Roleplayers: I am trying to survive.

I may try this approach and play as myself. Don't think I'll be touching the main, or indeed any, quest lines. Just sitting in various taverns drinking until it is the absolutely correct time to strip down to my underpants. I don't think there are any related achievements for playing like this tho...

Good to see you back, Wiz. I take your point about the moon sugar, should be more like Felldew in Oblivion. Cant you take the smithing 'course' with that blacksmith in Riverwood, then you would have a new skill? Surely IRL you would be interested in learning a new skill if it would make your life better, especially in the kind of situation you (or your son) have found yourself in.

This did come to mind. However, I did not really feel that some blacksmith giving me all the ingredients to make a dagger and then telling me,"Now go do it." really sufficed as proper training. NOW if I went onto google and read up on smithing, then that would make more sense in my mind at least. Perhaps if I actually paid for "training" in blacksmithing, then I would consider doing it as a form of work. Until I find a trainer though, I must work with what I know.

No, there isn't any achievements. You do feel like a boss when you play it through though. You also get to see a different side of Skyrim. I never touch the main quest and only do side quests if it is relevant to my current roleplay.

I do want to give you advice on drinking in taverns all day. When I drink in game, I also IRL. So if you want to drink in taverns all day, then be prepared to blackout at your computer. I've had this happen a few times and it is, well, most of the time NOT pleasant.

Right, so here is another update on my adventures.

After getting a good night's rest at the Inn in Falkreath, I awoke with the goal to relocate. Work is too scarce and I need a more stable place to be. Before I can do this, I need to figure out where I am to go and how to get there.

For roleplay sake, I do not use compass or map. So after scratching my head a bit I realize there is a map in the Jarl's longhouse that is used by the imperial commander there. I look and see that the closest town is Riverwood. Just a short distance to the Northeast. I realize that if I just follow the road, then make an appropriate right when I get close to the huge lake, then I will be on my there. So I had down the beaten trail and say one last goodbye to Falkreath.

The road is long and arduous. Playing with no music is very nerve wracking, since you cannot tell the difference between some birds in a tree or a SKELETON foaming from the mouth out to steal your soul. So I patiently walk my way down the path, walk pass a broken tower, walk by some ruins that have, what I believed, to be littered with corpses. For obvious reasons I didn't investigate.

I make my left at the road split and I find... A horse.

All by itself. Not teathered to anything, no sight of its owner or rider. I stop and look the beast over.

I could take the beast and use it for transportation. But would I IRL? Yes. I am pretty sure I would. So I make a quick glance around, make sure the coast is clear and I saddle up. Also for roleplay sake, I am remotely familiar with riding a horse, so it seemed appropriate.

So I am wabbling along on my new furry friend when I am greeted to 2 very mad bandits. Mean looking ones. They draw weapons and begin sprinting to me. I think one may have said he was going to do something with my bones, I wasn't really paying attention.

So I flee, back track, sprint pass the 2, my horse gets a nice side swipe from one of the bandit's axe, then I am home free. What is sad, is that along the road I saw the same hunter who I met when I made my journey to Falkreath. The same woman who I stalked accidentally.

She was lying face first in the mud. How sad. Well now I can take care of her horse for her.

So I escape the bandits and find a nobleman on horseback with Imperial escort. I attempt to ask for aid, but then the Imperial soldier said that I had broken the law!

He drew his weapon and demanded that I go to prison! Now I did not say that I would, "Rather die than go to prison." I just ended the conversation because I did not understand what he was talking about so I decided to try to mind my own business. He stabbed my horse in the butt with his sword.

How professional. So now I escape this insane Imperial Soldier and am getting close to Riverwood. Pack of wolves attack, I flee with great haste.

I finally get to Riverwood. Tiring journey. I get to the inn, sit down, eat some food, have a drink, purchase a room and relax.

An hour later I decide to look around, maybe find a woodcutter's axe. Who knows?

I find my axe and have a conversation with an Elf named Faendal. He doesn't like some man named Sven. So he asks me to sabotage Sven with some letter.

Why he is asking the newly arrived Imperial is beyond me. So I sell my old war axe, deliver letter and buy some clothing that doesn't make me look like a just escaped from prison.

Darkness falls and I retire to bed, lay my axe and shield in the chair next to my bed, hide my dagger under the bed, leave my boots on the floor and get some much needed shut eye.

Fine to roleplay like that but the game doesn't. It already takes too many liberties with reality:

The real you couldn't outrun a bear
the real you probably couldn't win a fistfight with a drunken Nord
the real you wouldn't even be attacked by a big rat, much less lose

No point play DiD. Only have to restart too many times anyway.

Fair point. I honestly was expecting Whiterun guards to attempt to arrest me in Riverwood, but so far, I am flying below radar.

I didn't even know the Imperial soldiers enforced the law! I just thought they were their own faction, independent of the "guards" faction.

I walk buy Heimskr who convinces me that the empire svcks and that I Should join Stormcloaks.

You would let a guy like Heimskr convince you of something irl? lol. Are you a christian extremist irl? That's pretty much what Heimskr is. (sorry if i'm sounding really critical btw not trying to be) Also why don't you use potions? Because they don't exist in real life, or because you refuse to take medicine irl?

