Skyrim Dead-is-Dead Thread V

In thread IV, the land of Skyrim experienced an infestation of vampires! Be sure to keep garlic on your character (if you're not a vamp).

This posting continues the grand tradition of our Skyrim Dead is Dead playthroughs. There is only one rule: Dead means dead. But in case you're unfamiliar with this play style and would like a bit more detail, see the http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1291778-the-skyrim-dead-is-dead-thread-iii/.

Also, if you're posting storylines that may describe plot elements of the game, be sure to enclose those writings in a SPOILER box.

In keeping with the style first started by SENIOR CINCO, and explained in his original threads linked above, below begins our tombstones. Please note that you must post notice, of starting a new character, for them to be eligible for the Skyrim Memorial.

Sorry for my absence over the past few days, but RL intruded... Anyway, I've now caught up with my placing of headstones.

Syrion, my Imperial, has also been slacking off. He remains at his 8th cycle, but Lydia has joined him and they are now hunting and running small errands around Whiterun. If Syrion dies, then I have a carrier pigeon ready to get word to a powerful friend of his to come and lay waste to the deathdealer(s).

This is exciting. I have never created a dead is dead character before, but I thought it was about time to give it a shot! So let me tell you about ...

http://img862.imageshack.us/img862/7626/screenshot50.jpg, a pure Nord and proud of it, born in the Imperial City, in the year 173 4E. Though young, his story is long, and full of many romances, many battles, and a personal war with the Thalmor, about which I shall not go into here. To make it all short, he was once an Imperial soldier. He then rebelled against the Empire, and his own father, a blacksmith for the Empire, and in the night escaped Cyrodiil on horseback. He set off for Skyrim, in heart and soul his true home, with the intentions of joining the Stormcloak rebellion. His horse died in the chill of the mountains, and Orngrar was forced to continue on foot, when he was captured in an Imperial ambush. We all know how it goes from there ...

I've developed Orngrar to be as close to a "true" Nord warrior as I can. Somewhat of a "tank", if you will, he wears heavy armor and a shield at all times, except when in the privacy of his home. Although he isn't fond of blacksmithing, he is extraordinarily talented at it, and proud of what he creates. Therefore, he wears only the armor he has crafted himself, and wields only the weapons he himself has fashioned. At the moment, he is using scraps of armor and weapons he has found, because he hasn't quite had the time to work at the forge. He looks somewhat like a scavenger, at the moment, and isn't too happy about it, but he's soon going to fashion his own equipment.

Most importantly, Orngrar will not use magic, magical artificats, scrolls, enchanted weaponry, or even so much as touch a soul gem. In some part, he echoes the feelings of many throughout Skyrim, but it's also due to personal experiences in his past. He knows some magic, but he will not use it, ever, not to save his life. And he is extremely distrustful of anyone who wields it. Therefore, he will not work with mages unless it is of dire importance, or if he is being instructed by someone he respects and trusts. He does not consider the Thu'um to be magic, and is in fact quite proud of his ability to use it.

Orngrar is also very uncomfortable with the idea of entering tombs. He considers them sacred, and prefers not to disturb the rest of his ancestors. And he most certainly will not steal from a tomb. But if he must enter a tomb as part of an important quest, then he will enter, but he will not touch anything but the floor beneath his feet. And if he can help it, he will not disturb the dead; he is very respectful of the dead, it is just the way he is. This of course limits the number of dungeons I can play in, and it leaves some shouts out of my reach until he has a good reason to go in them. But it makes it interesting, to me, to look but not touch.

Oh, and he is very faithful to Talos, of course. Though he hates magic and all, he does respect the Nine, especially Talos. The only kind of magical artifact he will have on his person, is an Amulet of Talos, which he wears proudly around his neck at all times.

As of right now, he is in Whiterun with his housecarl, Lydia. He's setting to work on finding some materials to craft a set of armor for himself. And then it's off to Windhelm, to have a chat with Ulfric Stormcloak. :D

Let's see what happens!

From Rommel's journal:

18th of Last Seed, 4E 201

Dibella's teets! My luck's on the mend! There I was with my head on the block, axe poised to fall when in swoops a dragon! I couldn't believe my eyes but quickly got my wits about me when the flames started and in the confusion made my way to a tower with one of the nord fellows from the cart.
After a bit o'slinking and slashing we made our way out through some underground tunnels. He's got family up north in a village by the name of Riverside and plans to lay up there for a spell. Sez I'm welcome to join him and I may just do that as I've quite a bit of excess gear to unload. A few coins in my purse and mead in hand would not be an unwelcome finish to this day. But first, I think I hear a river not far off and as I'm covered in gore and soot I believe a bath is in order...

