Skyrim Dead-is-Dead Thread V

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 5:16 pm

I accidentally mistyped a little bit. I was trying to say that I'm new with this Dead Is Dead gametype and was wondering would this kind of build work? It's kind of hard for me to write english since I haven't studied it much.
I see. I also see no reason why you could not be very effective with what you have selected. As long as you have a strong Damage skill and a strong Defensive skill planned, you should be fine.

EDIT : Playing DID is not so much a matter of the build itself, as it is a matter of the WAY you play the build. Go sloooooow. That is probably the most important success tip. Rushing into a situation is the number one cause of an untimely death. This usually occurs early game for most. Which completely nullifies the build, because you haven't had time to build them in the first place.

I would also like to add.. DO NOT JUMP OUT OF WINDOWS ! :) my first DiD committed this sin.. she was doing well until I jumped from a tower window and was shocked ( and almost cried) when she ended up a broken pile of bones on the ground

another DiD tip: followers are key. Use them. Additional carrying space, damage, and can be excellent distractions.

yet another DiD tip: do not power level crafting skills. If your crafting skills dramatically outclass your combat skills, it really makes your job more difficult, as your foes will be scaling in combat abilities and difficulty regardless of what skills you increase. Make sure you balance them. Because you've picked mostly mage powers, this may work to your advantage, as they normally take longer to level than crafting skills, meaning the 20% bonus from the mage stone will help you balance your skills.

My hat`s off to you guys. I`m still too scared to play DiD, even though I`m pretty hardcoe about everything else...

Getting killed after getting to level 10 or 20 and having to start over is tough... Realistic, but just too tough for me t the moment.

I feel so humble... :sadvaultboy:

Trypanosoma cruzi is dead as dead can be. She was killed when Lydia mysteriously disappeared, leaving me to fight a 'roided up Silverhand boss on my own. One minute she was behind me entering the tower of a broken down fortress, the next she wasn't. I thought she was there though. I snuck up the winding stairs of the tower, and saw the boss. He was a sitting duck in a chair with his back turned to me. I loaded my Orcish Bow of Frost with a poisoned arrow and hit him square in the back for 3X damage. I then turned to run down the stairs in order to let Lydia bear the brunt of the assault; but she'd evaporated.

Instead of just running away I chose to fight him. I'd amassed 20+ health potions and had already done a fair amount of damage to the guy so I figured I could take him. It was so close. I'd take damage, then down enough food and/or potions to get back to full health. His health had gotten down to the point where it looked like one more hit from my steel mace would kill him. I bashed him with my shield and staggered him. I then downed enough skooma to overdose a walrus and made one last power attack... and then Trypanosoma was dead. I didn't even see his attack.

Where Lydia went, I know not where. She'd been acting weird during the entire engagement; running off like she'd seen other things to fight and not following me.Maybe she saw a wolf in the distance and decided that was a higher priority than being "my sword and my shield".

I was tempted to reload and call it a glitch due to the strange disappearence of my follower. But I could have ran away and found her so my Redguard's death is on me... and osheao. I was playing at Expert level when the end came. ;) Also, I completely forgot to use my Adrenaline Rush power which almost certainly would have won me the battle.

But it was the best DiD run thus far.

Trypanosoma cruzi

Race: Redguard
Gender: Female
Build: Warrior/Archer/Heavy Armor
DiD at Level 14

Silverhand, be not proud. She was better than you

heitinga- a dark paladin. great choice! i'm going to have to try that type, for sure.

blade watcher- my suggestion, is to just realize beforehand that this is a DiD character that'll probably die at some point and is NOT your regular characters that you normally use. you'll still have those character saves, but, now at any time or whenever, you can play this DiD save for a short period of time.

i know i have this huge investment in these characters, but, if/when they die i can start up with another one with a completely new build. it's more about experiencing this phenomenol immersion into the game than using these characters to experience all that can be done in skyrim. you'll still have those game saves.

bacillus- i don't know about you but that sounds like you experienced a glitch (lydia disappearing) that directly led to your death. i think i'd have probably let her live on, lol...

Decided against giving you all a blow by blow account of all of Wilhelm's exploits. I will try to focus on posting my harrowing or entertaining encounters.

