The Las had 1 big hit, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xX9TDQcCyVE, but they have a bunch of other awesome songs. Such as http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7PQh0ZgA_U&feature=relmfu.

I'm also a huge fan of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LqtAuaVppW4

I don't suppose anyone here has any suggestions for modern Gaelic bands, ala Capercaillie (they do traditional Gaelic as well as using modern techniques and mixed forms)?

Roses Never Fade - Dark, brooding neo-folkish stuff featuring members of Integrity (the hardcoe band). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eH2zTBaYl9w
I like the music of that one a lot, but not so much the vocals.

Well. This has nice "fantasy" mood in it, no? Qntal is related to more well known German act Deine Lakaien because founding member & multi instrumentalist Ernst Horn. Music can be described as kind of "electro-medieval"

I did a quick scan of a youtube playlist of music I've been building up over time and I nicked a few of the lesser-viewed ones, and considering I haven't heard of them anywhere except the places I first discovered the songs, I'd like to think they're more obscure. Either that or I'm a shut-in :(

Also I'm not that great with the super-specific music genres so you'll excuse me if I spare myself the embarrassment and you the frustration, eh? :hehe:

http://youtu.be/0Lt2tooYf2Q
http://youtu.be/72MqLI3ZWi0
http://youtu.be/iZc2ylAwRf8
http://youtu.be/LrtEJH7OJes
http://youtu.be/aecPt3SP_6M
http://youtu.be/ucgUfTO5Onk

In retrospect, most of these songs are rather melancholy (except the SUNBEARS!, which stands in complete contrast), which could explain their lack of [perceived] popularity?

They had three songs chart at number one on the alternative rock charts in the US (including the one you posted), and six songs which charted overall (all of which charted in the UK too, albeit not very highly) so they hardly qualify as a one hit wonder... :P

Chart? Sure. Nut nobody ever hears any of the others. At least around here anyway. Which is a shame, really.

Kalafina Songs
Lacrimosa: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFUs65fE0a4
Red Moon: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbfpQ0dZ1KA&feature=related
Magia: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1teE48q3BI&feature=relmfu
Kalafina is awesome

I really like the OP they did for Sora no Woto (Hikari no Senritsu) and Serenato

Another band I really like is ZONE

Boku no Tegami remains to be one of my favorite all time songs

Probably a little more well known now thanks to Dark Souls is The Silent Comedy

I also like A.A. Bondy, and Wolf Parade

Well, you reminded about my copy of Thank You, Happy Birthday (which admittedly, I hardly ever listen to) and now I'm giving it another spin, so congrats :)

Also, I supposed one might point at the http://lapfoxtrax.com/ "group" and call 'em obscure-ish. Seeing as I follow his music quite fervently, I probably wouldn't be the best judge of how famous his music has become, but as far as I know his following isn't any larger than "cult following". Excuse me if I'm mistaken. If you visit the site, be sure to check out a few different albums by different "artists", he switches up the style greatly between them; Renard's music uses lots of samples whereas The Queenstons' does very little (if any at all).

Edit: Forgot the link.

How many of you remember http://theportalwiki.com/wiki/Portal_2_Chapter_2_Test_Chamber_5 from Portal 2? And how about that neat little song that played in the background as you sailed through the air? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0uW04oswbI.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBkVQSJEZAk&feature=related. Celtic Folk Metal. Metal with tin whistles and harpsichords. 'Nuff said.

That song was amazing, reminds me of elvenking(which is a band you should check out if you do really like these guys. mainly their older stuff and their acustic album)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QURjAJPSQo0

Wow, this song was really chill. lovin it. finding some great new bands here, a lot of divirsity going on, really cool.

Consisting of Mike Portnoy Neal Morse Pete Trewavas Roine Stolt

I'm sure I've said this before, but I'm continually shocked by the fact that Future Of The Left aren't huge. Here's their recent single 'Sheena is A T-shirt Salesman':

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcD2cqNT1bQ

Here's something a little bit freaky, by Les Georges Leningrad (are they still around?) Love the bassline.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vdI7F-VtPKk. Soothing yet dark. Really dark and slow jazz music describes this pretty well.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2zkN74s72M are pretty neat too. I just got a look at the views for this and wow.. I guess they're not super unknown

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oAh7k1a_eQ4.. One of my favourite songs (Leech)

Edit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVGBfU0alqE&feature=relmfuis the best though :D

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mO9MzATrqo&list=FLt2d297o7tCop0bXq30Q6kQ&index=20&feature=plpp_video - Good electronic music. Soothing. I really love the singer's voice.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WzVXz-hgQ60 - More electronic music, but darker, less poppy, and more inventive. 90% bass, and best when listened to in the middle of the night.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OlV8GQWStSA - Psychedelic noise rock. Ever since I discovered My Bloody Valentine in high school I've really loved bands that manage to be pretty and noisy at the same time, and this band has a way of completely enveloping the listener in their sonically dense music. Also, the drummer is astonishingly good.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdOmDqwSZfo - Japanese post-rock with an experimental edge. Lots of piano, cathartic song structures and gorgeous female vocals. Also, the song I linked is relatively straightforward, but they also experiment with nose and weird time signatures in stuff like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tg5QarbaO4E.

? Paon (http://www.opaon.ca/sections/audio/)

I was also gonna recommend her. Guess she's not as obscure as I thought.

Also, I'm pretty impressed with the band OP posted.

Wow, that's REALLY good. Thanks! I love the drumbeat against the guitar background, lots of tension.

You should check out Boredoms then. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVblTB-v2gk and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qi4TJ8qwvPM&hd=1are really noisy and beautiful. Lots of great tribal drumbeats too.

Checked out that song by Mutyumu, and it was amazing. Going to be checking out more from them, been hoping to get some new post-rock stuff, and these folks look like they fit the bill.

I got another artists to post:

Familyjules7x: This is a guy on youtube that takes songs from video games he likes and does amazing covers of them. From games like Castlevania to The Elder Scrolls to Banjo Kazooie, he has a impressive collection on his youtube page. They are very professionally put together, and he gives links to free downloads of all of them! Here are a few of my favs. by him:

Here is his Elder Scrolls Medley- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utf5aGf-VtQ&feature=relmfu

Here is My Sanctuary/Passion From Kingdom Hearts 2- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGWZdrJKuHQ&feature=relmfu
