Question for immersionRP diehards.

Post » Sat May 19, 2012 1:38 pm

So for those of you who're really into the realism with regard to immersion and RP, I have a question. Do you limit yourself to a realistic amount of gear that you can carry on you at one time?

No.

But I only loot small items. I just allow myself to carry stupid amounts of them.

Yup. No carrying 11 swords for me.

On the other hand... I'm fine with carrying an upwards of 10-15 potions, because I found that my mage was dying too easily in combat. I guess this can be justified if you think of potions as coming in tiny vials.

I do indeed... So damned hard seeing some ebony armour in a chest for the first time and having to completely ignore it because it would be unrealistic to take it with you and out of character to actually wear it... :cryvaultboy:

No, but I do limit the amount of running my char does (no running up hills or into the unknown, after battles, in town, that kind of thing)

Out of character in what way?
E.g. a character that doesn't wear heavy armor.

I only carry one set of armour (the one i'm wearing), one sword, a bow, arrows, and a dagger at a time. All other weapons and armour are stored in one of my houses.

I didn't so far but now that you mention it ... I always found it too easy to get gold in this game, but restricting this might actually be a great idea. Thanks for this.

Although I definetly will pick up items that I want to have - My argonian will find a way to carry it. But not the common stuff thats just for selling.

@Sheogorath, that's not quite what I mean. I mean do you pick up all the loot you can while out adventuring/dungeoning. It isn't realistic for someone to be able to carry all of that around with them.

Ha, you're welcome Selena.

Depends on the character.
Not all my characters are roleplaying ones.

As a matter of fact I do. On that note, I find it strange they didn't implement bags to put on our horses. Some situations make it perfectly plausible to tie the horse on a tree near the entrance of a given place and just make trips to load it with the more heavy stuff. Bothers me not having something like that implemented in vanilla version so RPers could enjoy it .

But then again, we're talking about a system that makes all characters begin with the same stats, and we're limited with tinkering with Magic/Health/Stamina. I love TES and don't think Skyrim is a failure at all, but it's becoming less and less of an RP experience. It's too bland on that respect. I miss stats, even if the overall experience is still a very pleasant one.

I never thought about it. I guess I can imagine my char dragging two suits of armor behind her, but I can't relate to the jock mentality.

I do limit myself ... yes. I also force myself to sleep and eat 3 times a day.
I wish the game would have a more realistic set to it.

No, but I should. Carrying 400 and a ridicculous amount of little over 200k gold coins and still complaining to myself that it's too few... I imagine what would it look like.

No. I take everything that isn’t tied down! Most of my characters are the adventuring sort but are also out to make some honest gold as well. I’m a goody-two-shoes most of the time because frankly, there’s not really enough valuable or cool stuff to motivate me to play a thief. So, even though I understand my play styles don’t necessarily jive with the hard-core realism ideals I consider it role-playing nonetheless, just in my own way.

But I’m a hopeless loot-a-holic and simply cannot resist picking up that Ancient Nord Ax from the skeleton I just lit up with my Elven Flaming Bow. I’m always getting overweight, lol. But the way I usually loot dungeons is to fight my way from the entry point to the furthest part of the dungeon and kill everything in there. Then, as I’m making my way back out I’ll collect everything and haul it all out to be sold later on.

The way I see it is that even though I’m alone more than not, I always have followers available somewhere (housecarls etc.) to take with me so that’s at least one more pack mule to help haul stuff out. I usually ride my horse wherever I go and a real horse can carry a crap load of weight. Not to mention there are wagons and carts everywhere, so I don’t see it being too unrealistic to haul a big pile of loot out of a cave or whatever in one trip. If I was really anol about it I could make 2 or 3 trips in and out to simulate only taking what I could actually carry each trip, but that would quickly kill any fun in the game for me. My adventurers enjoy the benefit of their spoils – and they haul out a LOT of spoils!

Out of curiosity, what do you do with all that coin you make?

lol Sorry OP, you lost me there. I only remember Sandal saying something like that on Dragon Age, but don't remember the context. Indulge me in my 35 IQ world please.: what do you mean? :P (I'll prolly regret asking this, but I like to live vicariously...)

I was just referencing your signature. The salamanders line was my favorite from the game, because "that's where the boom comes from."

Oddly enough, to relate this back to Skyrim, the voice actor of Farengar Secret-Fire, the court wizard, was the voice actor for Fenris in DA.

For the first 15 levels or so, I hated leaving any loots behind (armor, weapons, etc) - but my encumbrance fills up so fast and it's so annoying when I can't run. Now I just loot gold, a few potions and very valuable jewelry, etc.

As for realism, I do find myself making sure I get a full 8 hours of sleep every night, preferably in my house or at least an inn. I know there's no penalty for not sleeping (just lose out on extra percentage for skills), but I just find it unrealistic to think I could adventure for days at a time without eating or sleeping. Yes, I eat on a semi-regular basis as well.
