Roleplayers: how does your character feels about being Drago

Post » Tue Jun 19, 2012 9:25 pm

My first character was just kind of like...whatever, so what? He traveled all of skyrim in search of riches and fortune. Inevitably, he learned a great deal of these mysterious words of power. So out of curiosity, he decided to learn more about them by seeking out the greybeards. He then discovered that these shouts were very useful in his travels. However, the dragons continued to terrorize skyrim because he cared more about hoarding treasures than slaying dragons and saving the world.

My second character was a scholarly wizard who wished to learn all she could about lore, legends, and magic. She became the archmage early in her life, then began to seek out legendary artifacts she had read about in books. She took a quick interest in the ancient art of the voice for it was a form of magic they did not teach in the mage's college. She aspires to learn all the words of power but doesn't necessarily concern herself with the troubles skyrim faces.

Actually, my character has a rare mental condition is skyrim which results in him roleplaying as a troll, furthermore he has no idea about being dragonborn because he is deaf.

Yes, I am a person roleplaying a dragonborn character who is roleplaying a troll.

I wish they had a beast mode where you could run around as a troll and ambush travellers

You can!

But only on PC.

It's a console command.

It's "setrace trollrace"

My character, who suffers from a bit of complex, sees being the Dragonborn as a sign that she is meant to rule Skyrim. It's obvious to her why she was chosen, since everyone else is a fool. She spends a lot of time eliminating the competition (hence the dungeon diving) but takes pains to preserve the lives of ignorant peasants, since they are (or will be) her servants. (You can't say she doesn't care about her people!) Sooner or later, everyone will bow to her. The Thalmor have to be eliminated, of course, since the arrogant fools present a threat. Bandits must be taught a lesson for their impudence. Dragons seek her out to fulfill her destiny. She's basically modeled after Dr. Doom. When you're delusional, everything can be justified.

My character would prefer to work from behind the scenes changing the world. He hates being in the limelight all the time. Causes nothing but aggro.

He also wonders why him? Why not that annoying guard over there? then he could go and explore interesting places elsewhere.

He hates being Dragonborne.

Keri Wintersheild is just trying to find out her parentage, She figures when she is needed as Dragonborn the call will come, the same way it did when the Greybeards called her. She will continue looking for her uncle so that she may find out who she is. In the mean time she is learning the skills that will keep her alive, because a ladies maid she really had no clue.

She remembers her Nord father very little, only as a smileing face and warm voice. Her Mother she remembers not at all. She grew up in the Imperial City orphanage and at 16 took a job as a house maid. When the Lady wanted to come to Skyrim for her cousins wedding Keri volunteered to be her Ladies maid on the trip. The groups was attacked by bandits. and she wokeup in the back of a carriage.

The only character I completed the main quest with is a Breton Mage. He embraced the Dragonborn circumstance with the same zeal as he embraced his aptitude for magic. He struggled to grow stronger and use his strength to benefit those around him. He felt honorbound to grow as a mage and as Dragonborn because of the ability these talents gave him to positively influence the world. The relationship to Dragons was immensely intriguing on an intellectual level and rewarding on spiritual level . He is a believer in redemption and his choices in the main quest reflect this. He also felt no good could come of a College Arch Mage becoming embroiled in civil war yet also fears the meddling of the Thalmor will evolve into something more insidious and dreads the time when there will be no choice but action and direct involvement.

Era, my Imperial rogue, is hesitant to tap into her newfound abilities - odd, considering she's an opportunist in every other respect. She prefers to keep a low profile and avoids drawing attention to her actions, so having the spotlight shined on her so abruptly is unsettling. She'd just about made up her mind to shrug off the mantle of 'hero' and go back to picking pockets when the Greybeards reluctantly allowed her to speak to Paarthurnax. Meeting and conversing with such an ancient, dignified being swayed her, made her realize the true gravity of the situation, and so now she's renewed her struggle to step up to the plate. She copes with the immense responsibility and the hypocrisy of looting the bodies of innocents one minute and saving the world the next by segmenting herself into the polar personalities of 'Era' and 'Dragonborn'. Not exactly the best move as far as mental health goes, but it gets the job done.
Nyn Aldehar, my Bosmer huntsman, delivered the news of the dragon attack to the Jarl of Whiterun but bolted the second greater involvement was asked of him, so he hasn't the faintest clue that he's the Dragonborn. And as for Anja Engelhaus, my Nord, she arrived fresh off the boat in Dawnstar Nordrick-style and has only heard whispered rumours of dragons from guards and other NPCs. So no Dragonborn anxiety there, either.

Preoccupied with attempting to win money and power through criminal means, amoral Breton Bel regards the Yarl of Whiterun as being a superstitious old crank but welcomes the prestige he has bestowed upon her, if only as a possible means to get out of paying the price for future criminal activities. Nobody is particularly impressed when she makes an atronach materialise out of thin air or calms an angry bear, so finding a few Nords were mightily impressed when she made a dark elf stagger about for a second she puts down to their somewhat backwards belief in old folk tales. She's since discovered she can do a few more things, but nothing to make her take this business seriously yet.

