PS3 Release for Dawnguard - Thread #28

Post » Sun Nov 18, 2012 4:45 am

What causes the yellow light of death becaue my fatty is five years old and I think it might be on it's last legs.
Time. I got mine back in 2008. It burned out mid this year. It could be a list of possible things; HDD failure, overheating, GPU failure, power supply failure.

If one thinks about it, Bethesda is in a wicked time crunch right now. If they want to release a GOTY or Ultimate Edition or whatever else they want to call it, they don't have that long to do so. The game was released 11/11/11, next month it will be one year old. They need to put together their GOTY and still release all of the DLC before hand, all the while still looking like they are working on the PS3 version of the game. If other games are any kind of a pattern, I don't think they would have intended to release just two or three DLC packs, one of which is a glorified Sims knock off. It's a position I don't envy, but think they deserve to be in.

Like others have stated, as far as the Dragonborn thing on the PS3, if they release it I will take my sweet time in considering it's purchase. I will make sure that plenty of guinea pigs play it to completion (if they can before the game breaks) and then read their reviews before I think about buying it. I have had enough of wasting money on a DLC that throws my game into an unplayable state to make that mistake again. Not to mention if Bethesda even thinks of charging full price for anything Skyrim related on the PS3 after the lies and disrespect I will calmly flip them the bird and give my business to another company.

Well, I'm thinking there is a reason the blog has been mostly fluff pieces and posts pushing Dishonored lately. They are waiting for us to forget and get in a frenzy over their new game. Like I've said before, when they announce the next Fallout title Skyrim will be done. The blog will be full of enthusiastic posts advertising the new game and, of course, the supporting fluff pieces. Again, they will try to make everyone foam at the mouth in anticipation of buying the new game and Skyrim will be left broken. It has worked for them in the past, they think it will work again. It's a wash, rinse, repeat business model and frankly is insulting to my intelligence.

So far, some blog posts on the net point to lower PS3 sales for Dishonored than other games they have published in the past. Maybe, just maybe, PS3 users are starting to learn what kind of company Bethesda really is when it comes to the PS3 console. I am kind of looking forward to the sales figures of the next Fallout title. I am curious to see if PS3 users will fall for it again, or if we will hold to our convictions and refuse to purchase the game, hopefully sending Bethesda a message.

A number of things could happen, but most are avoidable. Really, the only thing that would create a YLOD is misuse over time. Take care of your electronics properly with consistent attention and maitenance, and you should almost never have problems with overheating or component failure. The exception is the BRD itself, that can fail for numerous reasons that have nothing to do with how well you maintain the system.

Plus, having additional cooling sources is helpful with these units. Invest in a cheap external cooler and you'll be doing yourself a huge favor. Constantly monitor the dust and debris that could fall into the vents (I keep mine upright, so this is a concern) and overall just keep the area clean where it is stored. Do all that you can to properly shut down the unit with the touch power button and not the power source switch in the back. Every once in a while this is unavoidable.

Just like any other computer, take care of it and maintain it and it'll last a long time.

Of course, when one plays a Bethesda title, use of the power switch in the back becomes a necessity.

The biggest issue is Sony using crappy thermal patse. It's almost exactly the same thing that causes the 360's RROD. Putting new thermal paste in could potentially save your system.

Mine recently quit reading blu-rays so i ordered a new laser for it. Not knowing how long it would last I went and got a new 120g slim and was going to use the old fat clunker for back up.

So thinking maybe, just maybe the new one would run Skyrim better i loaded it up and it did! for about the first hour before it froze and crashed.

Popped it back in the old one with the new laser and same crap.

Boy was I stupid to think it would work.

why the hell would bethesda bring out a new game knowing that PS3 users will pay the same amount of money as XBOX users but still get completly ripped off because once again we (PS3 users) will get no DLC and no added features, they also say that they cant find a solution to the matter well i have an idea how about you release Dawnguard and Heartfire as stand alone discs for PS3 and just add new quests on top and make is like a new game and not leave us (PS3 users) with a big fat nothing...im level 80 in skyrim on PS3 i paid $110 for it the first day of release so why should i have to pay $399.99 to get a XBOX 360 Skyrim game and the DLC??? STOP RIPPING US OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

they should just release Dawnguard and Heartfire on disc and just add extra quests and content on that like Rockstar did with RDR Undead Nightmare

Won't happen. Dawnguard and Hearthfire use everything Skyrim already has to run. The problems that they are having are with the engine, and coding. Even if they attempted to do that, they would be having the exact same problems.

Even still, Undead Nightmare on disc wasn't released until months after it was released on PSN. Plus they had 3 DLC's prior to that (1 was free).
