Should Skyrim have a trainer to reset your perks?

Post » Sat Jun 16, 2012 3:20 pm

No.

As you said it cuts down the need for new characters, if I can just reset my skills it wrecks the replay value.

Say my archer wants to smith some dragonbone armor, I just reset my perks, craft the armor and then switch back totally ignoring the investment in that skill. Or I respec and put points in enchanting and alchemy, buff my gear and then respec back to my old build and I've got free enchantments. Totally gamebreaking, if they added such a feature I'd only support it if you could only do it ONCE per character. If someone makes a mistake while picking perks, they can just reload a previous save if it's that big of a deal to them.
This and it pretty much kills the only real consequence in the game.

That's why I suggested a one time use only respec. Once, no more. And since this is a...
*puts a megaphone up to K-9's ear* SINGLE PLAYER GAME
*puts it down*
...In which the actions of other players has zero effect on you as a person, or your game itself beyond your own choices...I don't see the harm in allowing it only once.

What did you said? Couldn't hear you :teehee:

I still thinks it would remove some of the soul TES games have.
And the one time reset is just a step from no consequences and all the resets you want.

I'm going to have to say we choose to agree to disagree and flip this table.

Good question I think and would you take advantage of it.

It would cut down on the need to constantly create new characters but might hurt the longevity of the game.

Your thoughts?

you should have made this thread a poll.

i for one would have voted yes

They should make it a "fake" level up feature beyond 81. Basically, every time you "level up" beyond 81, you gain 0 stats, but have the option of removing a perk and selecting a new one.

You can't level up beyond 81. That's the hard cap, meaning every skill is at 100, meaning you can't get any more skill increases. Also, I'm against this idea. It'd be like wanting to rearrange your attributes, or respec on feats in D&D.

On my first and main character yes. I think it should be limited though to something like three perks

Reading comprehension. That is why I said "fake" level ups, as in it does not actually increase your level or confer any bonus beyond the ability to remove and re-select one perk. Having it tied in this way would prevent being able to utilize such a feature before max level where every enemy is a joke anyways, and it still requires effort on the player's part to actually achieve a "fake" level up at that point where leveling becomes very slow in order to replace the perks one by one rather than all at once.

I agree with most when they say that it would break replay value. However, if they were going to implement it, I would want them to do it in a manner other then a trainer. I would prefer a quest or even a qeustline. If you are so serious about wanting to respec your points, you should have to work for it. Maybe meditate on all of the emblems on the way to High Hrothgar... a sort of pilgrimage. Or something even more difficult. This would lessen the chance of players abusing the respec feature.

It would be optional. So I would never have to use it, therefore doesn't bother me if they added it.

I would like it if I could change a single perk within a set amount of time from when I originally selected it. So if I thought I was in the Destruction spell area and I selected Dual Casting, but I was actually in Restoration, it would be great to be able to change it right away.

Nope.

Kind of...no...totally defeats the purpose of picking a perk in the first place.

Nope. It would ruin the role play experience to be able to reset perks.

If it were offered as an option I wouldn't mind, but I would never use it.

Maybe with limited uses and a high cost, but doing it at will anytime you want is a no-no.

Yeah but it should cost a minimum of 100k if not more, or 10k per perk or something like that. Basically yes but it should be very expensive.

It'll probably be in eventually in some DLC or patch
personally i'd like to have the option so i can get rid of the useless perks i have in conjuration and restoration
they were helpful at low levels, but now they are never used
and i've spent way too much time to restart for a 3rd time
maybe balance it by making the trainer charge massive amounts of gold to remove a perk? idk
all i do know is that people complaining about how it would ruin the feel of the game apparently don't understand that it would be optional

Just have alot of saves if you mess up you can go back or if your like me i like the intro but playing it over and over again gets annoying so i have a save right inside the cave before you exit. Thats only if you like a certain race but thats me.

A one time magic spell of a sort, but even that would seem very forced

Definitely yes. I've gotten some bad perks which I wish I could place on something better. Plus the destruction perks I got were useless when I realized how gimped Destruction is at higher levels.
