Implying that Yao Guai make any sense in fallout 3. A Mutated Black bear wouldn't be very threatening. What we see here is a mutated Grizzly.

this. and i acutely loved yao guai since fallout 3. i have to say i love them more then deathclaws, nd i am fairly fond for deathclaws.

One shot kills. With sneak attack headshot, Hunting Rifle and HP rounds.

Both Yao Guais and Giant Cazadors.

It was more the shock of seeing two of them flying at me at the same time. Ballistic Fist remedied the situation very quickly. But there aren't many things that will live through a few Vats headshots with the fist.

Man, you want shock? I was in 3rd person, sneaking around on top of one of those mesas, and a Giant Cazador lands behind me. It didn't see me, and the .45 made short work of it, but it was a pants-browning moment. Those svckers are huge.

 Unfortunately Al D they saw me before I saw them. So I didn't have that chance, plus I had my Marksman Carbine on instead of the Ballistic Fist. So I took a couple shots before I could switch and beat them to death with pure rage.

The demon bears have returned? crap I better prepare. I really don't have a problem with things getting reused especially when it makes sense and here it does its an area where bears would live so lets put in the bear enemy we have, and to the OP they are a new enemy in this game.

Because a mutated blackbear (Now the size of a Grizzly) is deadlier than a handheld weapon that can turn a three ton lizard into a pile of goo. Glad we are on the same page.

nothing acouple rounds from my 12.7mm can't handle.

Coming into this at 35, I was able to take almost everything down with very little issue with a modded 10mm (I don't know what it is but this is my favorite go-to gun), with light sniping from the All-American.
The only one that I *really* couldn't handle that way would be a spoiler to put any detail on but it nets you a unique weapon after you're done taking drugs and killing bears. That one required some riot shotgun action.

That said, it wasn't exactly a picnic trying to handle a giant yao guai once it got into melee range without switching away from that 10mm

Why? more easy to reuse the same resource rather then create a new one

This. Does it really matter if you've seen it in Fo3? Not making a new skin for it let them spend more time on more important things.

This. At least they use a Yao Guai and call it a Yao Guai. Much better than colouring something from FO3 green & giving it a new name (Lakelurks, Spore carriers)

Do the yao guai still fly 50 feet vertically in the air when they die?

At first, when I saw the trailers and gameplay vids I thought Fallout New Vegas was just a large f3 expansion. I was wrong, it's really a new game. It doesn't feel like a ripoff at all, the atmosphere and enemies just make it fresh and new. However, I personally like the gloomy feel better in f3.

Fallout 3 was the odd one out, the other Fallout's took place in the American Southwest as well, just farther in the past.

Zion has bears, Yao Guai are mutant bears, hence Yao Guai in Zion.

However, seeing as how there's like, no radiation in Zion, at all, maybe some un-mutated bears would've been better. Just use the same model with a new texture. It could work. Also, I thought the Yao Guai were called that because of how many Chinese spies were in DC, and the name stuck. How a bunch of isolated tribals would come up with the same name is anyone's guess.

But whatever. Not a big deal.

I have no problem with reusing, but I hate how it feeds the universal wasteland naming we see. It was bad in Fallout 3 when ghouls were called ghouls (even self-describing as ghouls) and Super Mutants were called Super Mutants. It seems like an area so far off wouldn't use the same name for them. I suppose the Brotherhood must have carried over terms like that, but why would the ghouls that they shoot on sight call themselves what they call them? The best hope for Yao Guai in HH making sense naming-wise is imagining that it was a pre-war term that used to describe bears and was all over. Of course this is a little thing, but it does bother me when I actually think about it.

I know, right? They didn't even make their own Stimpaks and they have humans too, just like in Fallout 3.

The two games play in the same universe, obviously they're going to have some sort of consistency going. If we go by your logic, then Fallout 3 ripped off Fallout 2 because it had vaults. And so on.
