1. Cats do serve a practical purpose. They keep vermin under control. One of the causes of the Black Plague was cats being killed off and letting flea-bearing rats run wild.

Actually the black plague happened so badly because cats ate the bad rats then went and cuddled with people.

No. Rats spread the disease then the church got the absolutely BRILLIANT idea that cats where responsible and burned them en mass and suddenly the plague victims spiked 65% (Totally made up number) That is what happened in London and plenty of other towns. With cat population virtually annihilated, the rats carrying the infected fleas thrived.
