Playing on the pc while getting the console feel

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 5:17 pm

Why people WANT to play a first-person game with an anolog stick controller is beyond me.

You can always tell when a gameplay video features someone playing it with controller: Imprecise movement, inaccurate tracking. It's painful to even watch.

Basically this. I once tried with a PS3 (Killzone 2), and I didn't lasted even 5 minutes.

Keyboard + mouse for me, thanks. Been using it since Quake 1, and I have no plans of changing it.

Hmm, so far from what I've seen the interface looks easier to control with mouse/keyboard... I just think I'd rather move a cursor over to an inventory category/item in the list than hold down a thumbstick/dpad to get to the item

Basically this. I once tried with a PS3 (Killzone 2), and I didn't lasted even 5 minutes.

Not really a fair example, because Killzone 2 has a horrible aim acceleration issue that the devs wouldn't fix because they said it makes it feel more "realistic" or something. Still, even on FPP games with good thumbstick controls I'd personally rather use a mouse.

its Game for Windows just as Fallout 3 was and New vegas for a game to be named GFW needs to have 360 support built in the game. http://wiimedia.ign.com/wii/image/object/093/093395/Elder-Scrolls-V-Skyrim_PC_BOX-tempboxart_160w.jpg

GFW just means it's for the windows OS there's no gamepad requirement to have a game run on windows that would be ridiculous.
You're thinking of GFWL I believe and even then I'm not sure there is a gamepad support requirement.

But anyway gamepad support is confirmed so that is neither here no there I suppose.

Sure. I primarily play with a 360 controller hooked up to my PC (personal preference). Because of this, I fixed it so that certain keyboard keys are still operational even while the controller's in. Things like bringing up the console and quicksaving/loading. You no longer have to unplug your controller to get at those.

Because, man, that bugged the hell out of me during Fallout. :P

This is awesome news. I too hated having to disable the controller just so I could access the console.

But yeah, if you use the MotioninJoy drivers to make the PS3 controller emulate a 360 controller, then the PS3 controller should work flawlessly in Skyrim.

Pretty sure every GFWL title has 360 controller support. Either way, it's been confirmed that Skyrim will have support for 360 controllers, which means you can use PS3 controllers with motioninjoy, and pretty much any other gamepad with 360 controller emulation programs.

no GFW http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee417691(v=vs.85).aspx

Considering Crysis is GFW and PC exclusive its kinda self explanatory

Live is a network GFW just requires the game to support 360 controller

"Games for Windows" just replaced this symbol: http://www.gmkfreelogos.com/logos/P/img/PC_DVD-ROM.gif

Games that support gamepad controllers must support the Xbox 360 Controller for Windows

This requirement does not apply to games that use only the mouse and/or the keyboard.

It doesn't say that it has to support controllers at all just that if it does they must support the 360 one.

But again gamepad support confirmed so yeah completely pointless point lol

Then please find one game with GFW that does NOT support a 360 controller.. because this

1.1 Games Explorer Integration
1.2 Support Family Safety / Parental Controls
1.3 Support Rich Saved Games
1.4 Support the Xbox 360 Common Controller for Windows
1.5 Support Multiple Aspect Ratios and Resolutions
1.6 Support Launch from Windows Media Center
1.7 Direct3D Support
1.8 Enable High-DPI-Aware

says otherwise.

Moved topic to Community Discussion, as it is not Skyrim-specific.

Also, please keep in mind, discussion of PS emulators is not permitted.

I wish we still had that instead of that ugly GFW bar that stretches all across the top of the case. Way to ruin good cover art.

Some games still use the old symbol. So it only causes confusion.

If you actually read into that it says otherwise you also left out the [conditional requirement] part of which the conditions are:
This requirement does not apply to games that use only the mouse and/or the keyboard.

Games that support gamepad controllers must support the Xbox 360 Controller for Windows

Which means, "if it supports a gamepad at all it must work with the xbox 360 one or not have support at all" not "must support gamepads"

Still a requirement the only genere that a 360 controller will not work with is a MMORgps or a RTS/TTS you have yet to do what I asked and post any game that does not ahve 360 controller support that has Game for Windows on box.

Like I said, Hellgate: London. For a game that isn't a similar genre to the one you posted, Call of Duty: World at War. At least until a certain patch came out, and even then you needed to enable the 360 controller with a console command. And yet cod:waw is in fact a GFW game, and was a GFW when it was released with no 360 controller support.

What the... it. isn't. a. requirement.
I'm not looking up games for you because I just read their requirements that state otherwise so I don't have to. It's laughable you pointed me to the evidence that contradicts what you keep repeating and yet even quoted directly from their requirements you refuse to believe.
I'm not arguing this, it's completely ridiculous. Intelligence fail.

Yeah, to get the console feel all you have to do is download a bunch of adware. Make sure your gaming PC is riddled with ads for stuff just like Xbox Live / PSN.

Anyway, Xbox controllers work on PC, and PS3 controllers also work (unofficially). Remember, gotta plaster ads all over your PC.

Also, PCs work with HDTVs! DVI (white, big output on PC) is compatible with HDMI, just need a cable for it.

http://www.motioninjoy.com/download

If you have a bluetooth adapter you can even use a standard dualshock 3 wirelessly.

The only thing you might miss out on is the inevitable mods that will add new hotkeys for new functions (like the sprint, bullet time, shield bash, other combat moves, etc mods for oblivion/FO3).

installed, it worked on pcx2, but when i tried on fallout 3 i had no luck...

Try setting it to "Xbox 360 Controller Emulator", FO3 should recognize it as a 360 controller plugged in. Sometimes when I turn on 360 controller emulation I have to click the "Enable" button below it, and my computer makes a sound like a device has been disconnected (high beep low beep). Then go into the Game Controller Panel and make sure it's all working.

If things are still being wonky, go to the ps3 controller icon in the bottom right of your task bar, right click and click on "Exit". Then re-open DS3 tool, select "Xbox 360 Controller Emulator", and press Enable. Should be all good after that.

I've had PCs connected to my entertainment center in my living room for multimedia and games for about 10 years. Lately I've been using wireless 360 controllers for gaming on it, USB-UIRT and a Harmony remote to control all of my multimedia software (the Harmony makes it so easy a toddler could figure it out), and a wireless keyboard with a built-in trackball for everything else. Probably the best thing I've ever done to my living room. :)

Does that IR reciever cause the tilde key to stop working in games? The IR receiver built into my laptop makes it so you can't open the console in games, unless you disable it in the device manager.
