Complete Character Design Freedom (Damage Resist Caps and Ri

This is a snippet of my "summing up" of what we know about weapon blocking in the beginning of this thread. Notice that Shield Charge is not on the list! :P

You did not brainfart, kind sir... after testing in-game just now, I can confirm Shield Charge does not work with 2handers. :)

Edit: Which makes sense, as the word "Shield" is in the name of the perk haha... but it's good to test in-game anyway, as names and descriptions in this game can be misleading.

On this subject, Deflect Arrows, Elemental Protection, and Block Runner all reference Shield use in their descriptions, but... (1) We know that Block Runner works with a Two-Hander; and (2) I've read from multiple sources that Deflect Arrows works with a Two-Hander as well (it's just really hard to block an arrow with a weapon). I wonder if Elemental Protection works with a Two-Hander as well?

If you're inclined to do further testing, an answer on Elemental Protection and confirmation on Deflect Arrows (even though it's impractical even if possible) would be much appreciated.

Well, I'll test it when I can, but you have to take both of those perks to get to Block Runner, which, as a 2H warrior, might be an excellent idea, as you have total mobility, even during time slowdowns when Quick Reflexes fires. Even if they don't work, it's still worth it to take them in order to get Block Runner... but it'd be nice if they did something for 2 Handers, wouldn't it? :)

PS I imagine that confirming arrow deflection works/doesn't will be a monumental annoyance. :P

On a related note, why are Dragon Priest masks Heavy Armor? Pure Mages can't use them because of the Mage Armor perk in Alteration, and Light Armor wearers can't use them because it breaks their set bonuses. Hopefully that can be fixed by a mod soon.

They aren't all Heavy armour; Krosis (20% Lockpick, Archery & Alchemy forts), Morokei (100% Magicka regen) and Volsung (20% sellprice, carry & waterbreathing) are all Light Armour. Morokei was http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3329 supposed to also include a 20% shout CD reduction but is bugged. Krosis is probably the only one worth using.

There is a mod that stops the head slot from being part of the calculation for things like Matching set & Mage Armor perk, but I don't recall the name & can't find it at the moment, but I will drop by with a link as soon as I track it back down again. [Edit: s'no good I can't find the bugger, mod detectives ahoy.]

Correct.

Thank you!

The above perk template gets you to the armor cap without a Shield.

Food for thought. Thank you again.

What's the formula for calculating damage reduction with active blocking? At 100 skill but no perks, how much additional damage reduction do you get, presuming you've already got 80% damage resistance from your armor or Dragonhide? What about if you have additional "Fortify Blocking" enchantments (say, a 47% on your shield, which seems the max without using glitches)?

Trying to figure out if fortify blocking enchantments are "worth it" at the high end.

With a shield and active blocking, you will have a variable percent based on shield material type. Daedric shields block more than iron ones do, for example. The numbers will vary from around 60% (hide shield or weapon) to around 80% (I think) for Daedric, when you have 100 block skill. Since the active blocking cap is 85%, just having a high skill with no perks will do just fine if you go Daedric. With a weapon, you will need fortify enchants or 4 levels of Shield Wall to hit the cap.

Yup. Cheshyr and Domilasa are nerding out in the new Star Wars MMO, and we may never see them again! :(

There's quite a bit of info that needs to be updated into the thread guide. We've filled out Blocking and weapon styles since Cheshyr last fiddled with it, and we also need to make the list of useless/pointless combat perks to avoid, and misleading info in the in-game loading tips.

What? Don't look at me! I ain't doing it! :)
