No Patch Yet but DLC avail 12/21

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 9:47 pm

I'm glad that video game glitches are reserved solely for sandbox games. Which leads me to my next point that the DLC is for a sandbox game and will therefore obviously have bugs and thus moots your entire argument. Furthermore save your sententious insults, nothing quite like kicking someone while they're down eh? Makes you feel pretty good, I know. But I guess I'll just have to wait for the patch before I can join in!

ADoseofBuckley why are you just trolling the forums about this glitch and trying to bash on people. I so hope that your game corrupts back 40 hours like so many people's has, because if your saves haven't corrupted you have no reason to be in this forum. I still like fallout and this won't change that but I simply won't play until it is fixed or purchase any dlc until it has been available for a while. Also, I would think that if it is a preorder dlc problem that a fix would be sought rather quickly because your most loyal and motivated fans would preorer more than the average gamer. I don't know the number of people this has affected but I'd like to see the percentage of people who preordered the game and are experiencing the bug. It is a gamebreaker until it is fixed and I don't want to lose anymore hours of play due to a dlc bug. I eagerly await the patch so I can play the game again, this time all the way through.

The idea is to give a balanced viewpoint, not "troll" or "bash". I'm sorry, I didn't see that this was the "Bash Bethesda and Obsidian forums", here's how these forums should work (even though a mod disagrees, apparently wants to make more work for himself).
A - You come in and SEARCH the forums for your issue
B - If after a reasonable amount of searching time (I would say 10 minutes), you haven't found your problem, you create a new post
C - You wait for the patch because there's nothing that you can do, and crying won't make it come any faster.

I have tried to help some people but for the most part, many of you are just not help-able. People come here already angry (maybe for a good reason, I'll admit that losing 40 hours or more to a game svcks, though you can't blame someone else for how you prefer to spend your time, some might say that 40 hours might have been better spend reading or learning about something you didn't know before), they're not here to help the developers or report bugs, they're just here to vent, and they allow that on these forums to a certain degree. OR, they create even more posts for them to wade through, and then whine when someone's not responding to every last post. But you know, maybe I should just let the babies have their bottles and leave the forum alone, let you guys just say "This is BS! I'm never buying another thing from Bethesda!", you can all just sit here complaining, and then you'll do it all over again with Elder Scrolls or Fallout 4 or something else because that's just how people are.

It "moots [my] entire argument" in what way? My "argument" (that Sandbox games have glitches) is not invalid. I said that Sandbox games have glitches. I never said that "ONLY Sandbox games have glitches". Nor did I say that the DLC wouldn't. I said that the DLC will be "fine" for people who have NOT had the DLC issue. Reading comprehension is not your strong suit is it? You're attempting to twist words, something that might work with the rest of the children you verbally duel on the playground, but not here boy. "Fine" generally does not mean "great" or "perfect" or "bug free". "Fine" is usually "acceptable", as my Fallout experience has been so far (you ask anyone with a girlfriend or wife what "fine" means, they'll tell you... it's far from "perfect"). Has it been "bug free"? No, I can't finish Raul's quest because I spoke to Ranger Andy before finding Raul, I had one or two instances where the Mysterious Stranger caused my game to basically lock up, I've had three or four freezes... it's not ideal, it's "fine" though, taking into consideration the massive size of the game and the amount of choices given to you. I remember playing the first Final Fantasy, there was a "glitch" we'll call it, where if you went into one of the later dungeons without having a certain spell, and fought the boss monster, and then didn't have that spell... you basically could not win, or escape the cave after wards. These things happen. Be happy that there's a patch on the way, there were no patches in those days. You started over.

To be frank I think a lot of people have every reason to [censored] and moan about this game. Personally I haven't hadn't any major game breaking bugs (lots of little bugs and a fair few complete system locks). A lot of people however have had bugs that have completely destroyed the game for them (corrupt saves).

As much as I love this game and I'm looking forward to DLC it is not a good customer service move to announce that you are releasing DLC when a large portion of your customers still have a faulty product which is unusable. Yes the people doing the DLC are probably completely different to the team working on the patch but your average consumer is not going to know this. At the very least they should give some very detailed information on exactly when the patch can be expected.

