Weapon realism

I remember those Muties who can take a whole lot of bullets to the face before their faces become crippled, Another thing how exactly does your face become "crippled"? lol

Well, if you ever got your own head "crippled" in FO3, you'd know that it starts giving you dizzy spells and problems with focus and vision. So, in the case of the head "crippled is somewhere between a concussion and a skull fracture.

Thing is though to be accurate to real life with pistols the last shot fire the slide would be locked all the way back. You slide a magazine in (not clip) the bottom of the pistol once its in you pull a slide lever down on the side to release the slide. The slide slides forward chambering the first round and its ready to go.

Personally I say screw that because that would be extra animation to do not to mention it doesnt really change the story. Just like the graphics doesnt change the story.

This.

Technically their not. To be specific a magazine is a cartridge container of a gun. What you call a clip for a pistol is the cartridge container of that gun so it is a magazine.

A clip on the other hand for example my M1891/30 rifle has what is called Stripper clips or just clips. This is a true clip it holds 5 bullets that you place into a receiver atop the rifle and you press the 5 cartridges to transfer them from the "clip" to the magazine of the rifle. So a clip and a magazine are two different things, its just that people have gotten so used to calling anything detachable a clip that they think it is correct when in fact technically their all magazines.

To put it bluntly and specific, clips are how cartridges come when you unbox them, you then use the clips of cartridges to then load up the magazines of your weapon be it a pistol or rifle with detachable magazines or a rifle like mine with a intregal magazine. The spamcan (a metal can of 440 rounds) that I get comes with every 5 cartridges prefixed to a stripper clip or clip. There are 4 clips per paper wraping (20 cartridges).

Point is though calling magazines clips does bother people that deal with guns because its not the correct terminology. Its like kids pronouncing N.O.S. as NAWZ when its an acryonym for the Nitrous Oxide System company and their ads say N - O - S is their name not NAWZ as the kidiots call it.

Its not really a big deal but it does upset some people to hear things mislabeled.

Roompert I didnt do the (not a clip) part to mean you were wrong. I put it in because clips and magazines are two different things and it gets old to see others call magazines clips. I was putting it there for other people to see with the hopes that the correct terminology would catch on. I guess thats just wishful thinking since these firstperson shooters got kids saying clips so much that they think magazines are clips.

This

Thank goodness!

Who else is tired of a guy with no helmet/armor on their head taking a 3 round burst with of 5.56mm to the face and walking it off like nothing happened?

Its an RPG, not a realistic FPS. There are not supposed to be insta-kills from a headshot (unless the weapon is powerful enough of course).

Now you know there were instant kills in Fallout with various weapons including unarmed melee...
(but they were not guaranteed to happen)

*edit: and they were a factor of PC skill.

Yes, either from sneak attack criticals, criticals, or from a powerful weapon able to kill the enemy in one hit. What I mean is that there should not be a insta-kill because I got a headshot on a raider with a .32 pistol (unless of course its a critical hit).

The most common complaint about this seems to stem from the easy mistake that the gun was clearly dead center, and the target didn't even fall down.... but in all of the previous [Fallout] games the shot was absolutely never guaranteed to be center (even for experts at point blank). Shots to the head that hit may well have been nicks to the ear or scratches across the side. Because its an RPG, the guns FPP position is only in general (regardless of proximity).

**Separate from the above point... this is a big part of why RPG's should not be First Person games IMO; because its awkward no matter how you show it, and actually jarring to the suspension of disbelief.

omg i wish whenever a thread with the title realistic or realism came up it to get locked and deleted and the person who posted it gets banned, except if its about people who dont want uber realism in there fallout. its becoming insane with all these threads every day about it, to people who want realism this is not your game!, if you want realism go play another game . fallout is not realistic which is a great, thing if it was realistic it would be boring very very boring, why do you want it to be more like real life anyway,
and to just point out about the guns and how they reload and stuff in games i cant think of one game that has fully realistic gun animations that compare to real life so why would a sci fi RPG be the first one to have realistic animations/guns
it being more unrealistic means more fun,its a retro 50s style futuristic sci fi post apocalyptic RPG!!!..... not a sim
and there is hardcoe mode now isnt that enough?...

wow i said realisc alot in this post

I would want it as realistic as possible (while still being fun). So minor aspects could/ or should be assumed, and or done automatically.
Guess what... This includes eating and drinking. The early Fallouts had dehydration and the option to eat, but the game handled this on it's own.

*** Edit:
There is something to say about RPG's that do require eating (and do it well) ~like Arx Fatalis; but I do think that in Fallout food & drink should be optional.
(and it will be interesting for me to investigate whether those can be disabled in hardcoe mode via a mod)
