roleplaying killed my orc

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 5:24 pm

so i recently roleplayed a dead is dead illiterate orc, with the hud off, no missions, no fast travel, just wandering around murdering helpless beasts, and trying to learn the landmarks by sight. when i got to the north shore and was jumping across the floating ice sheets to get to a cave on another island.
suddenly, i missed one and fell in.
it seemed appropriate that once i hit the water, i made my stupid orc sink to the bottom and die.

so, im just wonering if any one else has roleplayed that armor is too heavy to swim in?

or if anyone has had a similiar situation where how they are roleplaying has significantly hurt their character, in a split second decision.

. . . So you were roleplaying a mentaly handicapped Orc that slipped into the water and drowned? That is truely the most funniest thing I have ever read!

And to answer your question: Yes I have Roleplayed a DiD character who was an arrogant high elf mage that tried to obtain ultimate power which consumed him and almost got him killed. (I was battling a master Fire mage then my magicka went down quickly so I used the spell that drains life for magicka and I won the battle at a great cost and now my character only uses his power for good not just to forward his own intentions)

You know he could have just removed the armor and lived right? He didn't have to die.

yeah i got a chuckle at the time....

equalibrium, that spell is awesome when combined with any healing effect.
damn, ive never made it far enough in did to see a master wizard. also, i like that you changed gears and went good from evil. using a somewhat random event as a catalyst to completely alter your character. its the same idea.. you cant plan that kinda thing. i like it.

I feel the same way, however there is little entertainment besides two bars and a shop in the little town I call home
Not that its really sunny today either..

On Topic: I haven't really killed off any of my characters with role play and my lifestyle doesn't hand me the free time to do anything besides play on my main character, who once abruptly died because he stood on a dismembered skeleton, of all things..

Most my characters wear light armor, but I have to admit that if I had someone if full Dwarven armor and made them swim across a lake or something that it would be pushing the boundries of realism as far as that goes.

Though, I don't think I would have let someone just drown cause they fell in the water. Course factor in that it's freezing water and it really would be a hard thing to overcome in real life.

Initially I thought this topic was about having a hard time role-playing an orc in Skyrim, you know being dragonborn and all this stuff. But the issue detailed here is... strange.

I have a rule, that I always drink a frost resistance potion... or cast flame cloak before I go in that water.... because it is frozen water. It should kill you.

Weight of the armor. That is an issue as well. Well good RPing. Sorry about your orc, but that was a pretty stupid thing to do. He should have taken the armor off first.... and worn some warm looking cloths like the college robes.

Thing about Skyrim though is if you take it off, you are still carrying it. Honestly unless you are a Nord, the Northern areas should kill you in a pretty short time.

If your going to worry about how cold the water is then you should also worry about what your character is wearing out of water to.In the northern parts of skyrim wearing anything other than fur would be a death sentence.

you know what, i commend you.

you read posts on here all the time about how involved the rping is by some and it's often used as some kind of rational argument against certain problems with the game.

and, yet, you stuck to the roleplay in a way that i hadn't even thought of. now THAT'S true rping.

with noxious' very smart rping suggestions and your strict rping, i have learned how to add a little more depth to my DID runs.

maybe, those who are always admonishing others for not rping enough, will heed some of your ideas and stop their hypocrisy.

well-done.

It was supposed to be really stupid, since his Orc was a grade-A moron.

I've done something like that once myself, even though I play Dead-is-Dead. One of my characters came out of a particularly brutal fight with two Ancient Dragons at once with only a little health left, however in order to manage that I had to violate my strict rule about not accessing my inventory during combat. As a result, after some deliberation I decided that he had actually died during the fight, since that would have been the result had I not taken the healing potions I'd found earlier.

Orcs are naturally skilled in heavy armor, they can wear the heaviest of armors and still move effectively. There is a book you can find which describes how effectively orcs use heavy armor, can't remember it's name.

So the Orc would have probably been fine, but to be honest who cares what the developers say happens, make your own game.

You can hotkey healing potions. That way, you don't have to access the inventory during a fight.

Actually fair play to you for sticking to it.
I try to be really strict with Niamh but she always managed to get one over on me.
Kudos on the self control!!
