BETHESDA RAGE!

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 4:42 am

Why do I never experience any of these glitches people scream about? I want to come onto the forums and angrily post a topic titled in all caps like it's my own private Bethesda-summoning Bat Signal to fix my obscure problems.

I got the "you can never ever finish the Civil War quest on either side" today.

Or Arena. I buy my games for pc only, I don't know how Xbox or PS3 users deal. That said, I do believe that Bethesda is trying harder this time to repair bugs.
I do too. They left Morrowind a mess, and Oblivion still has many broken quests. Skyrim is still in the patching process. It has already gotten more attention than Morrowind and Oblivion.

I've logged 100hrs + and had 1 or 2 crashes on my xbox. I have a very capable PC but I decided on the console version. A project of this size and the negitive stability reviews made me think tis game would be a nightmare but thats just hatin'

I stopped reading when the OP referred to "story mode". That pretty much tells me all I need to know.

In a game like this you should expect a crapload of bugs...

troll.

And that's why I allow the four autosaves, as well. Because I did have some freezing and stuttering with unpatched Oblivion and needed to save often.

Whoa, deja vu. I remember after Oblivion there was a guy who got stuck in a stalagmite after several hours without saving.

well that was my modus operandi in OB, FO3, FONV and skyrim (at first) also. but leaving autosaves on here (ps3) is one sure fire way to crash my ps3 repeatedly.

Notice to all console users(and Beth)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8teW5icV0k

You have no more excuses for being "trapped" or "stuck" somewhere with no way to continue

That is all
What a trip. That's a new one by me. Look closely, though: He ran through the wall but the game world wasn't rendered on the other side. This glitch would only be useful if the area you are trying to reach is in the same cell.

You shouldn't rely on autosaves, as they often corrupt. Autosaves should really only be back-ups. I keep 4-5 manual save files per character

The "Final" patch for Oblivion was an insult.

A nordic puzzle door would be perfect, since they don't trigger loading screens. So, for the OP, if this works, it's a solution.

And not just for dungeons, think of the merchants chests. I found a way beneath the ragged flagon to those 6 chests with my wooden plate

As a software engineer, I know it's virtually impossible to exhaustively test any non-trivial program and these games definitely qualify. In our world, safety critical systems are tested as much as they can be and there are restrictions on the process to ensure (as much as possible) that there are no bugs that can actually kill someone. Even so you can never be sure -- it's just too complex. In a game, bugs are annoying, but not actually dangerous to life or even property. They can go on testing forever and still not get the last bug out. The only real way to do this is to have a good process and good people and make a good judgement on when to release. Skyrim seems to be about right to me. Fallout 3 had a few too many lockups for my taste.

It might be worth considering how a user having a problem could send their bugs (along with a game save) to Bethesda through the internet (even using PS3 and XB360s) so that they can find their bugs easier. The trouble is to really get the right data, you'd have to detect the problem and dump the file somewhere the user could send it (or send it automatically if the user gave permission). Or if it is a quest problem, you could send a game save any time. But Bethesda isn't on the hook to solve those problems in the same way as we are on the hook to the government. Ever wonder why government contracts are so expensive? Partly it's all the process and checks and testing and accountability that go with them.

I had the same problem at that door. I found a fix listed on one of the Wikis which was to save there, turn off the system, turn it back on and reload that save. Worked for me on the first try. I had another door do exactly the same thing. I can see how they could easily miss these bugs in testing because I've only had each of those once in 4 playthroughs. These games are massive. There's no way they're going to find every bug.

Thanks for the advice but I did that a bunch of times it wouldn't work for me. I worked at it for 2 hours but nothing worked. Hence this rant

Try the plate. Wouldn't it be awesome if a bug fixes your bug?

This developer is the worst in the business. How can they get away with the literal 1000's of glitches and bugs that can kill and shut down an entire story mode and even render a player stuck for good. This never would and flied 10 years ago when developers didn't have the luxuries of sending patches to consoles. Anyone remember GTA 3? SUPER BUGGY but not as bad as this game. Atleast people were able to complete the missions. With this game they leave your totally screwed with no lube. Why spend the money on them if they can't spend the money on you and test the game before releasing it to ensure its players have an enjoyable time. You maybe asking yourself "why is this Guy so pissed off?" Well I am stuck infringement of a puzzle door on a quest called "Tending the flame" I have posted a distress call on the glitches and bugs form and have a solution was given to me through wiki. Oh wow!! The wiki reads " 360 When solving the ruby claw sealed door, the door may react that you've gotten it wrong even though your have entered the right solution, thus rendering you stuck forever. No known fixes.
Patch 1.4 fixed this issue." HOW CRAZY IS THAT!?! Crazy because I have the latest patch installed that claims to fix this issue and yet it does nothing!! The developer can't even test it's own patches to ensure they work properly and do what they claim to do. Epic fail! I will never purchase a game from Bethesda ever again

This happened to me and it is because you touched (tried activating) the magically sealed door before you got the ghost guy to open it for you. Reload a save before you touched the door and it should work, it did for me.

I hear you OP, I'm pissed off as well. The issues that you are listing are barely even the tip of the iceberg. The bloated memory size bug, the atomic nirnroot bug, PS3 versions are still lag crazy, etc. I don't see how Beth is going to survive this one if the issues aren't fixed. I can deal with bugs but not bugs that destroy save files, quests and cause freezes, all of these things that Skyrim has.
Dozens of games on the PS3 have bloated saves issues. It's Sony's problem, not Bethesda's. Maybe they shouldn't use such an obscure system that can't handle ports from other systems?

This thread badly needs to be cleaned up. With all the Trolling and Flaming and Spam and whatnot flying around.

However, since this thread has no real merit, I will just close it and leave it in the mess as is.