People have bought a faulty product and in the UK at least as it is software it is EXTREMELY difficult to return it once its been opened (most games stores will not refund you for software once the seal on the case is broken). As such people have to rely on the developers to provide a fix. For those saying "whats the point of [censored]ing and moaning over it", the point is it puts the pressure on the developers to actually do something about it. No company wants their official forums (and the many hundreds of unofficial forums) to be full of people complaining so it gives them incentive to pull their fingers out of their behinds and do something about it.

If it was some minor issue (odd graphical glitch, etc) that people where complaining about I would completely agree with the whole "shut up and get over it" sentiment. When the entire game becomes unplayable though then people should complain as loudly as they can.

Edit: And just because other games have been equally as broken doesn't make it right. I work in software development myself and I know how easy it is for bugs to slip through even the most intensive testing. However when product breaking bugs do get through to the retail version you make sure that your customers are kept informed of what is going on to fix it and the last thing they want to hear is that you are adding some extra features when they don't even know when they are going to be able to use the version they already have.

Where did he say that?

Those who haven't run into the DLC issue haven't said there are NO bugs. There were bugs in FO3, there's bugs in Grand Theft Auto 4, there's bugs in pretty much every sandbox game to varying degrees. For those of us who haven't had corrupted saves (I don't know how many times I need to say this but it's not 100% of people experiencing it, nor is it 99% or some other ridiculous number you guys seem to believe because the world revolves around you and therefore if it happened to you it happened to everyone), I'm sure the DLC will be fine and we'll enjoy playing it, even if it's got a few glitches. Everyone having issues, well you'll sadly have to wait for the patch.

Maybe you havent had the experiance yet of ALL your save files being corrupted. Notice I used "YET" because it will happen. It has happened to every player of this game who has opened the map beyond the main quest line off and online.
I already know you experianced one or more of the save files being ruined already, Having admitted this in early pokes at folks who lost data by "save often not after hours". It's also very noticable that the " save bug free experiance" being touted is limited in exploration and without side quest to really give any honest opinion. If one feels it neccarry to speek from an orafice that mostly stinks up a room dont be surprised when folks decide to give you a heeveho out the door with that stinking opinion.

Trust me when every save file wont load on your system youll be swollowing perfume to try and holler like the rest of us.

The idea that a company having any addon to a game released with such problems is an insult. Plain simple.
The download wont be any minor one..and by the looks of the wait a real HD hog to top it all off.
They should wait and get Fallout NV fixed first so we can play the game fully, then take out the addons.

Let me post this post from another topic to explain "politely" why players are not happy. this from another poster but its related to this forum somewhat.
Shay Feral, on 16 November 2010 - 11:54 AM, said:
Actually, it's a perfectly legitimate excuse. Because of us gamers these companies are pressured to release these games as quickly as possible, if Bethesda announced that the game needed to be delayed because Obsidian needed to work out some non-game killing bugs, gamers would be infuriated. It's a loose-loose... At least this way you can play the game, and when the patch for the game is ready you can download it when available, instead of waiting for 6 or more months for a game that you know people will still find bugs to complain about.

To be perfectly honest, most of the complaints I've read just peg these gamers as grumpy and unappreciative. As both me and my friend concur, as well as the more reasonable gamers will agree that most of the bugs in FO: NV are annoying at worst.

The save file corruption is something legitimate to complain about, that much I would agree, I ran into it once and it was because of the "Classic Pack" DLC. But, since I didn't want the content to begin with I deleted it and started all over.

then Smaugjr responds.

Well, you're right that most of the bugs in FO:NV are just annoying. NPCs changing gender in mid-dialog. Scorpions being halfway stuck in the ground. Your arms constantly flipping up and down over your head when you crouch holding a rifle. The Pip-Boy disappearing. There are dozens and dozens of stupid little bugs that you can simply play right through and ignore, and which won't prevent you from finishing quests even if they do distract from the immersion. There are more of these irritating minor bugs in this game than in any other I've played, but they're not the ones that really piss people off.

I haven't hit the corrupted save file bug yet... at least not the one that seems to be triggered by Come Fly With Me. But the first patch that was released the first weekend did manage to kill my main save file. It caused my Xbox to lock up entirely whenever I tried to go into VATS. So I had to revert to a much earlier save, and I got a bit irritated that I lost several hours of work.

The small, non-game-killing bugs are just a sign of sloppiness, which gamers will quickly forgive if the overall game experience makes it worthwhile. FO:NV shows a much greater degree of this kind of sloppiness than FO3 did. If nothing else, I'm appalled at all the typographical errors that show up in the dialog. This is carelessness far beyond that befitting a studio creating a followup to a major GOTY. But whatever; who cares about spelling anymore?

