To those who joined Stormcloaks because of Talos ban

I think the issue is Daedra worship feeding into criminality. To open a massive can of worms, let's use a real world example. Use of hard narcotics does not, in and of itself, harm others. However, it is perceived as being linked with criminality, both due to making stupid (criminal) ideas seem awesome, because of the lengths some people go to in order to sate additions, and because of the role of drug sales in organised crime. So while Daedra worship itself may not be "wrong", it might be seen as enabling criminality, and thus outlawed.
Totally agree! There is certainly a reasonable case to be made for outlawing Daedra worship, based on the antisocial shenanigans that many Daedric cultists get up to.

The point is that outlawing Daedra worship while soapboxing for religious freedom is highly hypocritical, regardless of whether there are "good reasons" to suppress the cultists.

The Stormcloaks themselves are religious oppressors; it's just simple fact. Whether or not they're right to do it is irrelevant to the (correct) thesis of the OP.

dude im pretty sure they are fighting to have talos reinstated as a god to worship with the other 8 gods. also that whole forsworn situation resulted in Ulfric's group getting HIRED to wipe them out in return for freedom to worship Talos, AND a huge AND Ulfrics group didnt wipe out the forsworn because they were worshipping "demon gods' but because they had taken over the Reach from the empire which inwhich he went in cleaned house to liberate the place like he was hired to do then the thalmor caught wind of Ulfric worshipping Talos and the reach ratted out Ulfric to save themselves form going into another war to which that betrayal led to ulfric's stormcloak rebellion.

They were recapturing a place that had been captured like they were hired to do, not to go in a persecute the silly lil daedric worshippers

These post are a waste of time really as most player will play the game through a number of times and choose both sides anyway.

I personally decide which side to join upon what character I am playing, for example:

Altmer Mage : Imperial as he is hated by the Nords anyway
Nord Warrior : Stormcloaks as he was returning to skyrim to join them anyway.

I joined the Stormcloaks not because of their ideals, I actually started to disagree with them halfway through the war quests. I joined them because at the beginning of the game the damn Imperials were going to cut my head off for nothing. So to hell with them, I'm gonna have my revenge. And I did. I won the war for the Stormcloaks, killed General Tullius with my own hand, then promptly lost interest in Ulfric and his rebellion. I had my revenge.

So you're saying that the Stormcloaks are fine with Daedra worship? I don't think that's true.

I agree that it's dumb to try to convince a player of a "right" answer, but it's fun to talk about the factions, their religions, their politics, and their hypocrises. It's certainly no more a "waste of time" than playing video games.

This is probably the single most brilliant thing about Skyrims story line.

The 'rebels' that you see in the beginning...yes most people just jump on that bandwagon because of the execution...ohhh but then you get to Windhelm, you listen to the solders, you hear conversations, and read.

Then it dawns on you, and if your not a Nord it dawns on you crystal clear.

The realization that this cause, this is not your cause, that your working towards your own demise...and you better get out of there fast.

It's brilliant, and I commend Bethesdas writers for giving us such a thought provoking shade of grey.

I am a Nord with blue eyes and blonde hair! so of course Ulfric treated me in great respect unlike those hideous redguards, elves, cats and lizards.
