Yup, character customization is more elaborate in Skyrim than in previous titles. Though, its the numbers and stats and dice rolls that make an RPG to some people. Personally, I like making a unique character that actually requires real thought and planning vs the old system where you could be a master of everything and obtain 100 in every stat except luck.
As do I. Sure, I would kill for the option to either have attributes you can raise like Oblivion (just less horribly broken), but could see why people who don't like micromanagement would want them nonexistent or vanity stats based on your skills.

One of my favorite parts of Oblivion was having a Mage that ran faster than a speeding bullet or having an assassin with enough health and encumbrance to take on the whole realm of Oblivion and survive, with plenty of space left in the inventory to raid a town before selling the gear.

100% magicka cost is an exploit at best, Beth probably just overlooked it. And besides, it only works for one skill, say 0% cost for Destruction, but the other two spell effects would still use magicka.

They'll probably cap it in the next game, if they allow it, I'll agree.

That, and, I don't think it works like that. I mean, in oblivion, created spells just used the school of their first effect, didn't they?

Regardless, outside of those 3+ effect spells, you can already use the equivalent of almost any spell you could create. I'll cede you have a point with those +3 effect spells, though.
