Skyrim Alduin ending, *sigh*

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 6:15 pm

I was a 52 level Nord, wielding Dragonbane (Legendary) and Ebony armor. Played on Adept setting, and this ending was too easy and probably the worst I've seen in a game. Why have such a great game, and then not work to have a climatic and awesome ending? Boss characters should be the toughest. All I did was cast Dragonrend and then started slashing him up with my sword. He didnt even breathe fire/ice/ or anything one time at me. Then afterwards, no one but the guards acknlowdge my fight. Not even the Jarl of Whiterun. Really, he has no voice lines to give me, after I help his city defeat Alduin?

Is this some type of partial ending that Bethesda gave us, to be finished in an addon or expansion pack?

SIGH

I don't know what was wrong with the end to me. I defeated Alduin as a level 45 Nord warrior, wielding Dragonbane improved to Legendary and using Dragonrend. It wasn't boringly easy and it was a pretty cool fight.

That's not the real ending of Skyrim - it ends when you've collected 20 jazbay graqes and given them to Avrusa Sarethi

It was a challenging fight for me, though not too much of one as I had a tonne of health potions. I fought him at around 39 or so - it sounds as though the game doesn't balance it so well if you're a higher level.

Also, I did have a guard mention what I'd done - he just said something like "After what you've done for Skyrim...we will always be indebted to you". They should have had a crowd awaiting your return and applauding you, that would have been hugely satisfying. You should also be able to eat and drink for free at any tavern, just as a nice touch.

Oh, and you've obviously never completed Karate Kid ; )

Place your bets, will they do the same thing as Broken steel and lonesome road where you have to pay to see the true end of the game?Yeah alduin took a while to kill but he barely did any damage, it's kind of standard in bethesda games that a boss fight just means something with lots of health

Well, you were past the "soft" cap so the fight wouldn't be too hard. Plus, you're playing on Adept (I do, too) so there's also that.

Since we didn't absorb Alduin's soul I figure there's a good chance it's not over.

I do wish the NPCs would respond different after major events, though. :P

The entire game is actually fought inside Alduin's stomach. He ate the world before you were taken to Helgen, and the whole land of Skyrim is completely intact, inside his stomach, with his bodily functions (dragons, draugr, dragon priests, etc) "digesting"(killing) everything he ate

What a twist!

Should have turned the difficulty up for the fight then. Does the rest of the game feel easy for you?

:lmao: Sounds like M. Night Shamamalama's version of Skyrim.

The whole atmosphere of Sovngarde was indeed pretty awesome. And I kind of liked being booted back to Nirn without a fanfare or a huge crowd of people lining up for me to shake their hands and kiss their babies. Maybe I'm just being overly poetic, but it kind of gave me the feeling that, "Yes, Alduin has been defeated, but your adventures aren't over yet, little one. Go explore. Wander the land. There is still much to see."

Complaining about difficulty on anything but Master is kind of pointless. Too easy? Raise the difficulty.

Not that it would change anything, but seriously.

Also, Alduin is killable at level 1.

Alduin is leveled. He is always kill-able no matter what and fight him at level 81.. He has a huge amount of health and actually does a good amount of damage, if your magic resistance and defense is low enough.

A running theme here is people saying that the game was too easy despite not taking measures to increase the difficulty.

I understand if they're saying it's too eay 'out the box', but if that's an issue for them then they should crank it up (there are many means to do so).

And yes, excuse me for not saying it sooner (this culture of not praising that which is done well and only mentioning what you didn't like seems to be rubbing off on me) but yes, I LOVED the Sovengarde sequence. The music, the colours, the atmosphere - and of course the hall of the honoured (I may have gotten the name wrong) were all epic in the pre-internet sense.

I frequent these boards after finishing the game as I'm interested in other people's takes on it, but I'd wholly recommend (to people who by definition cannot be reading) that anyone who's still discovering Skyrim, and indeed any computer game, avoid these places like the bubonic. Internet communities destroy the magic of just plain enjoying something; speak to a gamer who doesn't read internet forums and I *guarantee* they'll be happier than most of us lot. Ever been to the cinema to see a film and one of your friends hates it and runs it down the entire journey home (or while it's still playing)? It taints the experience. I digress though.

