Valve is Lazy with Hl2 maybe, but releasing 10 games in 6 years isn't lazy at all

Bethesda has never done wrong by me. They are up there with Rockstar for me.

Reading the title, I wondered what on Earth this thread would be about, and it turned out to just be another "old school RPG" rant like the millions that clog up Skyrim General Discussion.

I am just replaying ME2 now, and I still think it is better than ME1. Atmosphere, story, combat, environments, all got better in my opinion. I didn't care about the lack of loot, as there wasn't that much tactics to what you chose in ME1. If characters didn't regen naturally you'd use a regen armor mod for sure. For weapons you pick whatever offsets their disadvantages. It was fun but not deep, and fiddling around with it all was time-consuming.

I don't like heat sinks in ME2 though. In story terms they make no sense. But surely that is not "dumbing down" but rather "dumbing up" as they added something fiddly that doesn't really make much difference to gameplay, which is what "old school RPG" ranters seem to love most.

In your experience as a game developer, what, specifically, could they do less lazily?

Infinity Ward are the kings is we're talking revenue here. Activision has a very comfortable future ahead. Bethesda is a bit lagging behind and wont touch the CoD franchise as far as sales go. Battlefield 3 couldn't and won't even do it.

You may think GTA IV was terrible, but when it came out it set the record for the fastest selling game ever(which was then overtaken by MW2 and then again by Black Ops). The creators of Ironman(the movie) released the movie a week after GTA IV came out because they were worried that it would hurt their sales, this is the first time a movie studio has ever done this. San Andreas is the best selling PS2 game ever and the PS2 still has the largest game library of any console(other then the PC probably). Whatever you may think of GTA IV doesn't matter, Rockstar is still doing pretty damn well for themselves.

imo it's Valve, Retro Studios, Rockstar , Nintendo, Konami, Bethesda. Retro Studios especially, they made Metroid Prime. <3

Valve, Rockstar and Beth are my top devs.

Nope, bethesda is good but rockstar's games are always good and there are a lot more too. Bethesda the best at rpg though.

I'd have been more concerned at the Zyang one than IW