I hope you are getting a feel for my friend's personality. He believed that every good looking woman wanted him. Yes, that was the real friend. I always thought is was so cool. He preferred blonde haired blue eyed women with a large chest and large "breeders" hips. The hardest part of rp'ing my friend is he did not believe in ever running from a fight. So I am going to be trying to avoid getting him in over his head.

Updating Wilhelm has completed Bleak Falls Barrow, joined the Stormcloaks, retrieved a certain crown, visited Dawnstar to mine and visit the power stone on the side of a mountain nearby. Will keep you updated and hopefully have a good story to tell on the next update.

update: Ricimer is still kicking. He recently slew the dragon attacking whiterun's west watch tower. Haven't made much progress beyond that. Been quite busy in real life.

Well I`ll consider those ideas. making a second DiD character to go along with my main is not my usual way (I usually make one dedicated one and I do invest a lot in him), but it could work... thanks for the hints.

What difficulty are you on when doing a DiD?

Im waiting for the GECK and some nice mods and will start one too. I reload a lot when I fail pickpocketing or a fight doesnt go as well as planned and no im at a point (lvl 45) where the game gets too easy, even on master.

Time to do something new

The difficulty is your choice. This post will tell you what you want to know. http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1291778-the-skyrim-dead-is-dead-thread-iii/page__view__findpost__p__19471250

EDIT : Ha! The GECK...that's funny. I was commenting on how they borrowed that term from the FO series.

From Rommel's journal:
25th of Last Seed, 401

The past few days I have traveled a good deal between Whiterun, Windhelm and Riverside. I've even made a trip, against my will, out to Dawnstar.
I've had several harrowing escapes from Death and each taught me a vital lesson that I'm sure not to forget.

First, as Faen and I snuck up to the Valtheim Towers, I tried to snipe a bandit patrolling the bridge. My shot went over their head, alerting them to our presence, and soon the entire gang was rushing across the bridge, out the door and coming for us. (actually, ive been having a lot of trouble with archery on this character. In the past, my arrows hit right about where I aimed my crosshair, but now they go way too high... anybody know what might cause that? or a way to adjust? on pc.)
We dropped two before they closed with us but that left 4 or 5, all of which rushed Faen.
I popped off a couple more arrows and 2 bandits peeled off for me. One was the target of
our mission, the leader of
these scum, and I nearly soiled myself when I saw her closing with me brandishing a massive 2handed sword. I ran back up the road, turning periodically to fire.
Thanks to a pair of skeevers taking down her follower, the odds were now even so I stopped, switched to my blades and went toe to toe with her. It was a close contest but she went down just as Faen came trotting back, having finished off the rest of the bandits. I was relieved to see him as I was certain he'd be hacked to pieces and more bandits would be on me any second.

Lessons: Don't rely on my bow. I'm no marksman.
Don't like the odds? Run.

As we were now about half way to Windhelm, we decided to pop in for a visit.
On the way some slimebag khajit tried to sell me skooma. I cut him down and took his entire stash instead. Never touch the junk myself but it should yield a nice bit o'coin.
Spoiler

In Windhelm I heard some kid was trying to contact the dark brotherhood, without success.
I paid him visit, acting the part of an assassin, figuring I could collect the requisite fee without actually doing the deed.
But when I heard his tale I decided to pay his mark a visit afterall.
In his room I noticed an intact human heart as part of his ritual.
I've heard they possess magic properties useful in alchemy and know of a few smithing patterns that utilize them as well.
I grabbed it. Bringing my count up to two as I'd found one on a dead necromancer on the way here.

The kid's target was in Riverside, which is a pretty long hike, so I hired a carriage to take us there.
It was a good trip. I killed the evil wretch for the boy and felt pretty good about it.
I also managed to gain acceptance in the thieves guild. I've done a few profitable jobs for them and best of all, I now have access to a fence for all my stolen goods!
Since it's almost on the way to Whiterun, I figured Id pay the old geesers at High Hrothgar a visit.
On the road west we passed beneath a run down old fortress. As we carelessly strolled by on the road many shouts arose from within and soon hounds and brigands beyond count were streaming out the gate.
We fought as we ran and, once again, survived by the skin of our teeth.

Lesson: Never let your guard down. Assume every structure is housing something or someone hostile and proceed with caution.

