Bottom 5 of Skyrim; What do you dislike the most?

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 6:57 am

Small Amount of Spells compared to Oblivion and Morrowind.

No Spellcrafting: Good bye Freezer Burn (Fire damage and Frost damage at the same time)

Empty Holds:

Lackluster Cities. (small main cities.) No buildings it feels like there are no buildings, it just feels like walled villages.

Is it so hard to add GENERIC Npcs like farmer and mercenary in these cities? They did so for random encounters.

I had fun with NV, jsut after I did everything I ran out of things to do.

But even so I think "everything" for New Vegas is bigger than "everything" for Skyrim. New Vegas offers more quests (hand-made ones) and the RPG elements mean each character feels different, so there IS incentive to replay the game, support a different army and focus on different perks and unique weapons.

And hell one could even make the argument that "everything" in FO3 is bigger than "everything" in Skyrim.

New Vegas did an excellent job in story writing, RPG elements, character balance (YES, you do want character balance, even for single player RPGs. It extends replay value) and NPC depth/interaction, particularly with the companions.
FO3 did an excellent job with exploration, providing action and combat, and making the world feel dynamic.

While both of those provide very strong tools and exceed at what they're good at, Skyrim seems to fall flat in all-of-the-above. Not to say that Skyrim is particularly bad at all of those, but that it seems to not be as good at any of those as FO3 and New Vegas were, which is disappointing.
Maybe Dawnguard will improve on this. I mean hell, it looks like we at least get to make choices with consequences there.

1. Lack of crafting staves (granted, Oblivion svcked for this--Morrowind was much better--but at least you had the option of obtaining a powerful destruction staff by some direct method, not crossing our fingers for a rare or non-existent enemy drop or loot). On a related note, we should have the option of crafting BOTH rocket launcher type staves we got in Oblivion and the enchanting beating sticks we had back in Morrowind

2. Poor implementation of jewelry crafting in smithing: we can make a gold ruby necklace but not gold ruby ring? A silver sapphire necklace but not a silver sapphire ring? And somehow moonstone and onyx are only given for circlets, never rings or necklaces, and under no circumstances can i smith a circlet? Really?

3. Poor implementation of extant destruction spells. (Runes are only useful until about lvl 30 or so d/t low damage vs. enemy leveled HP. The in-game description for wall-type spells claims the damage output is something like 50 points per second, but anyone who has tried this in game can tell immediately this is not accurate--just compare the damage done with an equivalently strong missile spell that does the same damage. I read someone who claimed to test this on PC found it was closer to 24 points / second...)

4. Lack of spellcrafting / destruction scaling (either one might not be so bad, but both together = crap playing exp.)

5. Not enough variety in clothes, robes, etc.

i agree. The Fallout games have a large amount of depth in their game content. i can't really say that for Skyrim tbh.

I wish I felt the same. The quests just made me want to fall asleep.

Saying that because someone decided that they enjoyed/liked Fallout: New Vegas, that means that they're fan boys (and by implication their opinions are somehow less considered/valuable) is not a classy move. Especially coming from someone with Morrowind #1! in his signature. I'm sure that if you've ever participated in a 'Why Morrowind was so great' discussion you've been told your opinion doesn't count because of 'nostalgia'...so let's raise the discourse a bit.

Edit: Thank you for editing the fan boy reference from your post ^

1. Extremely short, shallow factions. Not near enough of them. Not near enough variety in factions. Continued the Oblivion trend of factions being obsessive organizations i.e. Oblivion Fighter's Guild: 'We hate the Blackwood Company' to Skyrim Companions: 'We hate the Silverhand'. Not enough of the factions actually doing what their charter says they should do... Why don't the companions do more mercenary work? Maybe you need to decide if you'll take contracts from Imperials, or Stormcloaks, or both and then that opens up further options. Why don't you have any opposition or rival to moving up in the ranks? Why do you become privy to the Companion's darkest, most abominable secret after knowing them for two hours?

2. No Spellmaking...crappy, limited magic compared to previous installments

3. No attributes/stats/the revamped character creation in general. Races don't have as many meaningful differences. Less skills, less choices in how I begin my character.

4. Weak writing and quest design for a large amount of the game. There are some gems (Ill-met by Moonlight, the murder mystery in Morthal, the murderer in Windhelm), but overwhelmingly they've relied too much on the unsatisfying 'Radiant Quest'/'Radiant Story' stuff.

5. In general there's just not as much interesting stuff to do. I feel that each game is 'Do the Main Quest', 'Do the 1-2 factions applicable to your character, or else branch out and, absurdly, become the Harbinger, Archmage, Listener, Nightingale, and Mega-Bard all at once, and then scavenge for quests around the world. There just needs to be more organizations, more lengthy quest-lines.

6. I'll throw an extra one in. I hate the pacing of this game: You are being executed for the crime of being within 1 mile of Ulfric Stor- OH MY GOD A DRAGON! OH MY GOD TELL THE JARL! OH MY GOD HELP US KILL THE DRAGON! OH MY GOD GREYBEARDS SUMMON YOU THROUGH VOICE IN SKY. Take it easy. I don't want to rush off and have to feel like the world is waiting on me to save it. In Morrowind I get off the boat, get directed to Caius Cosades, he tells me I'm a noob and hands me a few gold to get some training and do other things until I'm pro enough to go talk to Hasphat Antabolis about a certain puzzle box. Too much hand-holding, and making the player feel like Mr. Special right from the get-go.

So much of this.

1: the blades questline! i want to kill those stupid blades
2: my personal spiders i hate them
3: a other main quest with other races (yes it probally takes long time to make it but it will be more fun to make a new character and i made 13 characters so far)
4:the civil war its only fighting and talking it would be more fun to be a rank.. like high skill in archery you go with a small squad to kill them in the back (wow im going call of duty  )
or like a scouter
i dont have a five because i love this game and im playing it right now :drag:

I don't have a list of things I dislike, but here's what I would change if I could:

1: Becoming a Werewolf. I like playing as a werewolf but would like to become one without joining a faction.

2: Sheogorath. I think he looked better in Oblivion.

3: Recognition. No one seems to care about me defeating Alduin or doing other things of great importance.

4: Riding a horse. I would like a first person view.

5: Missing magic. It seems Skyrim has a lot less magic than Oblivion did.

That's all. I think Skyrim is one of the best games ever made and can't wait for Dawnguard!
