Got a couple that I listen to a lot:

1) Blackmore's Night - Ritchie Blackmore (Deep Purple/Rainbow) and Candace Night (his wife). RenFair type stuff, sometimes with an electric edge. I could listen to their stuff while playing TES or other fantasy RPG.

2) Bill Ward (Black Sabbath drummer): Ward One - Along The Way. Mix of metal and prog rock, with some interesting vocals (Ozzy, Jack Bruce). Very cool CD and very hard to find. Ithink it's his only CD (there was a supposed Euro-release of a second CD, but I could never find it).

I'm a big red dirt/alt country fan which doesn't seem to be this forums cup of tea but http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KP-xEDN8X38 and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0oSw5cQPIh8 are great songs.

Because they just don't write them http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4mTfMij5638 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmyKB-8ZtcY&feature=watch_response http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMaf2zHzZTg&feature=watch_response.

Groovy.

Uh, nobody in my area really listens to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHjpWo4edfw&feature=related, but I know they're not obscure as a whole in any way

.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnEJhozn3J8&feature=related

I love Sparklehorse! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GcjQDllMOw is probably my favorite, followed closely by Ghost in the Sky, Dog Door, Eyepennies, Knives of Summertime, and Piano Fire.

Concerning Cage The Elephant; I like them will enough, but it does annoy me when I'm listening to The White Stripes, really anything that Jack White is involved in (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wg8DMqFuip8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hPsvZ5RM84 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tndP407luk being an exception), The Black Keys, or The Decemberists and people yell "HEY! They copied Cage The Elephant!". :ermm:

I've got a few soundtracks, but when people have it as the sole form of music I find it difficult to take them seriously as a music fan, even moreso than someone who only listens to Breaking Benjamin.

Well, aside from listening to mostly game OST and 80s synth pop, i have found some notable musicians.
firstly, The Dread Crew Odwood. A pirate themed rock-ish band. Very good for inspiration!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_pBWZC_oK0&feature=relmfu
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZN7N0CACvN4&feature=relmfu
Also, someone called Lovett. The video is the real perfection, but the song is pure epicossity too.

Really liked The Dead Crew Odwood, They have some really jaunty, rockin tunes.

That Lovett video was amazing, song was cool too, but man, the video stole the show.

Amazing band! Discovered them last autumn, and they sound simply beautiful!

On the thread:
Now, while the band I'm about to post might be relatively known (I really wouldn't know, I don't really keep track of what's popular and what's not), I don't think many people have heard this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hn_2sOmdSdM off one of their better albums (the later ones are kind of... 'meh'). I think it's a stunning track.

It's not like Frank Sinatra or Louis Armstrong are unknown, but kids of my generation and younger, at least the ones I've met, have no idea who those legends are... A damned shame, and a damned outcome...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ffYm-lRohCg - Acoustic covers of his own ska-punk songs. Good lyrics. I'd say good voice too but I'm biased.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wf_s5pWs2-E - Are they popular? Hell if I know! Have some anyway. Electronic w/ vocals and some acoustic guitar.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJ4Bq6DRpBk - Instrumental rock. I just find the music beautiful. Also does http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8Rt7u7fnIk if you're into that.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wbhgzip6sx0 - Chiptunes! I suppose they may be popular in the chiptunes scene, I dunno, I just like the old-school feel. Amazing how awesome music from old games could be despite such limited sounds.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgjvEDlktcc - Post-rock interpretations of Zelda music. I already liked Zelda music to begin with, post-rocking it is just damn fun. They're just demos but he's very close to release a final album.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RI8SoWxphHc - Interesting indie-rock. Vocals, mandolin, violin, cello, standup bass, and drums. I like them instruments. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cpJEuQkw9cQ Crazy Princetoners.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2a4gyJsY0mc - Rock with a random edge. I find them highly amusing (though their recent albums have been disappointing). I know I've posted this video here plenty of times before, maybe they're popular now!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KroMcTiH_OQ - If you didn't realize I love Zelda music. Zelda trip hop!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xbgjYyH47k - (instrumental)Metaaaaaaaaaal. I don't normally enjoy metal but this intruiges me.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-f1ZqUxfC8 - Crazy rock. Love the mix of genres. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZLmCBkbKJM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Nrm4H7FJGw - I've posted it before and someone else in this thread posted it. Fantastic jazz, great atmosphere.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpDXra9Zbk4 - Heard this while drinking at a bar on Ko Mak. SoundHound is awesome. Acoustic, soft female vocals. I'm quite sure it's somewhat popular in Asia but you're mostly not Asians.
http://vasudeva.bandcamp.com/ - Some more instrumental rock, nice and peppy. Free download.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_i9fFR9lJE - Can't so no to a badass metal cover of a great song from a great soundtrack.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzC4hFK5P3g - J-Pop. What can I say? I like it weird and colorful. Crazy dancing faceless grandma is best grandma. Disclaimer: Do not try puking birds or farting rainbows in real life.
ARIA soundtracks: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UWiFu5kOCY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wHyKw1jD8c http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Aria_soundtracks. ARIA the Box is incredible. Acoustic guitar with a Spanish flair I suppose and piano music. Some jazzy stuff and anime openings/endings too.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lh9a5kJuz_0 - It's the only song I've actually heard by her but I like it (though she likely didn't compose it). Piano + Vocals + Chorus, dreamy music.

