Timed exclusive DLC AGAIN?

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 5:58 am

Has anyone ever considered that some people just don't like using the mouse and keyboard? and don't like having to update hardware to play games? This is why I play games on consoles with the exception of Command and Conquer. Oh, and the timed DLC is BS in my opinion, but I knew it was going to happen. I'll just trade my current copy in when a GOTY gets released.

I keep reading that this timed DLC is Microsofts fault. Why is it Microsofts fault? How come Sony doesn't do this? I don't see Uncharted on for the PC or 360, so it's an exclusive as well. How come people are not up in arms over that. So are some people saying that Vanollia Games, in this case New Vegas is not good enough? You have to have DLC as well? So it's an exclusive. Big deal. So what. How does that help Microsoft? Are you going to buy a 360 so you can have DLC instead of playing the actual game? If you do not do this, then this timed DLC does them no good, because anyone who got the game for the 360 will be getting the DLC anyways. People who got NV for the PC or PS3 will not be buying DLC from xbox live, so all it does is just make Microsoft spend money but will not really get them any more money. You think Microsoft would spend hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars just to piss of non xboxers off? I don't think so.

So many companies do this, but I only hear people complain that Microsoft does it only. Sony does it as well. What if Microsoft makes TES V 360 exclusive, then people will have something to really complain about. No more worries for making the game run on differnt PC makes. No worries about compatibily of drivers and peoples different hardware. No more worries about getting the game to run on the PS3 at all. All the time can be spent on making TES V for one console and less people will be complaining how the game doesn't work for PC or PS3.

I rememeber when I was over joyed to play Morrowind on the Xbox. Yes we didn't have patches. Yes we didn't have the expansion packs. You know what? Who cared, I could play Morrowind because my computer at the time couldn't play Morrowind. A year later we had the GotYedtion. So we had to wait. But we got it.

So be happy you have the game at the same time as the 360. For Morrowind we had to wait an extra 6 months after the PC players got to play it. But we finally got it. So you have to wait for DLC. Did you buy New Vegas for DLC or to play the game?

I just can't believe the game just came out, and now it's not good enough, people want DLC for it now.

I'm on xbox, no problems except for the stupid gun waving around glitch. Although I do think exclusive or delayed DLC for other platforms is really stupid... If it's released on more platforms at the same time, less arguments, more happy people and faster finding of glitches...

The way I see it, the DLCs are going to come out on both the PC & PS3 some time after they come out on the Xbox 360 (just like they did with Fallout 3). So I would not worry about it.

OMG! HOW DARE THEY? Sony just got exclusive DLC for the new Assasins Creed game. This is not fair. This is not time exclusive but only PS3 exclusive. That would mean I will never get the chance to play it now on the PC or 360 now. How dare Sony do this. See, Sony does this as well, but only Microsoft is the evil one eh? At least the other platforms will be able to play the DLC as well at a later time. Yes it svcks, but that is the way buisness is done. Sony does it, Microsoft does it.

why try to make a point using different games? Assassins creed blows compared to fallout anyway and this isn't assassins creed.

I don't care for Assasins Creed. I am just saying it happens.

Why make a point using a different game? To show that Microsoft isn't the only company that does this. Sony does this as well. The question that needs to be asked is how come Sony didn't do this for New Vegas.

Dude, the timed DLC is just for Xbox 360.

And, not everyone has 1000 Dollars to spend updating a comp just to get some friggin mods.

It doesn't cost thousands to upgrade a computer. I've built mine for like $800 last year, and don't plan on making ANY upgrades for atleast another year, and if I do it will be cheap. And unnecessary.
You can go YEARS without upgrading anything.

There is much more to gaming PCs then mods. PC > consoles by a long shot.

My words exactly. I've been playing since launch too, and have 2 freezes which required me to restart the PS3, saw a little of lag when I'm in Westside, and the red square bug when trying to mod my Weathered 10mm that came with the CE. Other than that, the game runs smoothly, and I just clocked over 65 hours.

I got my computer like 3 years ago and it runs EVERYTHING on the highest resolutions with AA and everything with not a hint of lag and I get to play mods which are usually a lot better than the game itself, not to mention that PC games are quite a ton better than console games... civilization series? planescape torment and other oldies? starcraft? eh. consoles are for the dumber ppl.
The investment in a gaming PC is quite worthwhile I assure you. buy one right after the next console generation comes out.
The console market killed hardware advancement in PCs because most games are now 'standard prettiness' so they can run on consoles (though they always look better and control better on PC anyway), so no new PC hardware is necessary pretty much for the lifetime of the console generation.
Ironically enough, that's the biggest pro for buying a PC instead of a console.

So there you go, sorted.

I don't make $50,000,000 a year. I've got car payments, insurance payments, taxes, rent, utilities. I just don't see how you could assume I have $4,000 sitting around. And don't try to tell me I can find a computer that can run Fallout New Vegas in maximum quality lag-free for under $4,000.

Dont mean to be a dike but really, if you have a computer already all you need is a box and you can easily put one together that can max out FO3/NV for 800 bucks. i.e. The box im running I spent about that much on a year ago, and it runs pretty much everything great. Then again i built it myself, not sure what the retail tag for a prebuilt with the same specs would be.

its not 1998 anymore you dont need to spend 5 grand on a computer to play the latest games. Build a mid range box for around 7-800 and it will last you 3-4 years with maybe a upgrade or 2 in that time frame.

The number of gamers that buy DLC is actually a lot lower than people think. In most cases it winds up going multiplatform eventually and then there are always GOTY compilations too. Publishers know this and that's why they often fall for that initial MS exclusivity because MS throws them the money and they get more revenue that way.

MS (and in some cases even Sony) pays a bundle of money for x amount of months exclusivity for DLC
The majority of users that pay for said DLC are usually the ones that hold on to their game and not sell it upon completion
Other-console/PC game owners hold on to the game waiting for DLC to eventually be available, or they sell it and possibly reacquire it when DLC is available, or get the GOTY

That seems to be a good business model, but PS3/PC users are still annoyed for now (myself included)

And also agree with my fellow gamers above.. You can even buy a $500 dell so long as it has a PCIe 16x slot and slap in a $150 video card to play NV/FO3 with max details at 1080p

Of course it is about money. The shareholders expect them to earn money so the stock goes up in value and dividends increase. Who are the shareholders? Anyone who has a 401k or similar retirement plan, anyone who has holdings in a mutual fund as future retirement plans. In other words, you and me.

No, dont think of it that way. The Xbox users are actually Beta-Testing the dlc for us. Do you remember the Reference Glitch in the Shivering Isles? As hell unfolded, Bethesda fixed the bug and released it bug free to the ps3.

That goes both ways, my friend. Sure your getting it less glitchy, but at what cost? Last time, the cost was a years wait. That was the sole reason as to why I got F:NV on my 360 instead of my PS3.
