Is Skyrim really apart of the Elder Scrolls Series?

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 10:58 am

Oblivion had awesome graphics back in 2006.

Pretty much every game, whether or not produced by Bethesda, has had the same awesome graphics when they were released, only to look dated within a couple years. That's one of the reasons I don't get all that excited about how games look when they come out any more. Maybe it's just me, but each new game is met with a "wow," only to be quickly followed by my getting used to it and then laughing at how dumb I was to think it's great when the next game, with even better graphics!, comes out!

Skyrim is one region. As a whole ES is made up of many regions that together make Tamriel. For more info on each region see:

Such doesn't apply to Skyrim though it is different but hasn't been any improvements that are remarkable but alas as my first post said can't be helped.. Now TES VI that should blow your mind let's just hope DX12 isn't about to release or we will have a repeat of this gen.

Every release is the same. Morrowind looked awesome when it came out (my Voodoo4 barely handled the water effects), Oblivion, and now Skyrim. We're always initially 'blown away' by the graphics, but after a couple weeks it wears off. Thankfully, visuals advancements are beginning to plateau, so the next Elder Scrolls release will look slightly better from Skyrim, apart from more detailing, but I wouldn't expect a 'blown away' response. Let's hope we're more impressed with the mechanics.

If DX11 tessellation is in game it will make it night and day difference have to remember Skyrim is DX9 overall with only optimization for DX11 nothing in the visual aspects are imrpoved since Oblivion.

Sorry to be a stickler, but I've been seeing this a lot on here. Apart means seperate. People seem to be trying to use it to mean "a part"

Its not a part of the same country because of the terrain? Well, Florida and Alaska are both in the United States, Oblivion is a medieval setting? Well, pretty much the same with Skyrim, even if it is 200 years later. The graphics? Do you want them using graphics from Oblivion (though I think you were talking about Morrowind, especially with the mushroom trees which are obviously Telvanni towers).

What nonsense is this? When OB came out, the graphics were (relatively) amazing! I disagree with the premises of your argument...

Are you being serious or is this tomfoolery?

Skyrim is set in a different part of the world than oblivion. Oblivion was set in Cyrodill. Skyrim is set in...well Skyrim. The giant mushrooms you saw were probably from the shivering isle expansion pack which is set in Sheogoraths (the Daedric Prince of Madness) realm so it should look different and screwy. If you look up morrowind you will see that its different as well. Of course the graphics are worse in oblivion, its an older game.

Skyrim also has giant mushrooms. You need to do some more quests and you will eventually find the place which has them. ;)

Is there anyone on the planet who does not understand that 3 to 5 years difference between release dates of games is a huge gulf in software, graphics, game play?

If one was 7, perhaps they wouldn't know, or lived in a village without electricity.

Well if your new to the series, how would you know what has been referenced in the past games

It sounds like you have seen Morrowind and not Oblivion, since some people lives in mushrooms in that game. It might also explain the 'horrible' graphics, since the difference in graphics between Oblivion and Skyrim is not that big (in my opinion).
But elder scrolls (the game universe the games takes place in) is a very thoroughly described world, where every part of the world, all races and all history was known before this game being made. So no pokemon here (whatever that means).