...as I made my way toward the river i spotted a black robed figure skulking in the woods round some altar. I couldn't see what they were up to but there was a rank air about the whole business so I crouched low and snuck in for a better look.
Alas! Lady luck, the 'ol hag, spurns me still. A stick snapped beneath my boot and the foul figure turned toward me and drew a blade. I loosed a pair of arrows to no effect as he closed and summoned some glowing magical hound which then lunged at me. I dropped my bow, drew my recently acquired imperial swords, lept over the hound and charged at its master. The hound took the opportunity to rake my back and chew my calves but the robed man fell quickly to my blades and the beast dissipated back to whence it had come.

As I finished my search of the bloody altar I heard the howl of wolves not far off. I scanned the area and spotted 5 or 6 of the beasts pursuing an elk, to the poor creature's demise. The pack then trotted off in one direction and I the other.

In sight of the refreshing waters of the river I spied a lone figure with a bow and horse on the road below me. A bandit? I snuck in behind him a could not help but notice the jingle of his coin purse. One quick grab and be off I thought, but just as reached for the pouch he turned, saw what I was about and drew his blade. I did likewise.

We exchanged many blows and I briefly considered fleeing back into the trees but then I would no doubt have fallen to his arrows. In the end he went down and pleaded for his life, but I've been taken in by that one before so I ran him through. Searching his belongings it seems he was a simple hunter. Today, however, he was the prey. For my part, I'd call it a good hunt. I walked on, contentedly, 44 septims richer, a new bow on my back and a horse to boot!

I jumped in the river at long last and as all the day's grime was washed away I felt that now my new life was truly beginning. The river's current carried away the soot, the blood, the bounty on my head, and here, in Skyrim, I am reborn...

A few hours of daylight remaining, I hopped on my new steed and headed south along the river. I thought I could see a bit of smoke not far off and hoped to find a buyer for my excess gear.
As I came into view of a small town I also spotted some ruins a bit further along. I dismounted and crept towards them. There was a pair of dead bodies just at the edge of the area. As I looked them over for coin or anything useful I heard a buzzing as of a great cloud of insects. No sooner had I thought the thought than there before me stood a spriggin! Wreathed in a cloud of buzzing stinging biting bugs. I turned and fled towards the town but my vision was dimming and my strength fled...
I quaffed the 4 or 5 healing potions I'd picked up in Helgen, sheathed my blades and used my weak arcane healing abilities as I ran...I'm not sure when the spriggin gave up chase and the cloud dissipated but I staggered into the town, Falkreath, more dead than alive, found the inn and collapsed into a warm bed...

Perhaps I'll seek out that Nord fellow on the morrow.

@Mistaken: A fine start! Long live Orngrar!

@Undeaddragon: Married to Aela the Huntress? Now there's a match that is sure to be exciting. :ermm: Let us know when she kills you dead...

@ Tibs: Memorial is being carved. Killed by a mudcrab? That has to be one of the saddest endings for a DiD character.

Still playing Amarie Rane (announced on Thread IV). She is using Riften as a home base, has accidentally made contact with the Dark Brotherhood and will pursue that quest line. Lydia is cooling her heels in Dragonsreach (let the Jarl support her bread habit) and Iona is the companion for now (she's all mushy over her new set of Dwarven armor). Amarie is currently Level 13, and is proving adept at the frontal assault as the preferred tactic, much to the dismay of her housecarl, but much to the benefit of her Light Armor skill. I added the JaySuS Swords and Balanced Magic mods last night. Haven't had a chance to put them through the wringer yet, but I'm hoping they'll be non-overpowering additions.

I think I'm going to give this a go. Being a chronic re-roller anyway it just fits my play style. I put several hundred hours into Oblivion and never finished the main quest. So I'm going to wipe all my save games uninstall /reinstall the game to clean up mods when the patch and CK are released.

Kasil is being deleted. He did not die, but I screwed up and saved over an old file, turns out due to a glitch it was the one I needed to fix a problem that occurred.

I will be starting a new DiD as soon as I figure out what direction I want to go with it.

started a new DiD character.

