Playing on the pc while getting the console feel

Does that IR reciever cause the tilde key to stop working in games? The IR receiver built into my laptop makes it so you can't open the console in games, unless you disable it in the device manager.

Nope, all of the keys on the keyboard work fine. Is there software installed on the laptop to make the IR receiver work that could be intercepting the keystroke? I used to use a Streamzap IR receiver and that one didn't cause any problems either.

I wish we still had that instead of that ugly GFW bar that stretches all across the top of the case. Way to ruin good cover art.

I know,

I don't know much about this as I don't like playing with controlers (unless it's a driving game or something) I have seen my brother play New Vegas
and Saints Row 2 with a controller. I don't think GFW has to mean that it supports a controler, but I thing all GFWL-games do.

The only software installed for it is the driver. http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1260082 with IR receivers, and I think it has to do with how it's implemented by microsoft in the OS.

I don't think it's the OS itself since I have 2 different IR receivers that don't have this problem, but it could be an issue with a driver that is used for several different receivers that use the same chipset and driver. I used the console in New Vegas just the other night on the machine that's now using the Streamzap IR receiver that used to be on my HTPC.

It doesn't have to use GFWL to support an Xbox 360 controller. Most multiplatform games support it, GFWL or not.

I'm 99.9% confident that Skyrim will have native 360 controller support.

I have to get the console version because I honestly cannot, no matter how hard I try, figure out how to install mods properly...that, and my graphics card is a potato.

What mods are you trying? The majority of simple mods go like this:

- Find the "data" folder in your morrowind/oblivion/fo3/fnv install folder.
- Open the archive of the mod you downloaded, and you should find files with ".esp" or ".esm" extensions, as well as folders like "textures", "meshes", etc.
- Copy all those files/folders into the "data" directory.
- Open the game's launcher, click on "data files", and click the check mark next to the mod you just copied into the data folder.

That's the basic installation for simple mods. You should do that a few times before even attempting something like the FCOM mods.

I used to have the hang of installing simple Oblivion mods but they were always hit and miss for me. Some would work, but others, ussually texture or mesh revamps, wouldnt. However, you have just inspired to learn this sacred art once again :P now to find my copy of Oblivion....

Just a few tips:

If you're reinstalling Oblivion, don't install to the default location (inside Program Files), especially if you're on Vista or 7. I use "C:/Games/Oblivion". This will save you a lot of trouble.

Install http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2097

Inside OBMM, click on Utilities -> Archive Invalidation. The default settings should be fine, so click Update Now. I bet this will fix those problems you had with texture/mesh replacer mods.

Try setting it to "Xbox 360 Controller Emulator", FO3 should recognize it as a 360 controller plugged in. Sometimes when I turn on 360 controller emulation I have to click the "Enable" button below it, and my computer makes a sound like a device has been disconnected (high beep low beep). Then go into the Game Controller Panel and make sure it's all working.

If things are still being wonky, go to the ps3 controller icon in the bottom right of your task bar, right click and click on "Exit". Then re-open DS3 tool, select "Xbox 360 Controller Emulator", and press Enable. Should be all good after that.

THANKS!!! it worked, i owe you one mate

I'm one of those guys who hates playing rpgs on the computer because it lacks a certain feel... like im not even playing, but i really want the mods and the better graphics..

so would it be possible to put my ps3 controller into the computer Via usb and play skyrim with the controller on the computer, ill get the mods, the ps3 feel and the better graphics.

is their a way to do that, and if there is will anyone else do it?

As already stated a 360 controller will work on the PC version but if you want to use a PS3 controller I'd recommend using Pinnacle Game Profiler. I've used it to play Oblivion with a 360 controller and it's just as responsive as playing on console plus you can download ready made profiles for many games, although I prefer making my own, then I can have the controls exactly as I like.

  • A good computer with an HDMI/DVI out
  • A good sound system
  • A good TV
  • A wireless setup
  • A couch so you don't have to play from a chair.
  • An xbox wired/less controller
  • Xpadder (if the game doesn't support gamepads)

Thats how I play and work. It makes gaming on the console and PC seamless, with the biggest difference being graphics.