Here's my problems with the games ending:

Ive all ready beaten him before on the throat of the world, now I just have to do it again I guess?I mean, sovenguard was cool/epic, but I kind of disliked having to thrash the same boss twise.Maybe its just me. Sigh#1

No rewards.I can now call in an overkill dragon(Ive usualy killed all the bad guys by the time he makes it to the fight) and three crappy nord heros to fight for me?Cool,I guess..?At least some armor, or a weapon, or a house/castle, or.. something for saveing the world would be nice.Hmm, the end of sigh#2 leads me to...

Sigh#3, I just saved the FREAK'N WORLD! Why does no one notice? The guards in the cities have one or two compliments that they'll spout off ONCE, then they go back to their usual rabble, like "keep your hands to your self sneak thief", or"Id be a lot warmer and a lot happyer with a belly full of mead", or"I used to be an adventurer like you, then I.."uggh, not even going to finish that one. Thats it. No celebrations,no feasting/festivals, no good job's,thank you's, [censored] you's, or any thing from any NPC realy.Kind of a huge let down.

So yeah, I sigh* at the ending too.It wasnt all bad, but it could have been better. This game could use some epic dlc, with some good writing/diolog/epic battles.

I'm not subject to being swayed by other people's complaints, but I know what you're saying...self-fulfilling prophecy basically. I have a few minor complaints that I keep to myself for the most part - I will usu just chime in on a thread when someone else is already complaining about it. I know how difficult it is to code a game like this so I tend to not bash every minor bug. I've been lucky in this game because I even been able to do Blood on the Ice with no issues and, on my 2nd character, I did something that is really supposed to mess it up. :o

I start with reading the ENTIRETY of a game's fora. BEFORE installing the game. Nothing I read ruins a game for me. In fact, nothing I read about this game, and am still reading about it, has caused me any problem at all with replaying this game for - hmm.... I don't even know what number I'm up to on replays. This is a TES game.... for people like me, its ENTIRE value is in replay....

I started posting on this forum before I'd been in game a couple of hours. I try to HELP people, I don't care about the spoilers (because spoilers never affect my enjoyment of a game....)

Each to her own.

Sovngarde (and the area before) were great, but the Alduin fight ruined it. And the aftermath ruined it further.

If you're only playing on Adept, don't complain about the difficulty being too easy. It's a lot tougher on Master. That said, for what you'd expect the battle with Alduin to be, all you have to do is stay out of his way while the other three unkillable heroes take him out. I think the last time I went to Sovengarde, I only had to shout Dragronrend and pump Daedric arrows into him from a good distance away although the flying boulders and fireballs did knock my health down to near death levels a few times.

As for the lack of accolades upon return, it cuts both ways. Yes, you did save the world but people soon forget both great and terrible things. As time passes everything gets diminished. But like someone else said, a really cool castle for the Dragonborn would have been sweet. You'd have your own guards and servants, just like the Jarls do. That in itself could have lead to all kinds of things. Train an army to fight the Thalmor, etc. But it's not so... whatever.

Alduin was a tough boss battle for me. Since I'm a mage and accidently used Storm Call (full) at the beginning of the battle, instead of Dragonrend.

The ending was alright. Not perfect. I was greeted by Paarthurnax, Odahviing and Arngeir with warm happiness. I couldn't really ask for more than that.
Although I would have liked to have been able to get my victory greetings from The Blades without getting "WTFPAARTHURNAXISSTILLALIVE?!"
Really a disappointment in that factor. Wish I could of convinced Esbern and the Blades that Paarthurnax wasn't a threat to be hated. But sadly, I couldn't.

So I ignored them and went to High Hrothgar to FUS RO DAH Cicero off the Throat of the World, before switching off my games console and calling it a day.