To someone earlier in the thread saying that just listening to OSTs isn't a music fan is just so utterly stupid, especially considering it has no genre limitations. It's worse than saying anyone who listens to X genre isn't a fan of music because in reality OSTs can be of X or Y or Z genre. Or all 3.

Bandcamp is a wonderful place.

And have some http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=soKmGKAVUk4 too, probably somewhat popular though. lolpokemon

That post was long.

Some fun artists from the abyssal pit of my itunes drive. I just listen to whatever my brain enjoys hearing. I'm not a big fan of deep lyrics expressing soul searching or complex relationships. Bleh.

I understand the artist feeling a need to express his feelings. What I don't always understand is why so many people enjoy listening to it. I hate listening to people express hopes or frustrations without the opportunity to talk to them about it.

There is so many genres let alone songs that I have in mind, they all portray their own unique style. But the main Genre branches off of Electronic music.

Genres I would like to promote are http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5z_5bLTKSyE, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxFk9-UhY_Y, and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rpee7Jkiu10 music.

Liquid Drum and Bass
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5z_5bLTKSyE 99.3% like to dislike ratio
I feel like I am somewhere else when I listen to Liquid music, it just makes me feel like any abnormalties to soceity are normal to me and this type of music really reminds me of this.

Melodic Dubstep
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxFk9-UhY_Y 99.5% like to dislike ratio.
This tune always brightens my day, the slow buildup to a very relaxing melody soothes the mind.

Garage
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rpee7Jkiu10 98.3% like to dislike ratio
This type of genre is my go to music when I am depressed, it shows ones ability to put their emotions into a song and uplift the listener through sounds.

This style of music branched off of electronic. If these are pleasing to your ears let me know, I give a great deal of similar tunes. Also please check out via youtube; MrSuicideSheep, 17tumbaMusic, SuicideSheeep to get daily tracks of music uploads.

Here's some twinkly emo:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OV0LJ0Dnl7A

Usually not a fan of that variety of emo stuff (I'm more into the stuff that's closer to screamo like Indian Summer), but American Football is great.

Because they agree with it... They express theirselves by listening to music that they relate to.

Love the song, by the way.

Hey guys! I'm actually a lesser known artist so I thougt I'd introduce myself! Here's some info about us

Look us up on Facebook at "DJ Undecided" and like us for some free tracks!! facebook.com/UndecidedDJ

DJ Undecided was created in the confines of a teenagers room. It started as an idea between two friends, who loved EDM and just wanted a fun hobby. Thus DJ Undecided was born. Not yet having a name, he named himself after what he'd been telling his friends, "I don't have a name yet, everything is undecided for now", and the name stuck. DJ Undecided at a school event, where he received mixed reviews. He then went full force and completely reworked his approach to DJing, introducing radical genre blends and breaking traditional DJ formulas.

Coleman Hampton is... DJ Undecided
