...This is a joke, right?

Everything works fine for me.
Granted on my last character I couldn't get Hjerm but its nothing to restart over.
Man up.

Restarting a character multiple times instead of quitting, in my day, WAS manning up. I don't know what the kids now call manning up, but I'm going to bet it has something to do with watching SpongeBob with their girlfriend. One of em anyway...

I've done Blood On The Ice around 8 seperate times and I've never had it bug whatsoever, I don't see what's broken with it now that they've even patched it. Only problem I have with it is the chets in Hjerim by my bed never shows up, but that's besides the point.

Use UESP and follow the directions precisely (it tells you how to avoid every possible bug) and you shouldn't have a problem, unless you're TRYING to go out of your way to break it. (Which would be silly)

I thought I mentioned it in the first post, but perhaps I didn't. So let me re-iterate...

I followed every guide known to Google and the UESP in order to keep BOTI from breaking, and it broke anyway. See the thing about guides is that, in order for them to work, things would have to be consistent in their execution. Well... Bethesda's weird way of making things function is Legendary at this point, so I'm sure you're aware of the fact that following a guide doesn't necessarily mean something is going to work, even if has no logical reason not to.

Besides, BOTI is completely irrelevant to the problem at hand.

That was a very entertaining post lol. I feel your pain. I can't play for 10 minutes without running into a bug, or glitch, or texture problem. Beware, though, the people who think Skyrim is the best game to "bless" this earth will jump all over you for insulting their god (Bethesda).

Yeah I was ready for it when I made the post. Like I mentioned though, as a member of the Fighting Game Community, people around here have a toddler level of troll ability by comparison. That's why I'm still "joking in a concerned manner" with people completely missing the point lol.

Well that would be all fine and dandy if I wanted to throw all of my hard-earned (it's [censored] pathetic I have to say hard-earned instead of fun) roleplaying out the window. The character that apparently just isn't meant to exist has a brother that owns Proudspire Manor already. Annnd all the other houses are spoken for as well. Regardless, I already have my house. Now I want my [censored] horse, but it looks like a simple SPAWNING TRIGGER was a little too damn difficult to code properly -.-
if you already have a horse it'll glitch shadowmere. In the even shadowmere does glitch, don't reset. Just do a fast travel to each of the stables then return to the sanctuary. Works for me every single time that Shadowmere glitches. wich so far is twice out of about 15 or more characters

" Blood on the ice " wouldn't start for me in much the same manner as you OP, there where no NPC's beside the body in the graveyard. To solve this I tracked down the old woman who's posting the flyers every where and had a chat with her which in turn started the quest. Then the Thain guy wouldn't talk to me to push the quest forward to where you need to get into the house, to solve this all I did was break into the house my self hand followed the clues as normal, which forced the quest forward again.

Now on two attempts from the last 1/4 of the quest the damn thing would stick on me again at the part where you point out a certain someone to be arrested out of Ulfric's place. I had to reload the autosave from just before and instead of talking to the Thain guy I went to the wizard and then continued from there, there are two ways to end the quest but I wont spoil it but it did work from that point on and I have had it work ever since as long as I do it the same way as above.

As for shadowmere I don't really know what's happening there, it kind of seems like the script just didn't kick in which would lead me to think a reload would solve it. But you said you tried a reload, so, hmmmmmmm, you get nothing as an action option when standing in the pool ? As in you cannot see Shadowmere but you can activate him.

All the known methods of starting BOTI still seem to be hit or miss. Obviously, mostly miss for me. Talking to any and everyone involved with the quest as well as going into Hjerim attempting to start it by "activating" the evidence did absolutely nothing.

As for Shadowmere, there's no option to activate. He doesn't show up at all. There's no invisible body to run into or anything. There's just nothing there but the infinitely interesting Black Bubbles of Broken Spawning Trigger lol.

I mentioned it somewhere (first post I thought) that I did NOT own a horse and that I had been to every stable already. Nothing worked. Still just interesting black bubbles at the pool.

I did this by both going stable -> stable -> stable etc and back to the Sanctuary as well as going stable -> Sanctuary -> stable -> Sanctuary etc. No dice.

Collette won't offer the master restoration quest until after completing Good Intentions in the college questline.

FINALLY

I GOT SHADOWMERE TO SPAWN.

I did another loop of fast traveling to every stable again and, yet again, it failed.

Reloaded save

Did yet another loop of fast traveling to every stable, BUT in a different order. This time I ended in Whiterun (went clockwise instead of counter-clockwise Markarth -> Solitude, etc) before going back to Sanctuary, and it worked!

Also, this time, after Astrid was done talking I asked "Did anything set Cicero off?" and also spoke to Gabriella again before leaving. As per usual after walking outside and approaching the black pool, after the galloping sound and "Behold Shadowmere" completed, nothing was there.

After that I starting by fast traveling to Markarth's Stable, then Solitude's, etc and ENDING by fast traveling to Whiterun's stable. Instead of fast traveling back to the Sanctuary, this time I RAN all the way there. And Shadowmere was standing there.

So here we at least have another somewhat functioning method of avoiding a glitch that still shouldn't exist in the first place, but at least it's something I suppose.

You really had to buy this Hjerim really really bad aye?

And why are you having such bad luck with glitches and [censored]? One playthrough on my Xbox and I haven't ran into as much [censored] as you say you have..

I have no idea. I played Morrowind and quit because of its legendary glitchtasticness. Played Oblivion and never had a problem. And now Skyrim... it's like everything I missed in Oblivion came back and doubled -.-
