1.01 patch

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 7:28 pm

Well so far I haven't seen much of a change in the game itself since the patch, but I did notice that the script during the loadscreen would start out messed then right itself, which didn't happen before the patch... So far fast travel has been fine even with a companion, but I guess I'm waiting for the ball to drop on that... Haven't had a freeze lately (so far I'm at 10+ in my 36 hours of play), but the it keeps wanting to... I really wish they had gotten this cleared up before going public with the game...

19mb feels small for the amount of junk going on. Unless this one in a series of more to come.

I can't test it out right now due to Michigan having bad weather and interfering with my wireless signal...

Medal of Honor also got it's patch live an hour ago. Tuesday is usually the day we get updates.

Im from Michigan too! :celebration: But i have not try the update yet! Hows it work for you?

Spoke to soon.... just went "black" still better than every 5 mins though...

Do you mean to say that you play the game at 1080 resolution? Its my understanding that its a native 720p. Thats what mine is running at anyway. Are you up-converting?

After I installed the patch it doesn't give me the option of loading the save files I have.

After 30hrs of play and getting up to level 20 I gotta start over again!

Thanks Bethesda! :flame:

Now that, to me, is a first.
Do you mean that the game hangs/freezes/crashes on start-up (which is a well known issue in these forums) or do you mean that when the game starts your previous game saves are not there?
If the latter is the case, what platform are you on? I'm assuming PS3 since that is the forum you're in and if that's the case then that is just wildly weird. In all of the installing/deleting/reinstalling/workarounds/reformatting, I have never not been able to find and load a manual save! If this is something new and can be verified then there is truly something strange going on about this whole situation.

What I mean is that I have been puzzled from the start as to why so many people are not experiencing the same catastrophic freezing/crashing problems (I'm talking ONLY about the PS3 here) that so many of the rest of us are enduring. There are too many people who come across as completely honest and frustrated with too many varied problems. I'm starting to wonder if there is any truth in something I read in another thread (I forget which) about different companies doing the actual disc burning and maybe one or two had some sort of flaw. I'm not saying that's the case! I don't know near enough about programming and game design ... meaning I know nothing about programming and game design! I am just sincerely and honestly puzzled by the diversity of experience with F:NV on the PS3.

Yes, I'm talking sole and totally about the PS3.
This is the " Fallout: New Vegas PlayStation 3 Issues" forum and I don't care about PC or Xbox. No offense to readers coming here to get the lay of the land ... I do the same in both the PC and Xbox forums ... but I own a PS3 and that is my primary concern..

My bad... You are right its 720p not 1080 (Didn't actually pay attention to the box, just changed my PS3 settings trying to get it to work.)

Yes, I'm playing on the PS3; when I load the game the start menu only gives me the option to start a "new" game and the "load" and "continue" options are not available to me as they are shaded over.

My game saves are in my PS3's Saved Data Utility File but for some unknown reason the game can not access/recognize them now.

Fun times for all.......

I installed patch 1.01 just now and it does not fix an issue I am having where the game crashes when I attempt to enter The Strip from Freeside. Sadly, I guess I'll have to start a new game if I plan on finishing the main story (50+ hours in). :(

Its seems like the patch made the game worse.never had it froze till patch

Game worked fine for me before patch! Went to play it yesterday automatically installed patch worked for about 3 hr's and now I'm getting the black screen of death! Re-boot, go to load last saved game now it freezes on load screen! Why is it only Bethesda games I have trouble with? I Love Fallout is probably in my top # 5 games i have played but come on before you release a game make sure the bug's our work out! If this doesn't get fixed I'm sorry i will not purchase anymore games from your company! PS3, 80G, fat model!

Hmmm....I'm a newb...don't mind admitting it either. My brother and I played the game for the first time last night (We're GMT+2 just for the record). Had no issues, except for the one sheriff in the beginning floating in the ceiling. And we noticed some small pauses when running through the wasteland. But aside from that, all seemed alright. It seemed a bit better after we downloaded the upgrade for the machine to the latest version....

I'm clearly being stupid, because I can't find where to download the patch from?

I'm not going to install it right away though, I don't think. I'll just wait and see how the game goes.

Guys...not top be condescending but...

Patches are not going...I repeat...not going to solve the freezing issues. They are only going to fix glitches, quest triggers, various bugs etc.

To solve the freezing issue they have to rewrite the engine from ZERO.

It's not that they don't want to do it, or that they are evil...it's just that it cannot be done.

Isn't it obvious at this point? Because honestly...I can't really imagine any other reason why the game still freezes.

Well, Bioware did it for Dragon age over several patches, reducing the number of crashes, fixing slowdowns and frame rate issues.
Ubisoft did it for the first Assassin Creed, increasing stability and reducing crashes also.
If those company can do it, I'm pretty sure Bethesda will be able to do it also. It just takes time, and sadly I have less and less the desire to wait for it

Mines unplayable now. The "Black" issues I am having now happens constantly. (I will not post to much since I think I've ended up spamming 4-5 threads just looking for anyone else having this same issue)

I doubt this will be fixed with a patch either, since this is clearly something with the engine rendering. I would love to know why it is that on something where the hardware specs are locked down, so many people are having such different experiences. (Hell, I can understand with the PC market. So many different potential hardware configurations is a Nightmare. I even remember a glitch with civ 3 that if you had a certain brand of scanner plugged in, the game would crash. (something about the scanner driver locking up resources that the game expected to be there.)) but on a console???

Such a shame. I was really looking forward to this one too, (Being done by the same guys that did 2) but alas. Twas not to be. Going to see if I can trade it in for Borderlands, or maybe Dragon Age tomorrow.

That doesn't really mean much. I know next to nothing about programming, but I do know that code can be much bigger than it needs to be. Judging by the rest of this game, I wouldn't be surprised if the patch consists of over a thousand lines of code that could easily be condensed into five.

Off topic: Oh and Kuros overkill, I'd get the Dragon Age Origins Ultimate Pack if I was you. Borderlands is a fantastic game too, but Dragon Age is definitely more bang for your buck.

Continuing Off Topic: Thanks. The reason I was thinking of Borderlands is that I still want to play something that takes place out in a wasteland. But Bioware hasn't steered me wrong yet.

If all that changed was code, then 19mb can probably contain quite a bit (am a programmer) Its the 'Assets' that usually take up the most space. (Textures, models, speech files, etc..) even a 19mb text file is deceiving since unless its Real text (ie Notepad). If its word pad, or an Office app, there is usually some formatting that bloats the size, not to mention that the file itself is going to be compressed is some way.

Does anyone know of a way to check if you have the patch 1.01 patch? I think it may have updated but i am not entirely sure, as i was redeeming my code for the classic pack at the time.

I think it may have downloaded something for 19mb's which i just assumed was the classic pack. I don't have internet on my ps3 very often, in fact it was the first time i have ever registered on psn.

Go to the games section of your PS3 XMB then scroll all the way up to the top to "Game Data Utility" find the game data for Fallout: New Vegas then press the triangle button on the controller when you have it highlighted and it will bring up a sub-menu with copy, delete, information, and about. Select the information option and a sub-screen will pop up listing info for the data and version number in that list.
