What are the benefits of Obsidian over Beth?

You have zero cause to complain. You have absolutely no right to anything. You should get down on your hands and knees and thank the people involved here for even bothering to make more Fallout games rather than make unfair comparisons to a style of gaming that is never going to sell another copy and would leave your two "classics" to be forgotten.

Nice troll. Go back to frolicking under your bridge.

Wait, what?

1. You obviously haven't read any of my posts.
2. I should be on my hands and knees thanking the people that won the bidding among the other developers that wanted to make Fallout 3?
3. Lolwut?
4. Do you have anything to contribute to the discussion outside of accusing anyone with any criticism of Fallout 3 of wanting to take gaming back to 1997? That's neither relevant nor interesting.

This, especially.

Fallout 3 was going to come regardless. Bethesda just had the cash.

I wonder how much the developers got paid for making fallout 3.

I'm sure Bethesda raked in quite a profit compared to what they paid for the franchise. Otherwise, the series wouldn't be going full steam ahead as it is now. Pretty sweet deal, all things considered.

I think its time for you to reconsider how you are arguing your point. You are only making yourself look like a fool and you are really not helping your case..... What is you case exactly?

....
No. No it's not.

Let's be clear about this, here. What even the most rabid "old-school" Fallout fan has been "crying" for is not Bethesda's vision of Fallout 3, but done by a different company, and taking place in another locale.

.....

New Vegas isn't that sequel, sure - but that doesn't mean that I can't hope for some incremental improvements and refinements. Obsidian working on New Vegas isn't, from the point of view of an old fan, going to inherently make it "better" than anything Bethesda could have done. But it still looks like it's going to be a good game, with some key improvements upon Bethesda's framework. It's a frakkin' win/win people...

Ok, Im a bit confused so bear with me. Obsidian making another FO game (essentially FO3 v.2) is not what fans of the originals wanted? Rather they want Obsidian to start from scratch and build a Fallout game from the ground up. ( just trying to clarify)

Methinks it be getting off-topic in here.

For those of you who have been following fallout for much longer then I have what are the benefits of Obsidian developing the game?

Obsidian can create a better game by fixing the flaws of Fallout 3. This is because Bethesda has already created a good free-roaming environment, and by listening to fans and using their own specialty (story, dialogue), Obsidian can make New Vegas stronger in other areas.

Is it true that a lot of hardcoe fans feel that Bethesda ruined fallout with fallout 3?

Many people fell like this, yes. Many also like Fallout 3 better and many think they're about the same.

I have played the originals and I couldn't stand them compared to fallout 3.

I was the same way. I first played Fallout 3 and then heard how everyone said Fallout 1 and 2 were so much better. When I first played Fallout, I was disappointed and stopped playing after 5 minutes. A few moths later, I replayed and had lots of fun. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

i don't understand what you guys mean when you say Fallout 3's story was bad compared to the first two games. I own and have beaten both Fallout 1 and 2 and i have to say those stories weren't that good either. Don't get me wrong i love Fallout 1,2 and 3 im a big fan of all of em and i pre-ordered the CE of New Vegas, but i mean come on Fallout 1: Oh no we are running out of water go find a chip in 150 days, Thanks you found the chip now go kill the mutants in about 400 days; good job now your banned. Fallout 2 now this game the story started off kind of lame to me but got really cool when the enclave captured your tribe and you had to track em down and they were experimenting with the FEV, i thought all that was cool so that was a nice story, then Fallout 3 the story got simple again but to me all of the sidequests made up for that because they all had little stories of their own where as FO1 and FO2 the sidequests to me were just quick kill missions for money or exp no real story behind them.

Oh god Mugglelover's avatar is applying here. Seriously, this argument that "you should be grateful to beth for FO3" never gets old.

*grabs popcorn and drink*

Whatever they get they're going to do nothing but complain. They have complained non-stop for twelve years that nothing has lived up to Fallout and they will never be satisfied with anything because no one is going to do that game over the way 10,000 people with different opinions want.

You have a hell of a chip on your shoulder for no reason. You should probably quit while you're ahead.

I think that my topic description explains it well enough.

For those of you who have been following fallout for much longer then I have what are the benefits of Obsidian developing the game?

I never heard that hardcoe fans hated Fallout 3, but after posting a few things about Fallout 3 references in New Vegas. I quickly gathered alot of hate seemed to be garnered. Which in my opinion makes NO sense. Specially due to the fact that Fallout would now be a dead series had Bethesda NOT picked it up. Heck Fallout 3 honestly made other people even realize the series existed. So -shrug- I don't understand the hate.

For your topic though. Obsidian has done alot of good sequel titles in followup to other games, so making another game based off of a prior one works very well for them. Put in the fact that for much of the Obsidian team this would be a revisiting of a world they did create prior to the one they are working off of now. I can only imagine that a certain amount of love and passion they had previously thought might be dead or unused ever again. Can only make the game that much more of a labor of love. (That being said if it svcks I would be completely shocked lol)

False. The franchise was being sold to the highest bidder when Interplay was being driven into the ground. Bethesda happened to be that highest bidder.

A new Fallout title was inevitable. Bethesda just had the cash, as I stated a couple posts ago.

Staying closed and I'll be here half the night going through this thread giving warnings left and right. Some folks don't seem to take our rules against flaming/flamebaiting and namecalling seriously. It might be time for you to take a gander at the rules.