We arrived at a small village at the foot of Hrothgar. We decided to get a night's sleep before ascending the snowy mountain and put up at the local inn.
Spoiler

I woke in a strange room, groggy and vision blurred. Drugged.
Sitting atop a shelf was a small lady in leather that claimed I had wronged her organization when I'd killed that wretch in Riverside.
Said I'd stolen their contract so now I owed them.
I'm loathe to recount the details but suffice to say I repaid them with interest.
She was happy and invited me to join her "family".
I neither accepted nor declined but bid her farewell and went home to Whiterun.
The old men will have to wait a little longer. I'm tired and the work I did for the thieves guild has earned me enough to buy that little house for sale next to the smith...

On the way home a dragon descended on us. Fool beast also attacked a giant, some mammoths and wolves.
It died but the giant, apparently worked up into a rage, came at us.
I took a few pot shots at it from atop a high rock. However, as it closed the distance between us I noticed that compared to a giant, my rock was not so high afterall. I called to Faen and we ran. And ran. And downed a stamina potion and ran some more.

Lessons: If a dragon, a giant and some mammoths are fighting, be on your way.
And, they don't call them "giants" for nothing. They're big.
And, no, that rock isn't high enough.

I`ve just been reading the list of the dead in the graveyard and how they died. Some of it`s quite funny and some sad.

It`s actually quite immersive. I feel like the next time I run Skyrim I`m following in the footseps of many adventurers before me.

Whoa, what's up with the silence around here?

Se?or Cinco, did you get your PC ready?

Well, my HDD crashed and burned, I have tried to recover data from it but had no success.
I have lost all my characters, except for 2 old ones which I had somehow saved them on a stick ages ago...
I'm now thinking if I'll start another lotto char. or a peaceful one OR a Turtle Mage. I'm leaning towards the Turtle.

Not yet. I am still in parts selection mode. I have completely changed my mind 10 times already. There are just sooo many options, and I really don't know what I want to get. I am scheduled for a MRI on my lower spine next week, so that will most likely delay things. Those are not cheep. But no worries, I hope to be up by Mar 6. (ME3)

As far as Skyrim... I am so hyped about going to PC and I have so many ideas about what I want to mod for my characters, I just can't get into the current ones. I really want to isolate a castle or cave for HoB. It's like continuing to play a demo when I have the game sitting on the shelf.

Sorry about the thermal nuclear meltdown. I'm sure your new chars will be exciting.

I've been sidetracked with downloading the new Beth HD textures, getting used to the Steam Workshop, and playing with the Creation Kit. It's a great time for Skyrim! ;)

After the death of Syrion, my last DiD character, I haven't yet started a new one, but I'm considering the role/classes that I might be interested in. Maybe another paladin type, or a spellsword.

My D-i-D characters were basically retired, and I was waiting for the CK to come out before I started any more. Now that it has I've been working on a couple of overhaul mods, which are basically finished except for tweaks based on play-testing. I did start a new D-i-D character last night, though, who will be my first test subject. Am playing on Master now, so it should be interesting to see if he can survive against top-end opposition. My newest character:

Name: Swamp-Strider
Race: Argonian
Style: 2H+Destruction, with Heavy Armor

He's something of a savage sort, and his equipment will reflect that. Initial gear is Iron, of course, to be followed by Orcish and eventually Dragonplate. He only uses Greatswords and will stop at Orcish, although he'll still make the better ones for sale. I haven't yet decided if he will use Restoration or not, although he probably will due to lack of choice, as it doesn't really fit. Haven't decided if he'll go full-suite Destruction or specialize in Fire or Lightning yet, but probably the latter as it will be secondary to melee.

He got out of Helgen and made it to Riverwood (followed Hadvar as I wanted the free Smithing supplies from Alvor), where he did some crafting and selling before setting out toward Whiterun at Alvor's behest. While selling some stuff at the general store, he found out they'd been robbed recently but the only thing taken was a golden claw; the owner was clearly desperate to get it back, as it was some sort of heirloom or something and he didn't want to lose it, and was willing to pay well for its return. Swamp-Strider gladly agreed to get it back; he could always use more ale money, and raiding tombs didn't bother him. Besides, it sounded like a pretty easy task, since the Draugr weren't particularly dangerous to someone heavily armored provided you didn't get swarmed (which was always a risk, but generally one well worth taking).

Little did he know...