But where you're wrong is to describe the bugs as "annoying at worst." No, they're annoying at best. The worst FO:NV bugs are about as bad as bugs get, locking up your Xbox and corrupting your saves. The only way they could be worse is if they triggered a RROD, ran up your phone bill, burned the HUD permanently into your plasma, and killed your cat.

Nobody really cares if a game's launch is delayed; it happens all the time. Some people will squawk, but who's gonna organize a boycott? At that point, nobody's lost any money over it. But when a game is released prematurely, and loaded with a minefield of game-breaking bugs, that's when there's a problem. There will be a certain minority of customers who have bought the game and do not have broadband internet access. How exactly are those guys going to get their busted game patched? Will Obsidian mail them a disc? They damn well better.

This is not the state of the art. Other game studios know how to do this properly. Halo:Reach managed to come out on time, and I've played the hell out of it. If it has any bugs, cosmetic or game-breaking, I haven't seen them. But Reach was in a playable state over a year ago, the public beta was several months in advance of launch, and Bungie tests their product exhaustively. They'd be way too embarrassed to even think about releasing a game in FO:NV's condition. How many people begged them for a release date in 2009, or even 2008? "Soon," was all Bungie would say for the longest time. And why? Because they wouldn't allow themselves to be rushed into releasing an inferior product. And how much did the delay cost them? Probably not much: they grossed $200 million on launch day alone.

"At least this way you can play the game," you say.

No, many of us can't. Take another peek around this forum, and see how many people are locked out of the Strip, or can't get an NPC to initiate the dialog that will begin a crucial quest. See how many people have seen days of work flushed down the crapper when all of their carefully-spaced save files got corrupted.

Greed killed Fallout: New Vegas. You can't blame the fans. If over three million North American gamers could wait for a relatively bug-free Halo:Reach to be released when Bungie was good and ready to release it, then Fallout fans could reasonably be expected to wait however long it would take for a relatively (if not perfectly) bug-free FO:NV to come out. But Bethesda and Obsidian wanted to cash in early, to capitalize on the eagerness of fans to get a new heaping helping of the postapocalyptic experience that made FO3 a truly deserving GOTY, without investing in all that expensive testing.

It's indefensible greed, plain and simple.

This is why players are upset, they paid money for a game that wasn't complete.

I haven't experience a single save problem. I've played for over 60 hours, beaten the main quest twice from two separate branches of saves, done multiple side quests (something like 60 quests finished or whatever). My girlfriend has played for over 110 hours, the only "major" problem she experienced was the black screen trying to get back into the strip after killing a certain NPC that required her to wear the cowboy hat to re-enter. We both did "Come Fly with Me", My girlfriend has entered every vault more than once... I'm not trying to gloat, and I'm most certainly not lying. I'm just explaining to you how it is and that I'm not the only one.

This is what I'm talking about with balance. Someone like you comes in here and spouts nonsense that "It has happened to every player of this game who has opened the map beyond the main quest line off and online". This is not fact, and you have absolutely no proof of this. You have a couple hundred people on this message board complaining, maybe some guy you know that lives down the street, and that's it. Do you know how many people purchased this game? What you're trying to say is 4 million (maybe only 1 - 2 million if we're talking just XBox 360 users) people bought this game and they've all had saved game corruption. That is a false and grossly incorrect statement. The amount of people with the internet these days, and the types of people that play these types of RPGs, I can tell you right now if a million people had problems, these forums would be even more packed full of repeat posts and complaints than they already are.

As much as we an go round and round assuming the severity of this games state...I challenge anyone to compare this game (pros and cons) that has an equivocal number of bugs. I play every major xbox release (especially these A-list games) and I have never encountered problems of this magnitude on a 360 game (I use 360'to emphasize recent console games).
If someone on here can really report they havent experienced bugs/glitches of at least a passable nature they are either lying or simply not paying close enough attention to the events in game. Just in the previous reply "30 hours" "two playthroughs" suggested that person obviously rushed through each playthrough. My average playthrough has been a minimum of 50 hours (70+ first playthrough, 40+ second playthrough just to make sure I finished my intended end game).
That said, I NEVER had anything remotely similiar in KotOR, GTA, RDR, FO3, AC, AC2, Bioshock 1/2, etc...in TFT I can't remember encountering ANY significant bugs in those games EXCEPT FO3..and even then it was graphic...typical poor framerate issues.

