Skyrim Game Jam! #2

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 4:40 am

this is uncharateristic of me but

If you don't want to pay for niche features (trust me I understand I hate money grubbing) why do you want them free?
You just answered the question. The only way I'd pay for this if it was all grouped together at $5. I just prefer good storytelling and exploration.

I want this, this is all the things I was hoping skyrim would have.

I don't care if it's free or a small dlc price, I will pay it, and I don't buy DLC often, but this stuff is so worth it.

Especially mounted combat/spears/seasons.

you're acting as if bethesda isn't in development of an entire expansion, which they are, and have stated..we'll get a huge questline and probably a new area to explore. but if this comes out too, i'll pay for it, as will most.

I very well know that they are making big DLC. I just want storytelling to be the main meal. Features should be the side dish.

yeah I agree, but I don't have your resolve. the moment if ever that **** hits the market I'm going for it. everything shown and even more so that hasn't been shown is a LOAD off for modders and a BOON for Console Players.

I'm not going to pay for "niche" features. I want a new well-designed questline with a new area to explore that includes these features on the side.

While I myself am onboard the Story-first bandwagon, I see no reason for such DLC to be handed out for free.
We just got our freebie, the Hi Res Texture pack.

Release it as DLC, charge us.
Some will be willing to pay more than $5.
Others won't.

So, business as usual.

Some things make more sense to be free since they would be features of the base engine and game systems. Other things would make more sense as DLC since they would need to be introduced in the context of new quests and areas.

Kill Cams for Magic and Ranged Combat
New follower commands for combat style, training, distance, equipment, etc.
Set favorites for followers
Screen Space Ambient Occlusion

Kinect Shouts

DLC
Spears
Dark dungeons
Stealth enhancements such as water arrows and Assassin’s Vision
Guards can re-light darkened areas
Paralysis Runes
Dungeon enhancements like hanging structures and moving platforms
Water currents in dungeons
Adoption
Build you own home…complete with skeleton butler!
Spell combinations! Flame + Raise Zombie = Conjure Flame Atronach, Fear + Healing = Drain Health
Goblins
High Level Draugr
Waygate fast-travel

That video made my head do many confusing and contradicting things. Spears. SPEARS! I want EVERYTHING in that video released as a patch, DLC, or free DLC (except for maybe the Dragon Mount). And that is, of course, after they fix the thousands of bugs that no doubt plague those features.

Yeah, just imagine the possibilities if the game didn't succumb to the dreaded Consolitis disease...

It's times like this that I nearly feel guilty for playing on console.

Honestly though, how the hell is the absence of spears from the game because of "consolitis"?
You PC users confuse me with your logic sometimes.

I′m not a fan of consoles but you can′t blame them this time. All this stuf looks like it could be done even on coles..

I suppose it could. And consolitis is not the fault of the console or its owner. It is a mindset that the developer adopts which means PC players end up with a game that could have been much more than it is if it was developed for PC first and then ported to consoles, not the other way around. Instead they limit everything to fit within the capabilities of the console and then port than watered down mess to the PC. Even console players would get better games if developers created the best that they could and then scale it down to fit other platforms. They might have been surprised what consoles are capable of if they did this.

My list of WANT SO FRICKING BAD from that video (dont care if its DLC or not, I will fricking get it, no questions asked)

Should be in Skyrim since release and/or free and/or MUST GIVE TO US NAO (insert random madness here)
Seasonal Foilage - Seriously.
Snow Footprints - This can fall under Seasonal Foilage, since its still about the weather. Seriously.
Flow-based Water Shader - You guys already shattered the scenery porm barrier with whats currently available, why hold back?!
Kill-cams for ranged/magic - You did this in Fallout3, why remove it?
Stealth enhancements, Guards can relight areas - DEAR GOD YES. Please Bethesda, throw us sneakthieves a bone here. We dont want stupid AI to stab. We want challenge! People already make fun of the AI going "Must be the wind.." with the player's arrow freshly stuck in the AI's head...
Follower enhancements - Do I need to reiterate the already mountainous pile of complains about follower AI? Please, Bethesda, this had to be in the game since launch.
Mounted combat - There's simply no excuse for not having this in vanilla Skyrim, Bethesda. Seriously. Give. This. To. Us. Now.
Verlet surfaces for non-rigid objects - Curtains! Capes! Cloaks! Flowing hair! Seriously Bethesda, you're holding back WAY too much.

Things I am willing to wait for/pay for DLC
Dungeon enhancements, water in dungeons, darker dungeons - Brand new epic-level dungeon complete with epic loot? I smell DLC in the works here...
Goblins - New enemy type to go with the new DLC dungeon...
Epic New Mounts/Dragon Mounts - Part of the epic loot in the new dungeon?
Lycanthropy/Vampire jams - DLC, totally DLC. Werewolf DLC to go with my Vampire Lord DLC? YESPLS

Please, Bethesda, you've got potential from just that single week to extend the DLC, both free and paid for Skyrim till beyond the end of the world (up to 2013).

I don't see why we can't have all of that, or why it wasn't in the game in the first place.

