Calling BS on this, and anyone that agreed. There are different looks that appeal to different people, but ugly is ugly.
If 80% of the population thinks a woman is beautiful, the other 20% don't think she is ugly, just not their type.
If 80% of the population thinks a woman is ugly, the other 20% don't think she is beautiful, they like her personality, or find her funny, charming or interesting.
This also applies to "decent looking" .
Na. Look at depictions of beauty from other periods of time or in cultures that are without Western mass societal influence. It changes with time and from people to people.
The only thing you're right on is 'really ugly', like a face that doesn't look like it's formed properly (not necessarily to that extreme degree, but it's hard to describe these things in words). No, above that point it is entirely subjective. You've made the dichotomy 'beautiful/ugly' rather than 'beautiful/not beautiful'. I definitely find many people extremely beautiful who most of my friends would find plain or average - it's those same traits that I find
more attractive. Likewise, I've been shown to be the odd one out in the past by not finding certain (often blonde, model looking) women to be beautiful.
Take my avatar for example. I find him beautiful, and that was the point (part of his back story involves him being physically transformed), but I'm certain not everybody will (and not just because most males refuse to acknowledge beauty in other males). Extremes can be found, but most of it is taste. Again, if you don't believe me just look at old paintings
especially the bodies of the women and bear in mind that they painted these women because the painter found them beautiful. Hell, this thread alone proves that we don't all have the same idea of a decent looking woman.
