1st person 99% of the time.

I use 3rd only when i need it (i.e. to cast some spell and see the graphics effects or to see my breton female character butt  apart from joke,to see in general my character aspect 'cause we have no more that Oblivion thing...)

Indeed the 3rd person is still bad implemented in this game (even if better than oblivion and Fallout3)

the animations are mediocre and the Pc seems made of wood rather than flesh and blood

I play both, but strangely enough, I've played 3rd person as a mage about 80% of the time. My fighter probably only about 20%. It should have been the other way around.

i always try to use 3rd person. but picking up smaller items, fighting, bows i use first. i dont like the fighting though, it doesnt feel like im actually hitting them is why i normally go first person. and for bows it gets me a better/clearer picture of the target. and small items is obvious.

I usually go 1st person in dungeons or cities (when I'm looking /talking with NPC and such). Pretty much never fight in 3rd person.

3rd person I like when I'm traveling, often back the zoom way out and can see the landscape around my character too.

Mixed views about this.

Personally I played in 1st person. Felt like I was looking through the eyes of my character as they participated in their daily lives.

However, I started play Mass Effect and it is in 3rd person, which I loved regardless. But I think i'll stick to 1st person for TES ;)

I play only first person. I'm an old guy, I have no need to play with dolls. I have deleted third person games I bought by mistake, most recently Alan Wake. I just hate third person combat.

Say what? You guys are missing on on a whole lot of great games. I'm guessing you guys both play with controllers, am I right?
This guy I can agree with.

I have been playing 1st person since Wolfenstein 3D. 3rd person is fine for arcade style shoot-em ups but it's clumsy and lacks immersion.
I don't follow. You are right, but....?

I will bend for some...well, 1 so far. DEX Rev is the ONLY one. If not for the stealth attacks, I would have never picked it up. These other games you are talking about...I assume you mean games like CODooty and the like? Or that Island game...well there are 2 strikes there, (1) 1stP only, but the big kicker is (2) "Zombies" I will not play a game that is just fighting "Zombies". I am "Zombied" to death. I am no fan of shooters, per se. However, I will run FO and ME. It is the RPG that sways them to be on the list.

As a general rule, I find that third-person (and sidescrolling) is better suited to a controller, while first-person (and top down / isometric) is much more suited to a mouse & keyboard. So action-adventure games, fighting games, platformers, and racing games tend to be better suited to a controller... while first-person shooters, RPGs, strategy games, and point & click adventure games tend to be better suited to a mouse & keyboard.

It's a fairly reasonable assumption that a lot (not all) of the people who say third-person is so much better are playing with a controller.

I play in third person when I'm travelling somewhere, and I zoom as far out as I can. Like when I'm walking across the plains or strolling through town. I just like the look of it. Although, when in combat, I always switch to first person. Just seems easier.

I use first person. It works better for Roleplay aspects.

Like writing first person of POV you are the character and third person POV you're following the character. So, first person I use because I roleplay.

I prefer the third person and auto-walk when I'm traveling. Sometimes I fight random encounters in the third person. But I really prefer first person for dungeons and most fights.

Almost always first person, because it feels better. I'm not gonna tell you why it feels better though, the outcome of that won't turn out that great.
Although in Fallout 3 and New Vegas I mutually use first and third person.

Like everyone else I use both. I used to only play in 3rd person and I never remembered why I liked it so much. Now when I am traveling I rock out 3rd and everything else I need the extra help on knowing where I am swinging or shooting.

If I'm using a shield/sword warrior, I play exclusively in 3rd person. With my mage, I will sometimes switch to 1st depending on what magic I feel like using. If I'm conjuring lots of stuff or using area-based destruction magic, I will stay in 3rd person.

I never walk around in 1st person.

Going back to Oblivion, it was nearly impossible to play in third-person. Thats a thing I'm glad they improved in Skyrim, as it seems many players do use it to some degree.

i cant stand 3rd person during combat(sword, arcane, bows). I only go to 3rd person when simply adventuring around.
