This is the weirdest and, apart from some NPC's falling or moving through solid objects, the only bug i have encountered in new vegas so far. Somehow this happened to one of the NCR troopers during my unscrupulous attack on the base with Helios One's solar weapon. I have seen NPC's being stretched in Fallout 3 before, but this must be the worst i have seen yet. It's torso is all stuck up high in the air, while his head is seemingly pinned down at the top of the bed, which you can see just under the barrel of my gun. I don't have any better picture's, since the engine repeated the glitch in-game even when i reloaded the save-game and as i didn't want to stop playing at the time i didn't bother to take a screenshot and save it to windows. Once i restarted New vegas later, it refused to repeat the glitch, so all i have is this screenshot from the save-gamefile.

  • Factions attacking despite being liked or higher
  • Companions disappearing
  • Passive companions attacking without being provoked (enemies are too far away)
  • NPC's dieing and continuing to stand up.
  • Unable to loot Jean-Baptiste Cutting
  • Unable to sell certain non-quest items, or dropping an item and being unable to pick it back up (e.g. a Ripper and Motor-Runner's helmet)
  • What happened to the Rock-It-Launcher ?
  • Items not displaying the correct weight (e.g. medical supplies which have no weight, contrary to the description notes)
  • Losing weapon keybindings everytime my weapons get taken away by the bouncer
  • Vendors not restocking often enough
  • Travelling merchants going broke and no longer travelling
  • Point blank gunshots missing
  • Unable to see the endgame movies in fullscreen, i had to watch in windowed mode to see how the stories ended.

Despite these bugs, you've made a pretty good game.

Audio glitches (doors opening when there are no doors around, VATS sounds during rest)
Caravan players that won't bet
Visual tearing (I can often see the inside of my PCs facial mesh when sneaking)

Maybe I'm just blind, but perhaps the three major consoles should be listed on there? (PC, PS3, 360)? I don't know but, certain glitches could be more common on certain consoles? Maybe not.

Anyway, to the topic at hand...

1. Minor glitches: I haven't been keeping track of all of them, but couple times, I've noticed things like textures or shading that's totally off, or certain areas with generic, nearly blank, low-def looking floors or walls. Couple times I noticed objects that are stuck in the environment, such as a skull outside Dead Wind Cavern that was half-stuck in the ground and spinning/bouncing like crazy.

2. NPC falling through the environment: Only happened once to me, that I can recall, where a Legionary that I killed fell through the ground during the slow-mo animation. I was still able to loot his body, though it was nowhere in sight.

3. Other NPC/character issues: Not happened too many times, but I've had random teleportation of NPCs during fast travel? Once, the officer in charge at Primm garrison ended up showing up close to me when I teleported from Goodsprings Cemetery to the NCRCF. Another time, Victor showed up bouncing on a rock, when I teleported from Primm to Goodsprings Cemetery. I thought it was a plot thing (as he does show up randomly), but all his dialogue was for Novac.

4. Companion issues: Other than them getting lost and separated in vaults, caverns or buildings, I've never actually lost a companion. I've noticed, however, that they can get stuck in doorways (I have Boone and ED-E right now). Never lost any items they were carrying.

5. Weapons glitches: Haven't noticed many, but I've been unable, sometimes, to switch the type of ammo I use in my rifles. Usually, all I have to do is hit the 'up' button on my D-Pad, and that switches the ammo. Or, I can go to the Pip-Boy and change it there. However, sometimes, it just won't change the ammo from, say, AP to HP or even to regular. In these cases, I have to toss the weapon, and pick it back up again.

6. Freezing: I'm playing on the PS3 and my game crashes. A lot. It wasn't like that before, but it's become more prevalent now, I feel. I can expect 2-3 hard freezes during a 2-3 hour session. But it isn't just overheating or anything. It usually happens, I assume, when there is 'too much' going on, and the PS3 or the game can't keep up. For example, if I'm running, an enemy comes up, and I pull out my rifle and one-shot him in the head, which triggers the slow mo animation. I've also had freezing during load screens, freezing right after fast travel, or load screens that go on indefinitely. In all these cases, I have to either do a hard shutdown/restart of the console, or sometimes I have to just quit the game from XMB. However, I have never had a corrupted save because of this.

I thought about doing that but there's no way to easily separate the three in one thread. Polls are anonymous so unless I made and maintained three different threads (it's hard enough to keep up with this one and still have a life), we're going to have to make do :goodjob:

So far, not had too many problems.
On PC, about ten mods.

Crashes/Freezes: Only three so far. One triggered by Mccafee updating.

Corrupted Saves: One. Got lucky here, it was a quicksave and the autosave from thirty seconds before worked fine.