Perhaps feeling a pang of conscience regarding some of her actions, she recently made a spontaneous decision to give an Argonian the jewels he needed to marry the lizard of his dreams, getting only a crappy potion in return. Only to find five minutes later the same Argonian giving her a hard time about threatening said dream lizard for Thieves Guild money days ago, seemingly turning on her the moment he got what he wanted. This, coupled with Lydia moving in uninvited, refusing to stay in her own room and sitting there staring at her in a disconcerting manner every time she goes to bed has caused Bel's embryonic stirrings of concern for others to evaporate and she's now off to wreak havoc. If she visits the Greybeards, it will be to see what they have that's worth stealing.

In fact, Bel just found herself in Ivarstead and figured playing the role of pilgrim would be good cover for the dark deed she needed to perform there. Agreeing to take up some supplies for some guy sealed the pretence. After being led to believe she might encounter a few wolves, she was surprised to find herself faced by a troll, a snow bear, an ice wraith and a frost troll. She heard another bear but it remained out of view. Fearing a set-up, she's considering if it's prudent to take out supplies guy just in case. That "pilgrim" seemed a bit suspect too - how the hell did she get past that lot? Perhaps the "pilgrim" should meet with a little accident too, just to be sure. Those Greybeards didn't seem to have any loot worth grabbing, but the running trick was fun. Though now they want her to go find somebody's trumpet or something miles away and they don't look like they're offering cash for the job.

My Imperial didn't buy into all the nonsense the Nords spouted at him. He used his new-found abilities to further the interests of the Empire and put down the Stormcloak rebellion. He plans to push for an offensive against the Thalmor.

My Nord was thrilled to have another tool at her disposal to defeat the enemies of Skyrim.

My guy already saved the world once (Champion of Cyrodiil), so it came as no surprise to him. His wife however, took some more convincing, she hated the fame that came as a result of the Oblivion crisis.

Nice, I love troubled characters who question their own actions

Keep going folks, I'm sure there's more of you whose characters have depth and substance.

My character sees it like this:

Dragonborn = Gold/respect/rare power.

That's enough for her. The dragon slaying is a bit of a drawback though; she would much rather continue to run the Thieves Guild in peace.

Think of it this way: dragons are bad for business. :D

From a role play perspective, does not give a #£%@, most of my characters have no interest in praise, but when you've just saved a village from a dragon attack, the last thing you want to hear is "Keep your hands to yourself sneak thief"; kinda spoils the moment if you get my meaning.

Amen to that. However, I found that the lack of recognition suits just fine sneaky characters like mine, you can always roleplay that you are so stealthy that you're able to leave the location completely unnoticed even after having killed a dragon.

Mine thinks being Dragonborn it's a curse. He was hoping for a simple way of life without being forced to carry all the weight of the world upon his shoulders. A farm, a wife, some kids, maybe a trip to High Rock every one and then. The first thing he did when he left High Hrothgar was shouting GODS WHY ME from the top of the mountain [actually it would be a cool Shout ].

What about yours?

edit: I'm curious to read how some have managed to roleplay they are NOT Dragonborn

Nothing. He feels the same way about his pancreas and pituitary gland and his left big toe. It just is. It's as real as his shadow and just as inarguably impossible to deny. It has advantages that he only found out about because he killed a dragon; but he can't feel any differently than he did since birth. How can he? In Little Adventurer Daycamp, there was no questionnaire called "Do you have the qualities of Dragonborn?". He feels the same way he did the day before Helgen. He's never been able to feel another way so he can't know.

As far as responsibility that comes with being Dragonborn goes, he only has one responsibility- him.

My Breton, Riden, sees being Dragonborn as a philosophical destiny for him. He personally hates it but believes that whatever God controls his fate, he'll accept it as there's no point in fighting it. However, Riden still swears true allegiance to Nocturnal and the Thieves Guild.

my char doesnt want to be dovahkiin anymore, he envys his friend Odahviing.

When my char sleeps he often dreams he is a dovah, ruling from the sky.

And when he begins to think the dream is real, a sudden sence of being paralized and falling overtakes him. A dark void surrounds him as if being trapped in a box. A darkness, a darkvoid, a box marked with a glowing green "X"

Unable to move, feeling trapped by darkness consuming him ~ my char (Haelifur) calls for help but like a whisper his voice is a hush in darkness, no one can hear him.

His heart begins to race, a feeling of restlessness overtakes him ~ from deep within like a mighty storm of unbridled vengence from Sovngarde itself....... he wakes shouting........."STRUN BAH QA"!!!!

Awake in a cold sweat his body feeling feverish, heart rate settles and he sighs deeply.

Sitting upright pulling his fur coat over his shoulders he reaches for Qahnaar his sword and stokes the burning coals of the campfire and uncaps his flask for a drink of mead.

The storm clouds begin to fade, the thunder is no more. Soft rain drops from the nightsky disolve and hiss on the hot coals.

Haelifur looks up into the heavens realizing it was just another dream.

Another dream where he had but for a moment to be at peace in the sky as dovah.

-You are a Dragonborn!
-Is that some sort of exotic disease coming from Elsweyr? 'Cuz I totally didn't have a one-night stander with a Khajit. Actually... I can explain it.
-You control the way of the Voice! It grants you powers greater than even the strongest and wisest men, mer or beast has.
-Is that so?

...5 seconds later...

-I'M YOUR GOD NOW. BRING ME YOUR VIRGINS!

Well, he mostly doesn't get it. His family is mostly poor and fled Anvil after the war. Wars and Thalmor have pretty much killed the whole town. He's somewhat loyal to the Empire, though he doesn't much like that they tried to kill him. But aren't dragonborn ... emperors? But there is an emperor, so what gives?
