I prefer playing skyrim in third person instead of first per

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 8:28 am

I play in 1st person, I only play in 3rd the games that don't have 1st person

Likewise. I prefer 1st person > all. There's too much immersion playing from your POV. Only reason I ever go 3P is because I'm travelling, or, I'm looking for my horse (stretch the camera back). Other than that I'll play 1P.

You guys know you don't have to constantly look at your character for him to be "cool". I swear if there wasn't any weapons/magic in this game most of you would probably be happy just staring at yourself all day..

If they like staring at themself..who cares..as long as they're happy.

I like the models, textures, and animation. You play your way and I'll play mine. We all win.

It's the weirdest thing.

1st I gotta ask, what relevance does using a controller have to whether you play in 1st or 3rd person? I totally don't get that comment.

2nd I play this game almost exclusively in 1st person because I don't like how 3rd person works in this game or any of Beth's games for that matter. It's sloppy, the animations are poor, and it's difficult to target especially when picking up individual items. I also enjoy having the feeling that I'm in the world instead of hovering over my characters body.

Overall this is definitely a personal preference thing. Obviously some will play in 3rd and others in 1st. Otherwise why have the option even be available?

When playing in 3rd person, using WASD on a keyboard to control a character's movements often feels clunkier than using anolog sticks on a controller. Similarly, when playing in 1st person, using anolog sticks to aim precisely often feels more awkward than using a mouse.

It's no surprise then that a lot of people who favour 3rd person tend to use controllers, while a lot of people who favour 1st person tend to use a mouse & keyboard.

As posted above, I think as a general rule, third-person games (and sidescrolling games) are better suited to a controller, while first-person games (and top down / isometric games) are much more suited to a mouse & keyboard. So action-adventure games, fighting games, sports games, platformers, and racing games tend to be better suited to a controller... while first-person shooters, RPGs, strategy games, and point & click adventure games tend to be better suited to a mouse & keyboard.

I'm sure some people who swear by either a controller or mouse & keyboard will disagree and try and argue that their preferred device is best for all genres... but whatever.

I play in first person most of the time, and exclusively when in combat, as it just feels more natural. When walking around town or in the wilderness, I may switch to third person just to see my character, but when combat starts or I enter a dungeon, it's back to first person. I also switch to third person when absorbing dragon souls.

In general, playing in first person just feels more immersive, as I see everything as my character would, and I'm not constantly looking at their back. I got used to first person while playing shooters, and when I started playing Oblivion, it was a smooth transition. I feel less like a spectator, and more like I am my character, and adventuring in Skyrim through them as if I'm some kind of ghost that posessed them.
I agree. First person helps me to feel more immersed in the game.

I play in the third person. SOmething about seeing your character is too cool to pass up. I only go to first person when using a bow or searching areas.
this. I'm really surprised at how much I love 3rd person in skyrim. Going in I thought I'd only use it while walking around, but I find myself using it all the time. Except for bows, which I use rarely, and picking small things up.

I way prefer third person although I really like the abilty to switch back and forth. I use 1st for close examinations, ranged combat and some conversations but everything else is third. I am sooo much better at melee in third and enjoy it 100x more. I really like that we have the choice of 1st or 3rd at almost any time. My wife plays pretty much exclusively 1st person and we can both really enjoy the game.

Going back to Oblivion, it was nearly impossible to play in third-person. Thats a thing I'm glad they improved in Skyrim, as it seems many players do use it to some degree.

People say that but I never had any problem with playing in 3rd person and loving it. In fact I still do.. Melee combat in first person, however was pretty much suicide for me so I'll chaulk it up to individual people's limitations.

I always play in 1st person, although I can't see the swords doing the whole thing, makes me feel more "into" the character.

I am not my character, and I don't want to pretend that I am. I use third person for everything, except for archery.
Third person is just a tidbit more practical, especially in big fights when the character is cornered by enemies, in which the first person tube-view does no help to me.

This is all just my opinion, of course.

I only play games that are either third person or have the option to switch. 1st person has its uses but I would hate to have to use it all the time.

I do both, i wander the wilds and walk around town in 3rd person but switch to 1st person to fight.

I love TES because of the 1st person sword fighting but 3rd person looked horrible in previous games so i always stayed 1st.....now in skyrim i like to watch my guy roam but i still dont like 3rd person combat

I also hate talking in 1st person because the eye level is chest level and i hate being talked down to by a shorter character

Too hard to aim in third person view, unless you have a auto fighting system, so I play in first.

I'm quite sure i am not the only one, right?
90% of the time I use third person (I might not have purchased the game if I didn't have the option). I use 1st at times simply for scouting purposes or when I'm having trouble finding something specific.