I hate flaming, but I whole heartedly agree that coming on to this forum to simply report you have no issues is equivalent of telling someone who is upset to "calm down".

This game is fundamentally flawed on many tiers of levels and even if a hypothetical % of people report issues, that is still a recognizable margin to acknowledge. Like any data, you have to assume those that are willing and able to report, the number of people fully invested in the game opposed to those that are first time players and just assume it's a mediocre game, etc.
Basically, there are enough confirmed consistent issues to not ignore the severity of real problems many people are facing. Just to reiterate, love this game, but not because it's in the right state. This game COULD have been GOTY had they focused on a 1st quarter 2011 release. As is, there is no way that it will be completely ironed out. I bought FO3 at release and it never suffered from the severity of issues FONV has.

If you don't have issues, then your feedback is truly useless. Not that I want to suffer more crying.
A truly imactful way for people that are suffering the problems of this game would be to either speak out on IGN forums, create a independent user site, or actually present evidence as a group to some consumer advisory. Complaining here is mostly just flapping your gums, but I think once you've yelled at Bethesda it's time to speak elsewhere to share our experiences with other potential FONV gamers BEFORE they buy this game.
Beth doesn't care that we boycott te next game. Affecting upcoming consumers of FONV and all DLC is more impactful than threats for games that aren't even in development.

FO 3 didnt even have this many problems. The inviso walls are espeicially annoying too. It seems to be that Bethesda did a better job programming FO3 than Obisidian, which consists of many of the original fallout devs.

Lets all hope that Fallout 4 is a SOLEY Bethesda project, and Obsidian is cut out of it completely in terms of programming and testing for the game.

I could never complete the main quest in FO3 due to the "Waters of life" freezing glitch where if I go through a door it locks up while loading the next section, they never patched it.

Bethesda is not that great either, Morrowwind on the Xbox had the "dirty disk" freezing bug, Oblivion was buggy, and FO3 was very buggy and had game breaking freezing bugs everywhere.

For those of you defending the game or hating on people with game issues, i'd like to say this;
You need to think about where all these complaints stem from, and even the people complaining don't fully realise why they are complaining, as it's a subconscious thought process to some degree.
Let me explain what i mean. When you go to the electrical shop, and buy a TV, if it doesn't work, you just take it back. Job done.
If you buy a game, get it home and realise it doesn't work as it's full of bugs, there's almost nothing you can do about it. You've just ripped off that little sticker along the side of the case, that says you accept the terms of the licensing agreement, which includes any unforseen bugs, or undesired operation. You take a game back, and tell the store it's bugged, and they won't refund your money, as you've opened the case. At least that's the case here in the UK. If you opened it, you keep it. It's completely wrong, and should be illegal, but because it's a multi-billion dollar industry, they get away with it.
People have that in the back of their subconscious, and so when there is an issue, they are angry, and some of it is down to that little fact that a lot of people forget.
It's a VERY RARE occassion when you can get a refund on a game, and there needs to be widespread publicity of it's problems before that will happen.
So when things go wrong to the extent seen in this game, then people have every right to be angry.
I have experienced some bugs in this game, one of them has halted one of my side quests, but not broken the main game, and the radio bug just has me keep the radio off. Oh and the invisible walls are extremely annoying, but it just means taking a longer route. But yes i'm not happy about it, as i had to accept the licence agreement before i actually got to find out about the bugs, it makes me angry too.

Yeah. You know that for a FACT do you? So you know 40,000 people personally who have reported this issue to you? You've counted 40,000 people on this forum or anywhere else, and identified each one so as to ensure they aren't the same people with multiple accounts/accounts on different forums?

You know absolutely NOTHING for a fact.

God, you arrogant loadmouths make me laugh. i don't need to speak to 40,000 people to know that this game is SERIOUSLY broken and a hell of a lot of people are encountering these game breaking bugs. it's called reading buddy. reading the amazon reviews, reading the gaming reviews put out by well known gaming magazines like Game Informer, ect. it's called deduction. do you really think that Bethesda would be bothering to waste their time making a patch to fix problems for 400 people? no they would not. so go take your smart ass remarks some where else.

Too much clean up required. It's a nest of flames. Join one of the other threads but don't flame and get it closes as well. We have plenty like this, no need for a new one.
