What We Know So Far (Again)

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 9:46 am

I picked up the issue of OXM, not really a lot to add, anyway:

Some details on weapon modification, If you want to modify your weapon, take it to an arms dealer. they give an example of adding a scope to a pistol, and the adding a larger magazine (however, a larger mag takes longer to reload)

...

There's something new.

I'd like to hear more about the drawbacks of weaponmods if there is more info of them.

Someone at Obsidian has been reading my mind in that regard, at least partly.

Yeah, it is, it's also where Dr. Li went

in the time between the end of the game, and waking up again in broken steel

It sounds like it could be really promising,

considering it's a place advanced enough to build androids

as for the weapon mod info, that's pretty much it. OXM comments that they can't wait to see the overblown stuff that characters come out with

I really hope that with weapon modification in the game that we will be able to add things such as supressors and buttstocks. Actually, I just want to be able to add a silencer to my shotgun. No Country For Old Men FTW!

RIGHT! I remember everyone wanted a Commonwealth DLC for FO3. Yeah I suppose I could do that. IF they have Fenway park.

yeah ok, well anyway ESV isn't coming out anytime soon, and FO3 was a huge success more so than ES and besides there are plenty of midevil type games around and its pretty obvious they bought the rights to fallout to work on it, not wait 5 years for FO4 that ain't gonna happen, its coming out late next year and ESV may never come out with the Fallout series going strong. look FO was so huge that now we have FO new vegas and next year FO4. so sorry to burst the bubble for all the ESV fans.

When the hell did Bethesda confirm Fallout 4 coming out next year?

All the information is from PC Gamer, PS3M and OXM, which all came out this side of the pond this week. Due to being magazines (and hence copyrighted material) we are not allowed to post links to scans or transcripts. If you want confirmation you will have to buy the magazine or do some detective work... All i'm saying is 'try searching for the opposite of all mutants allowed'

Incidentally, OXM is supposed to be have a podcast with Pete Hines about the game (atleast the mag says so) but I can't find anything on the site =/

So much of this is wrong. Development on Bethesdas next project began well before Fallout 3 was released. They had no reason to start working on a sequel when they didn't know if Fallout 3 would be a success. The copyright or trademark (can't remember which) for "Skyrim" would also suggest ES: V is in fact well under way. They have also started two novels to fill in the gap between IV and V, suggesting V is just around the corner. Besides it has been four years since ES: IV, and Fallout 3 and now Fallout New Vegas has been/will be made very recently/soon. They know they need to give Fallout a rest before it becomes stale, so to fill in the gap, another Elder Scrolls game.

a rest ? bethesda has made only one fallout game, thats FO3 and its been a year and a half since FO3 came out, and its been leaked already FO4 is most likely coming out in 2011, that would be like 3 years since FO4, pete hines said they bought the rights to continue the series, i doubt they are going to make us wait more than 3 years to get a new bethesda made fallout game. i haven't heard anything at all other than from todd howard saying don't be looking for ESV anytime soon. and you're trying to say we should be looking for it soon, i don't think so, i know you prob like TES, it was a good game but with the sucess of fallout and the fact that midevil games are a dime a dozen i pretty think its safe to say TES is on the back burner for a while., you have nothing to make the case that we should be looking for TESV, quite the opposite, but i know you don't want to lose the dream of an ESV. but its just not the priority of bethesda right now, thats based on comments by pete hines and todd howard, so i'm not sure where you get the idea they are making ESV.

I get the idea they are making ES: V by looking at their history. Look at their development cycles and you'll see we are just about due for a new ES game. As far as giving Fallout a rest, they released Fallout 3, and two years later there will be New Vegas, and you expect there to be another Fallout just a year later. Finally, it has not been leaked by anyone that Fallout 4 is coming out in 2011, and all the evidence supports ES: V coming out in the next year or two.

Edit: I am not saying that I would not like another Fallout some time soon, but to say there will not be an ES V, but instead there will be a Fallout 4 is just ridiculous.

i don't see it. they never would of bought the rights to fallout if they were just gonna make one game and then put it on the shelf for 5 or 6 years while letting obsidian possibly overshadow them with fallout new vegas, which is probably gonna be really good. i know you want an ESV, but i can almost guarentee you that FO4 is gonna be out next year and that would be 3 years after FO3 whcih is just about right for the next game, midevil games are a dime a dozen and there is gonna be a lot more incentive for them to make some fallout games and thats why they have obsidian making new vegas, Fallout is making big money and it is a very unique game and there aren't any post nuclear war survival games. there's lots of midevil games. so thats just how its going down.

,

Yep, they bought the rights, just so they could oversaturate the market and wear out the novelty of the Fallout IP within a couple of years. As pointed out, Bethesda have hinted at having been working on their next project since before FO3 was released and it's unlikely they would have been working on another Fallout game without even knowing if 3 would be a success.

which is probably gonna be really good

I should find and link to the topic you made where you said you didn't think NV would be any good because Obsidian was making it and it would have nothing in common from FO3.

i know you want an ESV, but i can almost guarentee you that FO4 is gonna be out next year

Would really, really like to know where you got this info from. Though going from 'It's confirmed' to 'I guarentee' when asked to provide info does imply you're just pulling info out of thin air.

and that would be 3 years after FO3 whcih is just about right for the next game,

But only a year since NV? Even EA aren't churning out Need For Speed games that fast.

midevil games are a dime a dozen

So are post Apocolyitic games. Borderlands, Resistance, STALKER, the upcoming Metro 2033, Hellgate: London, Left For Dead, Gears Of War, Fallen Earth, Wasteland. etc.

Whats the incentive? Lots of sales? ESV will get them the same.

and thats why they have obsidian making new vegas,

It's called milking the cash cow by having someone do the work whilst you concentrate on your flagship project. In this case, Elder Scrolls.

Fallout is making big money

True, but Oblivion would have had similar sales if it had released on all three systems at the same time. Alas, Sony dropped the ball on that one and released the PS3 far too late. In any case, ESV will sell well and make big money too.

and it is a very unique game and there aren't any post nuclear war survival games.

Wrong. See the few games I listed earlier and do a google search. The correct name for the genre is Post-Apocolyptic.

there's lots of midevil games.

And there's lots of Football games, military games, driving games. Doesn't stop them being made nor does it stop them being succesful.

so thats just how its going down.

Evidence?

edit: Had to double post since it wouldn't let me answer all the quoted sections in one post.
