Skyrim has really ugly dresses

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 9:38 am

I just got the Chef's Tunic from Radient Raiment and I'm thrilled. Prettiest dress in the game hands down. And the oddest part is that it was made for that rare cook you might see instead of being a part of the general population's wardrobe... I wouldn't have known anything about it if I hadn't seen a pic somewhere.

I plan to enchant it with Speechcraft I think - haven't researched the options yet. I have to stop staring at my hot self first.

Now if only they made one in every color.

Okay, I am currently playing an ugly nord male, but I plan to make a female character next. And I am a bit spoiled by Oblivion Mods. I want to have several clothes and armor. I want to change it just as in Oblivion (with Hotkeys). In combat my heavy armor, in warmer regions (elsweyr - oh i miss it) a very airy heavy armor (like the Agea Karan) and in town fine clothes (I used some from vanilla game and many from mods).
This would be my favorite way.
Skyrim clothes are not as fine as I wish, but I have seen some promising mods with good armor and two mods with nice dresses. I think there is hope for all who are thinking similar like I do.

I really like most of the common folk dresses, but I wish there was more choice in formal and regal outfits. Still I think there are more nice clothes than I expected it to be, but again, needs more fancy clothing.

The texture/resolution work with the dresses is wonky. For instance, there's a blue one and green one that look ok, but then there are others that look all washed out, as if they were ported over from a previous generation game or something. Someone told me it was on purpose by the developers to cut down bog on performance or something, but I don't know if that's true.

And the few unique outfits there are aren't enough to make up for it. Note to Bethesda: When women say they would murder for the perfect wedding dress, we do not mean that literally. And (I would hope) most of wouldn't mean that in character, either. Give us a break here.

How hard would it have been to give you a simple toggle option on the mannequins for 'male' vs. 'female' outfits? :(

Ulric's outfit looks kinda neat when worn by women. Just throwing that out there for anyone desperate for something new...

I am definitely in agreement with the opinion that there needs to be pants for women as well as men. If my character spends most of her time crawling around the wilderness, pants are a must. That said, I finally got up to Solitude and visited the much vaunted Radiant Raiment. Yes, it is the biggest selection you're going to find in the clothing department. I bought a bunch of things to try on. Here is my opinion for whatever it's worth.

I'm keeping the mourning clothes and one of the robes from the college. The only set with pants looked filthy, so I sold them back. There was one blue and green dress that was okay. I was looking forward to this chef's outfit I'd heard so much about. And it, as well as another dress in blue/green and brown which is basically the same dress, would indeed be attractive - if Bethesda could just stop themselves from HANGING CLEANING RAGS OFF OF ALMOST EVERY DRESS. What gives with this? Is this a statement of what women do in Skyrim? I realize that some of these outfits are intended for barmaids and cleaning women. But we can assume they have the proper implements to perform their jobs without having them attached to anything our characters can wear. Who buys a dress with a rag hanging from it? It's weird.

This. They also come pre-torn and dirty also.

Honestly, I can live with the clothing they have just fine. But for some reason the mannequins only displaying the men's versions of outfits really, *really* bugs me. Seriously, how hard would it have been to give a display option? What good is displaying outfits and armor that mean something to your adventuring if they look *nothing* like they do on your character?

Then again a lot of the mannequins don't seem to work correctly as they are. Even after 1.4, the ones in Proudspire disappear, then reappear later with strange halo arches around them on the wall...

Green brocade doublet, light brown linens and gold trimmed shoes. Perfect for my vanilla OB character.

I've been scouting around looking for the awaited mods for clothes in Skyrim, and I really can't find anything on Nexus except armor mods (which are fine) and "let's dress up the ladies in skimpy, completely NOT time period or locality appropriate" items. Where are the decent clothing mods? I would think that at least somebody would have put out slightly modified versions of existing clothing without the rags, aprons, dirt, or holes that their game versions have. That should have been fairly easy, yes? (confessing I don't know much about this)

Anyone seen any stable clothing mods they would recommend?

Are there 2 versions of the Mourners' clothes?
On my assassin character (when I did a certain high-profile hit in Solitude) I picked up a set to wear to be ironic, They looked like a charcoal version of the college robes (and totally bad-ass).
I went to pick some up to enchant on my mage character and they showed as a black dress. WTF?

Also, if you're on PC, http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=6544

The problem I have with the upper class clothes for females is that they have no waist. Noble clothes look like a sack. There are technical difficulties articulating fabric when it is not close to the body (draqe, wake of moving fabric etc), so I understand a flared, floaty skirt is a headache to create, so I think if a skirt hangs close to the body it needs to be contrasted by a close waist.

Blades Armor is the only worn item in the game where I am happy with the bust/waist/hip proportion.

I think part of it has to do with culture of Cyrodiil vs Skyrim. The style of clothing fits the landscape and the culture.

Then why is it that two people who travel from Cyrodiil have the same outfits as those from Skyrim?

Not only are the clothes crap, the lack of body variety is pretty poor. And I don't mean that I just want the women with better bodies.

Like what if I wanted to make a fat guy? Or a scrawny guy like that wizard in the green robes from the D&D cartoon?

Finally! I found the perfect outfit for my female Imperial to wear when she's just traveling from town to town or wandering the streets NOT looking for trouble. She's more of a battle mage type character, so the lighter armors aren't something she usually wears. But I've been wanting pants (that aren't covered in dirt or holes) and I accidentally stumbled onto the slinkiest set of black and tan leather armor that pretty much looks like a tight set of pants, gloves, boots, vest, and even a very cool hood.

I took it off of the leader of the Dark Brotherhood when I killed her after she kidnapped my character. Then I went to their secret cave, and killed all the rest of them. You can pick up more dark brotherhood armor for magic types here, different hoods, and some decent looking Redguard clothing that also remains pants on a female character. I'm assuming that if you're running a stealth/assassin type character, and join the Dark Brotherhood, you can get these as well.

In any case, it definitely looks better than any other pants for women I've seen in the game.

I actually think the clothes in Skyrim look fantastic and much more colorful. Reminds me alot of the medieval look of Tes 2 Daggerfall. I find myself getting out of armor quite alot just to wear the clothes i find in dungeons or buy in stores.

It's okay if you like the catsuit look, but I would prefer tight, nice pants like you, but with a tunic that had a short skirt with splits or something to realistically handle combat. A one-piece all over tight look doesn't look like it would be comfortable, or integrate well when you are in a town.

I took it as more of a culture thing. Heart of the empire, you've got the wealthy people with their fancy togs; meanwhile, in the provinces, you're lucky if most of the people wandering around are wearing pants.

Ugly no. Dirty? Hell yes

With all that snow and mud around dresses are bound to become soiled and stained sooner or later

Everyone says that the clothing match the style of Skyrim, but what am I doing by used clothing then?

All the clothes in Skyrim when I buy them are patched and dirty. So what, someone else wore it before i did and I am wearing someone else's piece of clothing. It's gross. I don't want dirty clothing.

The armor isn't dirty looking. Why are the clothes dirty, muddy, and tattered?

Is there a non armor pants option for women? For my male I'd love a leather pant with leather or mail cuirass.

I think the Redguard clothes my still be pants on female characters, and the mage set of the DB gear stays as pants on women - although I don't like their flared, lounge pant look.

Surly, High Rock will feature the best dresses in Tamriel. If they go over that province a second time.

I actually love the robe design in Skyrim. I still wish the necromancer robes didn't look dirty or like they're rotting. Clean, mannimarco robes, please.
