Playing on the pc while getting the console feel

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 9:49 pm

I'm one of those guys who hates playing rpgs on the computer because it lacks a certain feel... like im not even playing, but i really want the mods and the better graphics..

so would it be possible to put my ps3 controller into the computer Via usb and play skyrim with the controller on the computer, ill get the mods, the ps3 feel and the better graphics.

is their a way to do that, and if there is will anyone else do it?

Yes, you can hook up a decent PC to a large screen TV and you can use a gamepad. The 360 gamepad will be supported out of the box with Skyrim, I have no experience with PS3's gamepad so I'll leave that to others.

If you have a bluetooth adapter you can even use a standard dualshock 3 wirelessly.

The only thing you might miss out on is the inevitable mods that will add new hotkeys for new functions (like the sprint, bullet time, shield bash, other combat moves, etc mods for oblivion/FO3).

1. Get Xbox 360 controller
2. Plug in USB on said controller into your computer
3. Launch Skyrim change control settings
4. ???
5. Profit!

Its a safe assumption that Skyrim will also be playable with a PS3 controller, should all else fail get Xpadder

P.S i do this with the pcx2 emulator (not illegal) so i dont think im breaking any forum rules

I'm planning on hooking up my laptop too my T.V and using my PS3 controller every once in awhile, I'm sure it'll work but like others set hotkeys for mods won't.

I am pretty sure that close to any PC that is capable of running skyrim will also have the ability to be plugged into your tv. As far as game pads if your willing to make it work it can be made to work. The 360 game pad will work out of the box. PS3 game pad might require a program for profiling. I personally am going to attempt to play Skyrim with a wii mote and numbchuck. Just to see if it works, It does work great on all of the Fable games that went to PC and a lot of other PC games. lol

PC you have the freedom to do pretty much whatever you want as far as controls go. wouldn't be surprised if someone made the kinnect work with skyrim.

Sure. I primarily play with a 360 controller hooked up to my PC (personal preference). Because of this, I fixed it so that certain keyboard keys are still operational even while the controller's in. Things like bringing up the console and quicksaving/loading. You no longer have to unplug your controller to get at those.

Because, man, that bugged the hell out of me during Fallout. :P

Why people WANT to play a first-person game with an anolog stick controller is beyond me.

You can always tell when a gameplay video features someone playing it with controller: Imprecise movement, inaccurate tracking. It's painful to even watch.

If it supports 360 controller there is a great emulator called x360ce. its meant especially for games for windows. Any button the xbox controller have can be emulated.

I too like to play with gamepad, and i would like to request a native support for more gamepads, and if its too much trouble for you to adjust each gamepad atleast leave that option for us to do it.

Also i would like to add a protest note against microsofts "games for windows" which intentionally limits games from using any other gamepad. It is ruining the games for many players.

EDIT:@saferseas We like it that way.

I'm going to do the same as you. I like playing on my computer but... most of the games I play there are strategy games. For an action RPG, I prefer a console controller, because I'm very used to it.

Oh, deathcoffe, thank you very much for that link!

I'll be doing something like this. I'm going to be running it on my nicely equipped PC that's hooked up to my new 52" TV. Higher resolution on a bigger screen (wipes a tear of joy away). I've got an xbox remote I use on my PC occasionally but I'll probably opt for my wireless keyboard/mouse combo...depends on which just feels better.

I wasn't trying to "console-bash" or anything. I love sports games on a controller.....no better way. I just thought people prefered the controller so they could lay on their couch and get comfortable.

*Edit* Well, if you're hooking your pc to your tv, then that makes sense.

Outstanding, this will make Skyrim even more perfect for me (which doesn't really make sense but hey).

IMO. Keyboard and Mouse.
Works much smoother, and offers more buttons.

Necessary? I have trouble playing halo at friends houses but c'mon, leave the PC elitism at the door. It is better for people to buy the game on PC and get the full value out of the game than buying a console version and not getting mods.

Some people have preferred control methods, mine and yours is keyboard + mouse but for these folks it's a controller.

Some of you are assuming there will be gamepad support for Skyrim. Oblivion just had joystick support and it's not the same thing. Keep your fingers crossed for gamepad support!

EDIT: If anyone can provide verifiable information that it will be supported I'd greatly appreciate it.

its Game for Windows just as Fallout 3 was and New vegas for a game to be named GFW needs to have 360 support built in the game. http://wiimedia.ign.com/wii/image/object/093/093395/Elder-Scrolls-V-Skyrim_PC_BOX-tempboxart_160w.jpg

Luckily Motioninjoy's dualshock 3 drivers have an xbox 360 controller emulation mode, which allows you to use a ps3 controller in games like Limbo. Many GFWL games (for example GTA4 and DMC4) work just fine without enabling the 360 controller emulation (allowing you to use other ps3 controller functions like sixaxis motion controls - though without much pc game support for motion controls it's pretty pointless).
