Share your Lesser-known music!

Thought it would be fun to have people show some music from bands/artists that are not very popular, and maybe tell why they like them. a fun music sharing experience. The reason being I have been looking for some new music lately, and have a few bands I love that I would like to share.

Galt Aureus is a band I really enjoy, that not a lot of people know about. they have amazing songs, with elements of pop, rock, orchestral, and classical all mixed together to make a very cool sound(in my opinion, at least). They're a two-piece indipendent band, who have some songs that got decently popular on youtube a couple years back, but it seems no one I meet knows about them.

Here are a few links to some of their songs:

This is their newest single, "Monolith". Really love the chorus in this one, and epic song: http://bit.ly/HlzXtn

Here is a softer song, an orchestral balled of sorts, one of my favriotes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fgWs5mFmoM

And this is their song they wrote about the game Starcraft 2, really amazing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YrnfXUeFFZo

I hope you guys like those songs, and I look forward to checking out some of the music others hopefully post.

Anyone who likes grunge, punk or pop-punk should check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A0RmZl5w-ro&feature=related; they released like one album and did the theme for Daria, but otherwise they're a pretty much untouched gem.

Well, avoiding metal (because there's a whole other thread where I can spam my new discoveries in that genre) here are a few lesser known bands I've been liking recently:

Black Widow (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGKt65hTItU) A psychadelic rock band from England, back in the 70's. They had a minor hit (so I'm told) with the ritualistic-sounding Come to the Sabbat - which is another song worth checking out. They sound a bit like the Doors at times, and a bit like Jethro Tull at others, but which much simpler guitar parts and arrangements than both of those bands. They're pretty catchy most of the time, and also quite charming in a nostalgic Hammer Horror kind of way.

Onsind (http://onsind.bandcamp.com/album/dissatisfactions) One of the few British bands on the well known DIY label Plan-It X. Just two guys with acoustic guitars, decent voices and great lyrics. The music I posted speaks for itself really; the songs are perfectly written, expertly played and basically about as good as folk-punk can get. So anyone who likes Frank Turner or Against Me! and doesn't know anything else about the genre should give this a listen.

? Paon (http://www.opaon.ca/sections/audio/) Not really sure how to categorize this - solo guitarist/singer using a loop pedal to build up crazy floaty folky nice sounding compositions. I had the pleasure of seeing her on tour with Earth a few weeks back and everyone was blown away. I've never heard the audience at a gig go completely silent whilst someone was playing before...

This Wicked Tongue (http://soundcloud.com/this-wicked-tongue/sets/this-wicked-tongue) Another band with a lot of influences, this time quite rocky but with some jazz, metal and pop in there too. Great female vocals over superbly catchy songs. Not been around particularly long, but they're one of those bands I definitely want to keep an eye on.

I'll post more if and when they come to me...

Don't have headphones right now, so I can't listen to what you're posting, but I'll leave some music here:

Timesbold: "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E_Qd93Y10yA" Kinda folky, kinda alternative rock, 100% awesome.

Not entirely sure this counts, since most people who like EDM will have heard of him, but Madeon is pretty great. He's only 17 (or maybe 18 now, I'm not sure) but incredibly talented - he's remixed Deadmau5 and Pendulum, and made some really great original songs too. Check out 'Pop Culture' and 'Icarus'.

Wouldn't it be nice if people actually did that...? There's only seven posts so far in this thread, and if I were to only listen to the first YouTube video each person had posted (not counting the person who didn't even bother to add a link) it would take me over half an hour. It just seems like common courtesy to at least just say a tiny bit about the artist in question, otherwise this thread will just be a long list of links no one will click...

A starting new artist, Catherine Maynard, listen to her demo http://catherinemaynard.com/fr_welcomebienvenue.cfm, you can get her music for free ! It's some sort of Folk.

On another trend, I really like http://icedragon.bandcamp.com/album/the-burl-the-earth-the-aether and http://spelljammer.bandcamp.com/album/inches-from-the-sun, Doom Rock.

? Paon, as mentionned before, is really a blast!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NlNB5oHEPUI is a band I really like... I think they are some kind of mix of electronic and metal and other subgenres of these. Note that this song does generally portray the band's work as a whole, they do still have some different sounds. For example, there is a significant difference from their earlier work to their later work (a bit toned down, maybe, especially the remixes of their latest album)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQEmaj9C6ko is neat, I find. Something similar is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MC6aAs4kkbY. Both are some kind of electronic/trance or something... (I really am not good at genres, .)

I really enjoy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GwgDovOyfR0, which is at least electronic-like

I like that neofolk song, but I hate the vocals. It's always a shame when that happens because vocals make or break songs for me.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XdKvksZUMjU Bit progressive/electronic rock music. They have one album, it's pretty awesome.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KbWZ7A1wSs Sometimes describes as a mix between Porcupine Tree and Radiohead. And a bit Muse-like in the newest album.

The indie game Jamestown has a http://finalformgames.bandcamp.com/track/journey-into-the-dark-sector.

But my favourite song right now is still Oceansize's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1PpLPx6XvIk. 8 minutes of awesome.

I need to use the word 'awesome' less.

This thread is a godsend

Just two from the top of my head

Killer Joe as performed by Benny Golson: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TW641zgPOqQ

Moanin' by Art Blakey and the jazz messengers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKXsnDvILmI

Why they're good (subjectively and objectively) should be self apparent.

http://www.youtube.com/user/TImeflies4850 but they only really get 300k views per video and don't seem to have broken through to the mainstream. I think they're wiked. Especially Ass Back Home and Until The Sunrise. ^_^

I Really am digging these guys, I like their voices and the simple toned-down sound really works.

I agree, this guy is really damn amazing man.
