This Series Is Spiraling Out Of Control. Please Stop Dumbing

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 7:33 am

Less armor pieces, gutted attributes, cut spellmaking, snipped the arena, trashed first person horse riding, cities are getting smaller, questlines are getting shorter, the coding in general is still embarrassing, skills continue to dwindle, and the list sadly goes on...

This series future is very questionable at this rate. It'll be nothing more then an action game if this continues. Skyrim is as shallow a RPG as you can get. Go back to the drawing board Bethesda. Save this once cherished franchise.

On the bright side, we have Health, Magicka, and Stamina to define our characters!

This is the best game in the series to date imo. It's certainly not worse than any of the previous ones. And people seem to agree, given that it's already won a GoTY award.

I've played far shallower RPGs (Fable III, I'm looking at you)

I'm loving every minute I get to play of Skyrim... I wish my parents would stop hogging the TV.

Every TES game gets that award.

People agree it's the best because it won GotY? Skyrim's award is more meaningful then Morrowind's and Oblivion's?

As a 20 year PC gaming vet I have to laugh at these threads. There was nothing in Morrowind or Daggerfall that was complex, I reached max level in both of those games in under 3 days and reached a point where nothing could hurt me.

Elder Scrolls has never been complex, EVER. If you want a complex game go play Master of Orion II or III and get back to me. Go play EVE. Thats "complexity" at its finest. I play all of those games but never have I felt like the Elder Scrolls series has been complex. Skyrim is an improvement because atleast the combat and character limits (via perks) have made it harder to break the game. In Morrowind, I could break the game without having to leave the starting town, EASY.

There's nothing wrong with action games. I love them. Look at the things that have been gutted though. This is not the RPG it used to be and it never will be again at this rate.

They agree that it's not worse lol. The previous game (probably Fallout 3 actually but whatever) is the standard that it's being judged by, if it didn't live up to that it wouldn't win the award now would it?

I'm not debating this with you. It's a better game than Oblivion, it's a better game than Morrowind. It just is. If you don't want to believe that, that's on you, but you're missing out.

Not a fan of the cutting. In fact, the announced cut features made me get a gaming rig for mods.

I'm not missing out on anything. I've clocked in 135 hours thus far. I've played every game in this series. Skyrim is a joke compared to Daggerfall.

Just think of it this way. If you were a big fan of halo, but they started making RTSs as part of the main series of games and never made an FPS again, would that please you?

Anyone who thinks Morrowind was hard is [censored], it was one of the easiest games to complete once you got over the learning curve (which took me about 2 hours).

TES has never been complex.

Skyrim is very complex and one of the best games in the series for many aspects of the game. World design, some of their systems they set up, dynamic happenings, dugneon design, etc

However the RPG side of things is one of the worst in the series, but the general gameplay is better and the RPG aspects aren't so bad that they totally break the game. They are just poorly balanced or poorly paced. However I happen to find the above things (world design, etc) more important than the perfect RPG gameplay system on earth, so I don't see it as a total failure or anything.

Lol really? Skyrim is a joke compared to a game that used sprites? Please say "gameplay > graphics" so I can facepalm. I haven't done it in a while.

You spend more time in Skyrim in the favorites menu than you did in any menu in any other ES.