NPC bugs: Parker at Aerotech not moving when starting his mini quest. Save/Reload fixed and got him going again.
Occasional Fiend/Viper stuck in the terrain slightly. Case of them spawning before terrain has become solid.

Companions: Lily. Poor pathfinding in some indoor areas.Attempts to run through railings and low walls. Gets lost a lot.
Her melee weapon currently has a service rifle fixed crossways on it for some reason.
So far Lily has been the only demonstration of the teleporting NPC bug from Fallout 3 that I've seen so far.

All companions: None of them seem to be able to exit the Hoover Dam Visitor Centre via the lower door. Always head out the upper door.

Items: Couple of stacking issues. Got about seven sticks of dynamite. But only two show in inventory.
Couple of quest items remain in inventory. Can't drop.

Weapons: Reload and fire lag. So far, only occurs occasionally with the Revolver Lucky. Usually if I empty the chamber and reload in VATS.

Audio: Loaded a svaed game in -i think- Vault 11 and all audio was three seconds behind. Fixed with a game restart.
Johnny guitar played three times in a row. Fixed itself after third play.

Visual: White spots on rare occasions. Almost like sun spots.
Sometimes low detail textures show on Nellis Hangers when stood right next to them. Takes a few seconds for higher detail textures to show up.

Other: When hacking, exiting the computer without failing then reentering forces you to sit through the first screen of text before getting to hacking part. Cannot skip on subsequent tries.

Companion niggles, not bugs, but slightly annoying things.

Rex goes after any enemy with fifty bajillion miles. Does not show even the slightest sense of self presavation. Possibly his attack range set a little too high?
EDE-9 will sometimes go off after an enemy kill it and then sit still.

my glitch list.

.307 revolver wont go into vats occasionally, and sometimes when it does, i just stand there pointing the gun untill the enemy kills me.

fell through the floor once. just fast travled to a near by point and continued on- (happened once)

froze twice.

.307 revolver would not fire. had to put it away, take it back out, and shoot again.

nothing really major

Have also run in to a few instances where quests won't initiate or be able to be completed depending on the order I talk to people, such as in "ED-E My Love" and "Oh My Papa" (as already recognized on Fallout Wiki, playing on Xbox 360). Also, I've had moments where my character becomes translucent in third-person view, which also happened in Fallout 3. Can generally fix it by quitting and restarting, sometimes by fiddling with the camera near a wall.

(PC user here)

I can honestly say I've been pretty bug free. But, I played Fallout 3 for over 1000 hours and have hundreds of hours in Oblivion so I'm pretty familiar with the general bugs from these games. I've learned to save, save, save and to catch when crashes or freezes are likely to occur. For me, I get more issues when far textures are switching to near, and sometimes during the transitions I get a split second of lag before I get a freeze. So, if I feel that lag starting to happen, I've learned to just stop walking/running for a split second and the near textures finish loading and everything is great. It's really just "feel" I've learned, and it doesn't inhibit my gameplay at all usually. So, as far as "minor bugs or crashes", I've not had any more than I've had before with Bethesda games.

I only had one save to become corrupted. Well, actually it technically didn't become corrupted, I just ended up losing a few hours of play when the issue on the first or second day happened to peoples saves. No real biggie for me, I just loaded the save it did keep and continued on. That was basically a throw away character anyway so it didn't really matter that much to me.

I have had the bug where you inventory items do not show up correctly. For example, one night I just couldn't understand why it was showing I was carrying over 100 lbs when I should have only been around 60 based on what I was carrying. So, I just started dropping items, and where it only showed I had one set of combat armor (that I was wearing) I was actually carrying 3 sets. After I figured this out I just watch my weight which should always be around 65 lbs after I unload my loot. If it looks funny I know to double check to be sure I don't have more than one of something. It's a minor pain but nothing devastating.

I did get a little frustrated last night when the new update screwed up the archive invalidation stuff, but with the brilliant users and contributors we have around here, it only took about 5 minutes or less to find the fix and play on!

The biggest "bug" that may not even be a bug but done on purpose is the fact that the songs and DJ's for the radio are so dang quiet. I've had to normalize over 200 songs I'm using in my RACE playlist, and it's been a challenge to get them all playing at the same volume. I'm at a loss why the db's for the songs and DJ's were cut to such a soft level. But, I just do what I have to do to get it to work like I want it to work. It's just a little more work on my part, but that's OK. In the end my experience is more rewarding because I put in effort to enhance my experience with the game.

I added a poll question regarding the platform that players use for the game. I understand that many have already voted but if for some reason those people revisit this thread, they can delete and resubmit their vote in order to add their chosen platform.

I apologize for the change. I'm doing the best I can to avoid skewing the numbers.
