Timed exclusive DLC AGAIN?

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 12:35 pm

I have to admit, the "exclusive" FO3 DLCs for the XBOX360 really ticked me off, especially since Bethesda gave absolutely no indication that those DLCs were ever going to make it to the PS3 platform, I thought us PS3 users were going to get shafted with lack of DLCs like we were on the PS3 Obilvion DLCs.

I was however glad that the DLCs finally did arrive on the PS3 platform. Granted, we didn't get out first DLC until well after Mothership Zeta was released for the X360, but once they started rolling out, it was heaven. They decided to release Broken Steel first, since it upped the level cap and gave the game an open ending and every Thrusday after (back then PSN releases were on Thursday instead of Tuesday), we had back to back releases: Operation Anchorage, The Pitt, Point Lookout and finally Mothership Zeta.

Personally, I hope they don't wait THAT long to develop the "timed" DLCs for the PS3 platform and release the first DLC for the PS3 before they develop the next FONV DLC for the XBOX 360, but I guess it really depends on how much M$ paid to keep it's "exclusive" term for the X360.

Really? Are you honestly telling me that you can run from one side of the map to the other without the game stuttering every twenty feet and potentially crashing? Be honest. If you're experiencing any bugs at all, you're not doing anyone any favours by pretending that you aren't.

I'm on the PS3 aswell, and the game is in pretty terrible shape for me. The only other game I've played that was anywhere near this bad was Two Worlds on the Xbox 360. I'm not sure if New Vegas is quite THAT bad, but it's not far off.

Well, I'm on the PC and I can run from one side of the map to the other without crashing. Indeed, I'll only get crashes very infrequently, perhaps one every eight or nine hours, and most of the time it's because I'm doing something stupid like playing around with the console commands. (Fun fact: adding 99999999999999 suits of power armor to your inventory is a terrible idea. :P)

Beyond that, I've only noticed very rare bugs. I had Veronica stop responding once, which I fixed with a simple save -> reload, and I had one hilarious bug where I rush up to the Boomers. I make it to the gate in mid bombardment and the dialog triggers. Cue doing the Boomer quests only to fast travel back to the gate to pick up that Brotherhood holodisk when, surprise, the bombardment continues! Also fixed that with a quick save -> reload. Oh, a few misplaced rocks, radscorp clipping, and one instance of an NCR trooper typing on nothing, but that's minor stuff that I saw in FO3 too.

I don't know why so many people think you have to spend huge amounts of cash to get a pc that runs FONV on high settings  It's just not true I have a $500 rig I built from part from newegg and I can run NV on high settings and that's what the program system checker set it on not me.

Just over all from what I have been reading, New Vegas is glitchy on both 360 and PS3, and not nearly as much on the PC. I haven't had any strange glitches, possible 2 crashes, no corrupt data. But any way you chose you'll be playing a great game. A few glitches shouldn't make you all argue like so. But hey I would say put away money here and there and you can afford a computer in no time like a year or 2 but still. you only need like $800-$1000 to play all the games on ultra setting for the next year or 2 (that is if you order and build it yourself)

It works fine. Maybe it's your system? I'm about 30 hours in my first character, and have only froze once.

I take fine care of my PS3, and FO:NV has run like a charm.

Sure I was disappointed when on launch day it came out and people were griping like babies over how terrible it was, but I ws relieved to know that my copy works just fine, and has a good frame rate, with only 1 crash in 30 hours.

It's definitely not my system. It's only four months old and I never have problems with any other games. I've got.. MGS4, Uncharted 2, MAG, Infamous, and Demon's souls. I can honestly say I haven't had even a minor hiccup with any of those other five games. No problems, nothing. The problem is with New Vegas itself. The game is just buggy as hell. If you aren't experiencing ANY bugs whatsoever, like you say you are, you're just lucky.

I will second the fact that the game RUNS VERY SMOOTHLY ON MY PS3. The bugs I have encountered are NOT game stopping. My game does NOT freeze up.

And yeah.. that's not exactly reassuring. I don't care if the bugs are "game stopping" or not. If you felt it was necessary to mention that you were experiencing them, then the game isn't running smoothly, is it?

It's going to be locked anyway. It's too much like a console war at this point. Not that there was ever any danger of that being avoided after the OP's comment about the PS3 being the superior platfrom, the thread the pretty much screwed from the get go due to that alone.

Opinions as to why 360 is getting exclusive DLC's in this case.

Because Microsoft paid Bethesda for exclusivity again.

Why PS3 getting them eventually isn't possible (from what I've read thats what It seems people think)

Nah, when the exclusivity agreement expires, PS3 and PC will get the DLC then. Going by FO3, the Xbox will have DLC5 by the time everyone else is getting DLC1.

Fallout games are actually complete garbage on the PS3 until a little after the first 12-13 months.

So Fallout 3 and NV was/is garbage until some DLC with roughly 10 hours of gameplay comes out?

I don't make $50,000,000 a year. I've got car payments, insurance payments, taxes, rent, utilities. I just don't see how you could assume I have $4,000 sitting around. And don't try to tell me I can find a computer that can run Fallout New Vegas in maximum quality lag-free for under $4,000.