Name: Attila

Race: Nord, M

Play-style: sword and board

difficulty: master (subject to change if I find encounters utterly frustrating, excluding death of course. After all, Dead is Dead.)

Attila has gone with Hadvar and is still in the armory in Helgen Keep (started the character this morning and only got a half hour in). He's delaying picking up the armor there, and is instead taking full advantage of Hadvar's god-like pacifism and invincibility to become more lethal with one handed weapons, and is using the block bash to increase block skills too. Currently level 7. Will update as time goes by.

Okay decided on a new DiD character:

Fohk the Forgemaster
Orc, M
Primaries: Smithing
Secondaries: Two Handed / Heavy Armor / Block

Fohk was a legion armorer and weaponsmith during the Great War, but since then he has been very unhappy. He has heard of this world renowned smith, Eorland Grey-Mane and his skyforge. So he decided he would come north test his mettle against Grey-Mane's but even before making it to Skyrim, he had seen the quality of Grey-Mane's workmanship and knew he had a long ways to go. He then decided he would visit the orc strongholds here in Skyrim and practice his art. Knowing that he is more or less broke, he knows that he will need to work the mines for his ore and take his time learning his craft before approaching Grey-Mane. Unfortunately in crossing the border he got swept up by the legion for being AWOL. Needless to say, they frown on that very heavily here on the frontier and apparently it is punishable by death.

Actually this could end up being a very boring character, but I am guaranteed to outlevel my combat abilities. So I think it will still be very challenging for me. Will play it on Master or maybe expert if I see I am struggling too much early on against weak opponents. He will be totally reliant on healing potions(which he must buy) and time waited. He will cook and eat, he will not fast travel as that is where most of his combat will come from early on. He will not use any non-Orc follower, he despises mages as they tend to make his works of art a mute point in combat. He also is completely devoid of any subtlety. Also, Fohk is illiterate, so no reading books for skill gains. Meaning he will charge into battle, no sneaking, no lockpicking. I am placing alot of restrictions in order to make up for the overpoweredness of smithing.

He just left Helgen and after clearing out a mine near Riverwood he will be setting off for one of the strongholds. Not sure which one is the easiest to get to without the use of a carriage, but think we will try the one near Markarth, Dushnikh Yal.

Well Fohk's lifespan was quite short indeed. Fohk had safely navigated wolves(6 at one time once) and necromancers(2 at once) plus skeletons, badits, skeevers and an one mudcrab to make it to Dushnikh Yal. Once there he agreed to deliver a package for one of the strongholders. He headed north towards Karthwasten, but was ambushed by several Forsworn(didn't even get the count before he died). He did not survive.

Here lies Fohk the Forgemaster

Born 4E 165
Died 4E 201

Ill prepared for the dangers of Skyrim,
Fohk left behind his fires to chase a dream,
But it was not to be, as he fell to the Forsworn

Ahh my first Dead is Dead Character, I have been looking forward to this. Let me introduce you to Sire Randall Fleetfoot. Probably the most cowardly Woodelf in the land of Skyrim. He skulks in the shadows, he is completely untrained in the art of combat and thus does not carry a single weapon or wear armour of any kind. He can often be seen beside a companion, who will usually earn their coin by doing all the dangerous fighting. He has a penchant for shiny things however and will often forget his crippling fear of the dark to venture into an unexplored tomb to find his next treasure. He is confident, but only to the least imposing of characters. He is talented in alchemy and his love of shiny coins has made him an experienced pickpocket. Also he dabbles in illusion magic, preferring to have enemies battle themselves than get involved. His years of running from fights and hauling loot has given him an ungodly amount of Stamina that will help him get out of harms way should he be detected. His life will be a short one in the rugged world of Skyrim, but Randall has heard of the riches to be found in the world and no dragon infestation or civil war shall stop him...

Anyway, yeah I plan to make a completely non-combat character for my first Dead is Dead. That doesn't mean he won't kill, he is a coward not a fool, he will just have to be creative about it. He doesn't stand a chance in hand to hand and is a lousy archer. The perk that allows him to slip poison into the pockets of characters will be invaluable, lets hope he survives long enough to get it. As I said above I will mostly be focusing on stamina and magic for illusion.

Character sheet:

Randall Fleetfoot:

Alchemy
Sneak
Speechcraft
Pickpocket
Lockpicking
Illusion

Stamina

I am sure you will see my tombstone soon :P
