Shouts in the Elderscrolls six?

Shouts being in the next game would be very similar to Oblivion Gates being in Skyrim. It won't fit, and the reason will be obvious once we experience the game itself.

Well, shouts could be wonderful... if they were re-balanced. But as it stands, they are too slow to cool down, and too weak to be of much use.

But pretty much any unique ability in The Elder Scrolls has been a form of magic practiced by a select group.
The Redguard Blade Singers
the Nord Tongues
the Argonian Hist magic
We learned that one of the Khajiit breeds used muffle magic (previously, only they could use this spell, as it hadn't been used by anyone else before skyrim)

Okay, question shout lovers. MC of TES6 is not a dragonborn. So answer me this: How do they learn shouts over the course of the game?

It took years of dedicated practice per word for the greybeards, but that won't fly in a videogame. Give me some reasoning on how it would work... and make it good.

This I love shouts yet it would not be lore friendly at all I just don't see how it'll work

I know, right? So brainstorm something up, shout guys. While yes, shouts are fun in TES5, how could htey possibly work in TES6 without breaking the lore, and while also being fun to play? Because you can't just "read word, kill dragon, FUS RO DAH" anymore.

My solution? Lore friendly substitute. It'll be similar to shouts, but not actually shouts. Powers the MC gets in TES6 related to whatever destined uberguy they happen to be this time. They work a lot like shouts, enough similarities to make it familiar, but it'd be different enough - new enough - that it's still distinct, fresh, and fun.

I concur this is how it would have to be done if they do implement a "shout-like" system.

Shouts are for the dragonborn. TES VI won't need a dragonborn.

Dragons should stay in Skyrim. Instead of keeping shouts turn them into spells.

Dragons should stay in Skyrim.
Anyways, the shouts are already spells and they should all be.moved into a system with our old spells back and spell creation, some of the shouts are amazing indeed become ethereal is by far my most used about, and I've always wanted to summon a storm and I can with stormcall, and those are just two shouts, oh yes and the whirlwind sprint is worth a mention too.

Anyways these combined with the old spells, spell creation, dual wielding spells, and the New spell types would be a great magic system.

I'm hoping we don't have a magic/shout distinction in the next game, and a lot of the shouts get moved into spells. Push and Disarm would be awesome Alteration spells.

I say no shouts, but new magics in their place. Keep all the great stuff we have, but add three different spells in Alteration that work just like Unrelenting Force's three different levels, an awesome Destruction spell that's exactly like Storm Call, an Illusion spell that works just like Throw Voice, etc.

It's that simple. :tes:

Why in the world would there be Dragon shouts in the next game? Number one, it won't be set in Skyrim, number two we won't be Dragonborn, and number three that's just silly. The shouts are Nordic centric, and only the most dedicated and skilled non-Dragonborn can learn shouts.

They will not be returning. Probably replaced by another gameplay oriented gimmick.

If we go to Alik'r, I would love to find some ruins and resurrect the magic of the Sword-singer (and possibly adapt it to more than just swords)

I agree, Sword-Singing sounds like a lot of fun and it keeps the shout-like mechanic without completely messing up the lore. I would, however, like to see a limited shout as a racial ability of the nords in the next game. Like, maybe you could use Fus once a day.
