Skyrim is almost as repetitive as Oblivion.

Post » Mon Jun 18, 2012 11:43 am

The first few days of Skyrim were a blast. I didn't play nonstop like other people, maybe like 3 hours a day. But even then, I started getting bored with it. I didn't want to admit it though because when the Skyrim trailer came out, I was hoping it would be the rpg that broke my boredom. I talked to my friends about it, and they too are getting bored with Skyrim.

I was hoping that this game wouldn't be repetitive, but after several days, it became just that. Of course it's not as repetitive as Oblivion, but the dungeons in Skyrim all look the same. I thought there would be a lot more creatures, weapons, armors, and uniqueness but there is not. A lot of the quests are very repetitive and boring also. Skyrim to me just isn't that epic as I thought it would be. I would rate it a 7.5/10. Maybe me and my friends are just [censored]. Does anyone else feel this way?

how far into the game are you? play the dark brotherhood or the theives guild quests if you're looking for more excitement. I'm stunned that you think it's repetitive. I haven't had this much fun playing a video game since Morrowind.

Not really for me. The dungeons are varied, the quest lines interesting, the deadric ones are especially good. after playing for 160 hours over three characters I can't say I feel like the game is repetative and boring to be honest.

If you feel that way after playing it for a month, wouldn't you say you've gotten your money's worth out of it and it's time to move on? You can always come back again when you feel like playing, and either continue or reroll. That's what I do when I get a bit bored with a game ;)

yeah this was a major concern of mine I made a few characters and even the raidiant quests send me to a few dungeons that were the same for the last two characters I had what's the point If they keep sending me to the exact same dungeons? also why is there so little focus on quests? there's more interesting dungeons than quests IMO in oblivion there were longer and more interesting quests but bland dungeons.

Very few of the dungeons look the same. Dungeons in Oblivion were either long brown tunnels, long green tunnels or blue ruins. That was it. There was little variation.

Skyrim might not have different colors but theres twists and turns, stairs, different open areas within the dungeons. I don't know how to explain it, but I've been in very few that were looked like the last.

I honestly think it's a fact that Skyrim is not very repetitive in that respect.

As for quests.....I came to realize something a long time ago. Unique quests are that easy to make. Theres only so much you can do. So, for me it's about the originality of the quest story that does it for me. I think Skyrim does a pretty good job.

I'm stunned you don't find it repetitive.

Go into cave/ruin/dungeon to obtain weapon, go into cave/ruin/dungeon to obtain artifact. Feel free to add any other item i may have missed. Go into cave/ruin/dungeon to slay chief/hags or some other thing. Yup, so that's the misc quest taken care of.

Now on to the majority of side quests: Go into cave/ruin/dungeon to obtain weapon, go into cave/ruin/dungeon to obtain artifact. Feel free to add any other item i may have missed. Go into cave/ruin/dungeon to slay chief/hags or some other thing.

The dark brotherhood quest is arguably the poorest guild quest line in the game. Thieves, yeah, i agree, it's pretty interesting and i did enjoy it. In fact, i thought it was better than the one in oblivion, but that's just me.

I would like to point out that i didn't once use the word 'ALL' when describing the repetitive nature of the quests available, i used the word 'majority'.

Thats a little.....I don't know the word for it, but you can narrow down any game like that.

FPS = go down corridor shoot bad guys....go down corridor shoot bad guys

RTS = get supplies - make town - build stuff - attack

I looked at things the way you did for a while. You'll get out of it.

It may come across as I'm dissing the game, but I'm not, I really am not. I actually enjoy the game, however, I can't for the life of me understand why anyone would be stunned when someone pipes up saying it's repetitive. Do i enjoy the game - yes, however, i can see where people are coming from when they say it's repetitive.

I'm just saying you can't generalize games like that or yeah, you'll surely become jaded and miss out on all the little things.

Comparing Skyrim to Oblivion is like comparing a lady bug with a fly. One is harmless, the other is annoying.

Do the Daedric quests, they are leap and bounds better than OB and MW

I can't play Skyrim for long sittings either. It does get boring and repetitive, but that is with all games. Play a shooter and it gets repetitive just as easily.

I wouldn't go so far as to say the dungeons are all the same, but there are more repeated elements than I hoped for. When I saw the first one with an internal forest I was like ... wow! ... but now it's looking more like variant #3 or something and shows up much too frequently to be unique. Also, even the "inside" dungeons all end up borrowing elements and instead of dungeons they're full of caverns like I'd expect (and see) in caves.

Not identical, but I think there are a lot of borrowed elements, even from Bethesda's Fallouts.

Yes, you can generalize all the games like that, but in Skyrim it just... shows, it naturally springs to mind. That's the difference between a good game and a bad one. You can't really quantify it, but there it is. Skyrim has no soul.

I don't understand, I'm actually saying I'm stunned that someone is stunned that someone else finds it repetitive. You're asking me a question that basically backs up my point, when you yourself are saying every game is repetitive (or at least insinuating it), so you're acknowledging Skyrim is repetitive too.

Was i being negative about its repetitive nature? I don't think i was.

Edit: Add to that, every game is repetitive to varying degrees and different players are gonna find different games more repetitive than others. Some people are gonna reach the repetitive boredom threshold before others no matter which game we're talking about.

this too in oblivion magic wasn't repetitive at all but now In skyrim I find it way more repetitive than anything else other builds magic was amazingly diverse in oblivion and combat was Interesting because you had so many options In oblivion i found paralyze cheap and never used now in skyrim I have to use it because using destruction is useless and my dead thralls won't die if I paralyze so I find myself using the same spell over and over and over in oblivion i had dozens of spells for different situation on skyrim I have 3-4

Skyrim's dungeons are so much better than the generic, souless slogs that Oblivion gave us. I'd say the dungeons are the best part of Skyrim.

I'm starting to get bored, but hey..it's been 80 hours of play so yeah that's normal.

I know from previous experience that I will probably be back in a couple of months and get 100+ more hours out of it.

I think it's MUCH less repetitive than Morrowind Or Oblivion.

Any open world RPG of large size is by nature repetitive, I think Skyrim does a decent job of keeping it interesting.

Anyway, you have to remember that TES isn't like ME or something. (Even though I love ME)
The missions in games like that are all scripted events, TES is a sandbox that's about quantity and player freedom. The quests can't all be unique because there are hundreds of them.

If that sort of thing isn't your thing (and there aint nothing wrong with that) maybe TES just isn't the right game for you, ya know? If you want to free roam and explore but aren't as in to some of the minutia or "repetitive" missions, try playing RDR or something. I usually only play RPG's but that game had me hooked for a long time.
