Seriously? Yao Guai?

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 10:28 am

So I was reading the "Key Features" in the Steam store page and came across this gem:

"New Enemies: From the deadly Yao Guai "

They aren't new, they were in Fallout 3. Surely Obisidian has enough time to make its own version of a mutated bear instead of ripping some Fallout 3 content and claiming it as their own? :meh:

funny you say that... because that's all New Vegas was as far as graphics and gameplay go: ripped fallout 3 content, slightly altered and called original.

It's new for New Vegas and if you haven't played FO3 then it's new all together.

Why? more easy to reuse the same resource rather then create a new one

Because Bethesda wanted it to use the same engine and only tweak it a little

But nevermind the Geckos, Cazadores, Ghost People, and other NPC from both main and DLC games right?, how unoriginal

(sarcasm)

I love when people blindly call it "rip off", seriously, think it twice before saying things like that, it just pure ignorance

Implying that Yao Guai make any sense in fallout 3. A Mutated Black bear wouldn't be very threatening. What we see here is a mutated Grizzly.

At first, when I saw the trailers and gameplay vids I thought Fallout New Vegas was just a large f3 expansion. I was wrong, it's really a new game. It doesn't feel like a ripoff at all, the atmosphere and enemies just make it fresh and new. However, I personally like the gloomy feel better in f3.

First it was:

"Why didn't Obsidian just carry everything over from Fallout 3? It's the same engine!"

Now it's:

"Why is Obsidian carrying everything over from Fallout 3? It's the same as before!"

If they'd copy-pasted them over to....a flippin' desert, then I'd agree with you.

Instead they only copy-pasted them once there was a location that suited them; an area that could actually house bears.. So yeah, why complain?

There's a TVTrope for that too. However, the nature of its name means I cannot post it here without incurring action from moderators.

I think Obsidian put them in as an excuse to give us "the right to {bear} arms"

Plus Yao Guai gauntlets are cool (even if they look like a model mix of a deathclaw gauntlet and a yao guai paw).

Look at Fallout 3, now look at Fallout 1 & 2.

As you can see, they have the same exact stories... [censored] about that, please.

Also, I don't recall Yao Guai Cubs or Giant Yao Guai being in Fallout 3.

I would have preferred them to be more unique and create a completely different creature instead of copy&pasta from F3.

A Mutated Black bear wouldn't be very threatening.

Yeah, okay.

Because a mutated blackbear (Now the size of a Grizzly) is deadlier than a handheld weapon that can turn a three ton lizard into a pile of goo. Glad we are on the same page.

So, by extension nothing, is threatening; how can a Deathclaw be threatening when I can bring up a pip-boy and take super-stims?