Well, no, I am no extremist IRL. In fact, religion is rather non-existent in my life. I was swayed to join the Stormcloaks because:

A.) I could relate to what Heimskr was trying to say. Mentioning how the Elves were slowly taking away the rights of man and how the current emperor turned his back on the man-god who created the empire. I personally have experienced loss of rights in my life so naturally I felt for the Stormcloaks.

and

B.) I had been drinking heavily both in-game and in real life. So I was naturally swayed alot easier than if I had been sober.

As for the potions, It is too easy to just chug potion after potion to avoid dieing. I think I read a rule about it in another thread about intense roleplay. I honestly don't do anything that can heal me. IF I am about to die, which is impossible to know since I have no HUD and refuse to look in the menu, I always prioritize escape before fighting.

Besides, it would ruin the "life and death" feeling if I knew I had 10 health pots that I can gargle. Sure I can limit myself to only a few or what I can carry, but I felt it easier just to avoid them all completely. EXCEPT, when I have enough space on my person to sell them. In that instance I am just making a living.

I made this challenge a week ago in a thread
and i took my challenge on my own as well. I was told to clear out a fort of bandots on my own to join the Legion and just said "[censored] that i'll just join the Bard's college". I went to the college and they told me to go to an ancient Nordic ruin full of Draugr and i'm just the "WTF!!!!"
Why do i have to go to these such dangerous places?!! Why can't i just sing my way to the college,

Read the part about the Falkreath cemetary. I think that answers whether I do or don't.

Next update!

So this next update is a little different than my prior ones, mainly I have eased on the Ale/Mead/Wine/ etc.

So what is going on? I am in Whiterun. Yes, I travelled AGAIN. Need to. It is my quest. Find my previous character's demise. Should be interesting.

So woke up in Riverwood. Had some breakfast, chopped some wood. Became friends with an Elf named Faendal. I decided to head along a path leading out of Riverwood. Figured I might end up at Whiterun eventually.

I asked Faendal to assist me since I helped him with his romance problems. We leisurely walk to Whiterun. We are attacked by a couple wolves. I immediately ran away, Faendal isn't as easily scared, so he fought them. Both.

Turns out a bow at pointblank range is VERY effective against wolve's faces.

So we reach the outskirts of Whiterun and see a giant collapse in the distance. We get up closer and he is dead surrounded by 3 armed people. This lady with paint all over her face runs up to me and says:

"Well, took care of that. No thanks to YOU!"

"Uhh, what are you talking about?"

"A TRUE WARRIOR WOULD RELISH THE COMBAT!"

"Im a peasant with an axe designed for chopping wood and a poorly crafted hide shield. My cotton shirt and pants do not really offer all that much protection from swords and arrows."

So we walk away from the angry, war lady and press on to the Whiterun stables. I jokingly suggest that Faendal spot us a carriage ride somewhere.

"Not for you. Not for ANYONE."

Geez, calm down. So we get to the Whiterun gates and are stopped by a guard.

"HALT! Jarl don't want nobody inside, what with these dragons about."

"... Take a long look at me. Do I look like a dragon?"

"... Well we will let you in this time. But we are watching you."

Skyrim is such a bizarre place.

So me and my buddy Faendal go to a tavern and chill out there after a long day's hike.

I help myself to some cooked beef and seared slaughterfish. Mmmmmm, delicious!

We sit for a while, I try to have a conversation with Faendal but the guy just has absolutely NO conversation. Nothing.

We won't talk about his crush on Camilla Valerius, won't tell me how he got into Skyrim, where he was born, why he is in Riverwood, where his family is, NOTHING.

Plus the entire time he sitting across from me with a scowl and his arms crossed, like I made a terrible decision or something.

Maybe he is still peeved about the whole wolves incident. It wasn't like a COMPLETELY fled for my life. I got in 1 good shield bash before the last wolf died.

Whatever.

So I give him some gold and tell him to go home. He practically skips out of the tavern. Jerk.

I get a room and drop my gear in the usual places.

Knife under bed, axe and shield in the chair, boots next to the door.

I tell the bard to shut the hell up. Imagine how hard it would be sleeping in an Inn where they are singing "Ragnar the Red" all night and clapping and fighting and slamming their mugs on tables.

We shall see what happens next!

I always play like that witha diferent twist....
I set a mind set for character, some background and i stick to it.
Most of the time when i feel i ve broken the character to satisfy some real self will i end up loosing interest in the character. Rightnow my kajhiit wanderer thief/looter has had t run a lot(2 weapon hander). And my Nord weapon and shield heavy warrior are doing fine. I feel there s space for my Dark elf heavy armored 1 hander and magic and someone magician (probably orc) berserk 2 hander.

What a kill-joy. Tell on, Wiz.

You don't know how awesome your encouragement is.

No updates today. Today I was busy doing college related things and did not have the fortitude to play the same file.

I played Skyrim, just on another file. It was fun to break the "Stout, intense, hardcoe, ultimate" roleplaying guidelines.

I assure you however, I will indeed continue my struggle and let you guys know what happens.

HOPEFULLY, there will be no frost traps involved.

I think this is a real cool idea, and I am definitely going to try it. I think this thread might need to go in the other section (C, H, & S) though. I had no idea that one runs into a certain Stormcloak leader in a certain other city that costs 20 Gold to get to...