It's sad, but i'm certain that none of these features will be released for the game. I wonder though, if this can all be done with the CK alone, and what the modders make of this.

why would it be free, it is dev time and dev work with new ideas that they didn't have time for in the original release. that's dlc. so it'll cost something, and we'll pay it.

Pardon for my rudeness but this should've been in the game when it was released! This is an almost $60 game for goodness sakes. Maybe they shouldn't had released it if the developers wasn't finish with the game. They received their money from purchases.

  • Spears - this should make a lot of people happy, and the animations seemed alright from what I saw
  • Seasonal Foliage - I definitely liked this; I just hope there's also some other seasonal effects added to environment
  • Flow-based Water Shader - looks okay
  • Kill Cams for Magic and Ranged Combat - uhhh....well....I'm not all that impressed with melee kill cams....
  • Stealth enhancements such as water arose and Assassin’s Vision - YES! YES!
  • Guards can re-light darkened areas - ditto
  • Paralysis Runes - I like this; I'd also like to see Frenzy runes
  • Dungeon enhancements like hanging structures and moving platforms - so long as they take care of any possible clipping glitches
  • Water currents in dungeons - might need adjustments, but could be funny if it affects AI enemies
  • Dark dungeons - depends on how it affects AI
  • New follower commands for combat style, training, distance, equipment, etc. - much needed
  • Set favorites for followers - likewise
  • Adoption - ehh....
  • Build you own home…complete with skeleton butler! - I'd rather have a Daedric butler
  • Spell combinations! Flame + Raise Zombie = Conjure Flame Atronach, Fear + Healing = Drain Health - as long as it includes more dynamic spell effects
  • Goblins - ok
  • High Level Draugr - no comment
  • Waygate fast-travel - I guess it's like propylon chambers
  • Epic new mounts - as long as they fix the issues with mounts currently in the game
  • Mounted combat - .....like with this feature
  • Dragon Mounts - Odahviing!
  • Soulbug Familiar - no comment
  • Kinect Shouts - no use for me
  • Screen Space Ambient Occlusion - couldn't tell what that was
  • Enhanced Underwater Visuals - maybe....
  • Snow Footprints - sounds good to me
  • Verlet surfaces for non-rigid objects…like the Fat Giant - uhhh...what?
  • Ice & Fire Arrows - nice!
  • Werebear! - it's canon
  • Lycanthropy Perk Tree - definitely sounds like a step in the right direction, but they should probably add a vampirism tree and possibly Dragonborn tree
  • Vampire Feeding - no comment
  • Become a flying Vampire Lord - animation needs work
  • Vampire imp minions - no comment
  • Mudcrab animation tweaks - couldn't tell what was tweaked besides the giant enemy crab

i'm not overly sure some of these things can even be added to the consil versions. The water effects (both above and bellow) seem like they would need to edit the core game files as opposed to being tagged on. but the additions seem awsome (as ive said many times)

Before I start, id like to say im a Xbox layer of kyrim, however i do have a PC capable of running skyrim with mods if i wanted

I skipped this thread and just started to reply, so if i bring up anything that was heavily discussed i apologize (i read closed forums instead)

All of these things are great, some are enhancements, some are content, some are just fun things. There are however, some things peole have overlooked on the toic of, "will they be released officially"

First point

Todd Howard telling the world that their DLC will be Big, not mini DLC, and also not necessarily content, but they want to enhance the game experience.

what this means that DLC (Paid) wont simlpy be, sears in game for 5 bucks, wearwolf tree for 2 bucks, etc. If any of these things were to be added, it would be included in a GIant DLC/Expansion, so requesting one or two items for a quick release unfortunately not really gonna happen (but hey, im not all knowing)

Skyrim WILL have Kinect Shouts (eventually)

This is a very bold statement, but let me explain my reasoning. Sales and Marketing. With the introduction of Kinect, Microsoft could Resell the game with the little purple label, (whether they wait till GOTY or sooner) Bethesda would increase sells. More money for Bethesda is what Zenimax ad Bethesda wants unfortunately and fortunately (more money, better games and risks) Im sorry PC and PS3 Players, but i WAnt this feature as well. I can't wait till i can shout FUS RO DAH to the point of cops coming at my door due to concerned neighbors. I also Imagine this wont be a Paid upgrade, but who knows?

All PAID content, has to be multiplatform, and optimized for all platforms

This will sting PC users, bit it true. As a console player, i would not be mad if developers released on the Steam workshop, it would be great for the community. However official releases would have to be multiplatform. So stuff like the shaders, the seasoned foilage, SSAO will probably be unofficially released due to the limitation of current gen consoles (sad panda on the foilage).

Official Content will have to be tested

With the hectic release of Skyrim, they will want to work out bugs and whatnot, Also, that stuff was one week implementation, meaning.... Bugs, glitches, Balance, etc. So thi stuff, will not see the official channels until it worked on

I could go on but being at work, i do not want to type anymore. But if i offend anyone im sorry, it was not my intention thank you

While I agree some of the features should be free, I don't think an expansion with a whole new piece of land is going to be free.
