", both of which I believe qualify as fair use. I'm not entirely sure how it is in the rest of the world.

Ah that is nothing look at the earth liberation front. Still kinda sad though....

May not be the Earth part but they do give money to the Animal Liberation Front and support firebombers.

PETA is, to me, a lot like most interest groups and pundits where they get their attention spewing as much vitriol and creating these types of attention-getting caricatures/hyperbole. If they weren't always (hypocritically) outraged at how people treat animals, even pixel animals, they'd never have the money to survive. People, even non-supporters, give them the attention they want so it helps them thrive.

Personally, I don't give a [censored] about PETA. I'll happily enjoy and let my daughter enjoy every fur wearing Mario suit Nintendo can come up with.

You'd think they would have more of a problem with games like WoW or Skyrim, where you actually do skin animals. No, they just pick the most ridiculous things to complain about because controversy = more attention.

I don't know much about PETA, but do they actually do anything constructive in their fight against animal cruelty?

Not really. As has already been stated, they're the main reason many people consider things like animal rights and vegetarianism to be a joke, because idiots like PETA are the extremely vocal minority.

My response to PETA ===> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6w3AVSNzxT4

Nothing but a bunch of hypocrites. They spend millions every year euthanizing animals rather then take the time to find them homes.

One of their Presidents is a diabetic.. Gee I wonder where insulin comes from and how it was discovered

Making video on it now *evil*

Seriously though. How does PETA expect anyone to take them seriously when they do crap like this? Ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous. This is something I would expect to see as a joke in a cartoon, not... this.

What's next?

"In the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, players are being told that it is OK to butcher Komodo Dragons!"

Wonder if they had anything to say about Red Dead Redemption, or Overlord 2 (with the baby seals).