Not me, I waited till the PS3 was $299, because I don't have the extra 5-6 gundred dollars laying around.

I'd rather have a PS3 andways, because it's internet is FREE, if you can pick up a connection. And also, it won't get viruses or run slowly after a week.

I have a laptop, and I do my weekly maintenance, update drivers and etc.. But no matter what, my pc is gonna be out of date, and probably always will be. My PS3 won't be out of date till the next gen syatems come out.

360's and PS3's will be out of date always because PC's are always advancing.

Why do people assume you need thousands upon thousands for a decent gaming computer? You could get a computer for $700-800 that could run FNV on Ultra with <5 second load times. $4000 to run FNV on Ultra.. how hilarious.

These days you can build a gaming PC for $400 if you buy smart.

$400 PC.
$160 monitor.
$10 mouse.
$10 keyboard.

VS

$300 console.
$600 TV
$40 controller.
$15/m subscription for online play.

Yeah but the tech used to create the games advances at the same pace as the consoles do. So essentially, the success of the consoles is holding the PC back. A lot.

You'll get quicker load times, higher resolution and mods. But the core game is usually the same.

Didn't the PC get the DLC along side the 360 last time because windows is Microsoft as well? So I am assuming the same deal is happening this time around. I might be wrong but every time a DLC was announced for a date i got it on the PC on that date.

Which is exactly how much mine cost and is exactly how well it runs the game.

I'm a PC, and I have had nothing but an awesome experience so far. Only one crash, half way across hoover dam (that is repeatable every time, so I'm assuming it is a bug). Aside from that, 100 hours played and no framerate issues, stutters, anomalies, glitches of any kind. And I have a £200 generic bareboney PC with a crappola £30 gfx card.

My computer is over two years old and it was purchased for well under $2000 and it runs Fallout NV at maximum quality with no lag. It also runs Crysis with all of the bells and whistles DX9 allows at 1280x960 without any lag (although it will pause when it needs to load a new section of the map).

There are a lot of things you can do to trick out a PC: RAID arrays, SLI, quade core processors, fancy RAM, but none of it is necessary for a solid gaming PC and when you start removing these options you cut out a lot of the price. If you want something really bleeding edge than yeah these components are great but on the other hand sometimes they aren't even supported.

Last time the PC got the DLC alongside the 360 because the DLC distribution platform was Games for Windows Live. This time, the DLC distribution platform is Steam, which means that Microsoft doesn't make money off the DLC hence the exclusivity agreement this time around *appears* to be "360 exclusive," at least until the agreement expires.

I didn't understand a word you said here. RAID arrays? SLI? fancy RAM? UH?! So yeah, I can't build a gaming PC at all. I don't know how. So consoles are perfectly fine for me.

So now I am an idiot now because I can't make a gaming PC. I am not saying Hungry Donner is saying it, but for all the people who say you can get a gaming PC for under $800. I can't do it because I don't know how. So it's not easy. You might as well be saying everyone can do brain surgery since all they have to do is read up on it. It's not so easy.

Then again, if you can make your own gaming PC, wouldn't that mean you can make your own computer games then? So why are you buying computer games when you can be making your own? We buy consoles because we don't want to make a gaming PC. We buy games so we don't have to make them. So for the PC people who say that we should be making PC rigs, why don't you make your own games then?

Well you're just being silly now, and have bought into the "pc's are expensive" console propaganda.

Here's what my last PC cost to build(since I grandfathered my old HDD's, PSU and multi-purpose DVD burner, and video card I'd upgraded recently). I built it a year ago, so I could play Dragon Age
$349 Canadian
That included, new mobo, new cpu, new memory.

If I had to build it from scratch it would run me around $500 including a 19" monitor, video card(pick your flavor of a DX10 card) and case. PC's aren't rocket surgery, you don't need super smarts to build one yourself(there's an ass load of guides on how to do it). If you have an existing copy of an OS you can grandfather it over legally. And if you don't, you can always go with linux+wine and have a fine time too.

edit: Let me add this. It would cost me $500 because I'm being somewhat picky with components. Taking a look at my local computer shop(chain) that builds PC's they can do it for about half the price, and it would still be 'good'.

Whether or not you understand the terms is moot. You can use google to learn about them. You can build one, you simply don't want to. If I can teach my little sister, and my GF how to build their own PC's by pointing to a guide and saying "here do it", and if you have problems give me a call. Well, that's saying something. Especially for two people who'd never touched the inside of a PC, or installed their own OS, or configured it.

If you can figure out how to plug something in the right way, you can build a PC. That's all there is to it. Things only go in one way. You know that old saying, round to round, square to square, slot to slot. And a square peg, doesn't fit in a round hole? Yeah that's how difficult it is to build a PC. Because all those PC's built by dell/acer/HP/sony are built by people with next to no education, and for min. wage(depending on their country).

People who own PC's make their own games all the time. Look up the MUGEN community, or RTPVX community. Not to mention you think things like mods are all easy to make? MMM and OOO are ~2yrs worth of blood and time for their creators, and those are only modifications that are overhauls to the existing game. Making your own game on the PC is vastly easier than on consoles which are closed SDK's(that's software development kits).
