I'm really hoping food isn't so damn abundant in New Vegas.

But wasnt there a food shortage going on in the US just before the war?

Looking at a timeline on The Vault it looks like there was but in the Fallout universe D.C. would probably be the last place to experience food rationing.

Why, based on what I said, is it obvious? I know easy access is the sacred cow these days and complexity is a swearword, but I don't what would've been so complex and why was is used as a buff.

Well, food was there for a reason but they changed it at some point (At least this is how I understood it but I might be wrong. ) to dumb it down, therefor, while not being super complex they chose to change it and that made the game easier.
Just look at it. If they were to have held their word and actually have had us forced to use the various food around the wasteland then radiation might have been more of a problem which currently it is not.
It's obvious for me at least but we might both have different perspectives on this matter.

The mind boggles at such complexity.

Ah, well. We live in weird times.

It's not a very complex thing but it was one thing that could've made the game at least a tad more difficult.
So seeing as this isn't really complex it makes even less sense to remove it.

That's my point.

I was trying my share of internet sarcasm towards the "easy access" aspect. I'm not very good at it.

Sarcasm isn't very good unless you use smiley or cursive writing.
But there's no satisfaction to be had if the sarcasm is too obvious either. :(

why should it be less abundant, players are obviously going to need it if they plan to play on hardcoe mode

this, and if you don't want plenty of food you can limit yourself to carrying 4 food items at a time

I'm really hoping complaints about Vegas aren't very abundant.
Like my dad always told me: How's it feel to want?

Think "The Road", they had no water except what they could very rarely find, and there was almost no food to speak of, so most people turned to cannibalism, and the only food the main characters found was in an underground bomb shelter, and that didn't last very long. In 200 years there would be NO food, NO bullets, and I doubt that any sort of real society would survive 1. the nuclear war, and 2. 200 years of pure anarchy.

There should be a lot less food but they also should give you a much higher hp bonus.

There's going to be at least the amount there was in Fallout 3, probably more, due to having way more NPCs in the game, that they have made many farms to feed at least the people in New Vegas, and all other surrounding Cities.

Basically, MORE PEOPLE = MORE FOOD.

Hopefully there's at least less packaged food that has somehow not spoiled and failed to be eaten over the course of the decades and decades that have passed since the apocalypse.

Wait that doesn't make sense. Wouldn't less people mean more for because you have less people to consume it.

actualy this is an observed phenominon with human societies, where if you start off with all things being equal, in that up to a point the more people in a given society, the better they are at aquiring food, bascialy what happens is specialisation starts taking over, and people who not as good at at "makeing" food tend to be shifted to other jobs, giveing the people who are better at hunting more time to hunt, the people who are better at farming tend to have more time for farming, thoes better at fishing more time to fish, and so on.

The book or the film?, in the book there was an almost permenant winter / pollution haze, due to the "event" happening within six to twelve years max, which led to even basic scrounging being difficult, and no infrastructre.
Plus the shelter in the novel had more food in it, but the dad became spooked.

NV in FO reality they had decades of peace between games and little destruction in lore following those games.
As styles and others pointed out awhile back farmsteads and caravans were plentiful, the NCR took power and unified california after the chosen one paved a way through many factions turf wars.
Settling Power, industry, money, security, and technology, and energy in the hands of groups seeking to work together after, splinter factions within where dealt with.
So litle anarchy there untill more recently.

And NV has water, it has power, it has quite a few developed areas by the sounds of it.
It also has livestock both new and old, wild beasts that may / will be edible. A microcosom of habitats mostly uneffected for hundreds of years.
So its a possible breadbasket, which is one reason for invasion from the factions.

Yeah, hauling around 500 pounds of food to save your life when they give 5+ health out of the 400 ish needed is not exactly optimal.
For hardcoe mode I'd imagine its a bit more about actually remembering to eat/finding places to sleep. Also food might be more scarce once its actually activated, though I have to agree that the sheer amount of potato crisps and sugarbombs lying around in the Capital Wasteland was borderlining ridiculous.

Its kind of implied that food is a bit more usefull this time around, and survival makes it more usefull. although I still get the impresion that healing with food is more of a "heal between fights" deal

Also given that they aparently have Super stim packs, Its posible they lowered the max healing of regular stimpacks,

I agree. Fallout 3 also made no sense that everyone was STILL mostly eating only pre-war food. I mean, its been forever, it took place, timeline wise, after fallout 2, yet there was no advancement of infrastructure. It was like the bombs dropped 5 years ago.
I imagine pre-war food will be very scarce, but probably at this point in the post-apocalyptic world, food isn't a huge problem. NCR is very well-developed and have many cities and a large population. Check out the fallout wiki about them - they are huge. I imagine there are huge brahmin farms and crops (like you could find in Fallout 2, Modoc is one example)

You have to think about this though the nuclear blasts in FO3 destroyed most bacteria because the radiation so the food won't decompose or go bad so it was really abundant so people would find a lot of it but i only see people eating squirrel bits and iguana bits i never saw people that were eating pre-war food so i think its weird but that's how i look at it.

Ummm, No. That is not how radiation and bacteria work, nuclear war will not kill all of the microbes. :P If it did, no human would survive either.

Less "leftover" food.
I found it slightly ridiculous that there was so much edible food left over in the Capital Wasteland since the bombs fell.

Also, didn't vote because the final poll option makes it out to be a hardcoe mode only concern.
